Ryan, neither does Manly, well the ones Manly have worked their way there - PM sent.
I think what made it hard for you guys down is seperation from the top 6 after the first round. Top 6 got stronger due to playing tougher oposition week in week out. Botton 6 played against the rest.
You guys are doing some good things, depths doesnt happen overnight, keep at it.

As a matter of interest, which players did Manly not get back from the Brumbies this year as a result of Jake White deciding they had to play in the Kent Cup instead of the Shute Shield?

That's a stance I agree with, BTW. I think it's reasonable for players in a franchise to play in their local first grade comp. Firstly, it allows the coaching staff to keep an eye on how they're going and secondly it bolsters the strength of said comp. I wish more Force players were in 1st grade here in Perth.

There's obviously arguments both ways.
I'm happy either way as long as there's logic in the decision and some benefit to Australian rugby.
The ABC on Saturday referred to the fact that the Brumbies wouldn't allow Cam Crawford to play for Norths even though he's completed his commitments with Gungahlin and has signed next year with the Waratahs anyway.
That just sounds like bloody-mindedness unless somebody out there has an explanation ???
Interesting that the All Blacks released players to play for their clubs on the weekend.

I think the Brumbies knocked back Hooper too a while back.

Absolutely support the concept of keeping the stars in the local competitions to spread the gospel and grow the game locally locally, however the above examples of bastardry seem to represent the tinymindedness of Australian Rugby administrators that continues to be the condom on the prick of our growth.

Lovely turn of phrase Hugh!
You should be writing for Rugby News (if it survives?)!

Parramatta are about 1-2 years and a decent front row off being a regular top 6 side..........that harped fella looks like he should consider the move up front was definitely a weak link. Also a team like parra can't carry someone like seuteni who may give size but work rate is shit

A weak link IMO Parramatta need more depth in that area. However, the club is taking steps into the right direction rewarded with a great season. Well done.

Back to the rugby. I'm tipping a Souths v Uni GF.

Norths were brilliant last week with the victory over Eastwood. However they will almost have to turn in a faultless performance to beat Uni. They really looked a class above Manly in their previous encounter.

Souths v Manly will be a cracker. A very tight match which will be decided in the tight. Manly cruised to victory over Parramatta but really didn't get out of second gear. Souths will be hoping for the availability of centre Nick Cummins and a performance that could rattle the Marlins.

By decimated you mean beaten? That would be 1991.
I think you'll find that Parramatta played in the semi's in the split comp in either 2006 or 2007. Also I didn't mean beaten I meant decimated. I was referring to the 2blues colts team of 2006 who were 2nd after the regular season. I for one think that alot of the problems that Parramatta went through was due to their inability to keep the majority of this team together. Players to play 1st grade somewhere else have included -
The Ma'a brothers - since returned
David Fungelei - Uni
Joey Afualo - Penrith, Eastwood
Steve Mafi - West Harbour, Leicester Tigers
Jeremy Sua - Uni, Penrith, West Harbour
Sisa Waqa - Gordon, Easts, Melbourne
Shannon Procter - Penrith, West Harbour
Moefili Pinono - Penrith, West Harbour
Brian Sefenaia - Manly

Also leaving the club from grade were Sam Wykes, Tobias Gukibau, Scott Podmore, Luke Tabutoa, Junior To'o, Pelea Afu, David Alo.

I have no idea why these guys left but hopefully the 2blues will not be losing a large number of players like before.

By the sounds of clubs they went to I would suggest money being the key factor.

I want a norths vs souths final and I think if the rebels can get back cummins this might happen.
Also expect tuitara (is that the spelling?) the 12 for norths to rip Tom carter a new one........at least I hope so

It's been a bit remiss of me not to mention the performance from Norths on the weekend. I thought they were fantastic in that win against the Woodies. Things were looking a little ominous early in the first half and Eastwood looked to be in control, but in the second 40 Norths played great field position and murdered the Woodies at the breakdown. They actually out-enthused them in the loose I thought, which was a surprise to me. The strategy of committing numbers to the breakdown and blowing the Eastwood pigs off the ball was a master stroke.

Well played fellas.

It was great to see Norths regularly blitz the breakdown but it's been a tactic they've employed on every occasion I've seen them this season. Should actually be an interesting battle on the weekend as it's also something Uni does very well to. We may not see a great deal of flowing open Rugby but it should sure be physical.

If it turns into a dockyard brawl type forwards game I will be interested to see who will win. Uni will have a far bigger pack but I think the fitness, ticker and enthusiasm of norths will keep them in

Spot on. Frankly the board, coaching and administration of Parramatta in the 8 or so years leading up to 2010 was nothing short of disgraceful, particularly in the period immediately before and after the Leagues club pulled out. Nonetheless, that's in the past and we have a whole new committed and smart admin and coaching set up plus a very helpful major sponsor who provide some cash but a lot of back end support. Colts and lower grades will be a focus next year. A Colts co-ordinator has been appointed and he will bring with him a significant group of talented players, along with our 17's and others from the village clubs. The slow build continues...

I actually think Norths would fancy themselves in a brawl upfront. As a unit they are very good at winning the collision and winning turn over ball in the process. That said, it's Uni's bread and butter. Should be good and a completely different style than I expect to see in the Souths v Manly game.

Interesting to look at the player points from last weekend (keeping in mind that the maximum allowed is 100):
Norths = 65 + 30 (bench) = 95
Eastwood = 62 + 24 = 86
Parramatta = 29 + 9 = 38
Manly = 55 + 18 = 73
(Note: I've assumed they were all fresh reserves, but they may not have been)

Sydney Uni 2 weeks ago = 42 so they could still fit in a few more S15 players this week if available
I wonder if the Brumbies will release Cam Crawford to Norths?

That game will be a massive arm wrestle, both packs are very handy. It was in the last game I saw them play at North Sydney Oval too, where Norths only lost having a crack at the end trying to break the draw. They'll need to be super accurate this weekend though, as Uni are very experienced in this kind of game.
