It's interesting that Will Miller from the Oz Schools team last year is starting at 7 for North Sydney without playing in Colts. He had a blinder against NZ Schools but it seems to be a bit early to be playing in the Ones.

And he weighed in at just 86kgs last year.

PS: North Sydney are playing in the TV game on Saturday; so have a look at him.

He could be serviceable if he was floating around 95kgs, and he might be there presuming he didn't have a massive weights background prior to finishing school.

When you do weights seriously for the first time you stack on a ton of good weight in months 3 and 4.

Gordon 12 Rats 11

It's going to be a dance of the desperates with these two teams this year. The players were willing enough but the skill level was low.

The Gordon forwards as a group were quicker to the breakdown and were more street wise. The Rats would have liked to have had some big bopper props like Ralulu and Gukibau as the Highlanders had, but they could have been more urgent in the contact area. In that parallel universe they wouldn't have minded having Gerrard, Pyle, Sheehan, McCabe and Fardy back for the afternoon either.

Warringah had the winning of the game in the second half after Gordon went ahead 12-3 just after oranges with a try from a charge down kick. The Rats held Gordon scoreless for the rest of the game but they weren't good enough to take their opportunities and besides: the Highlanders defended in their half with some starch and a lot of street smart nous.

It was interesting to watch Ex Oz Sevens player Hamish Angus playing flyhalf for the Rats. He will be a fine 1st Grade 10 if he learns to run more to stop the drift; however he missed a couple of easy penalties in the 4th quarter which could have had the winning of the game. Mind you, Burnett of Gordon missed a couple earlier.

19 y.o. scrummie Tim Donlan was the Rats best player and it won't be long before his name is getting on a few clipboards. He'll be in Canberra with the Oz U/20 training squad next week. Other guys are favoured for the 9 jersey in the final Oz squad and if they are better than Donlan, the Oz U/20 team will be well served. Old head, young shoulders.

The Rats won 2nd Grade 40-8 and 3rd Grade also, but it would have been of cold comfort to the Rats club.

An excellent debut for a kid going straight from schoolboy rugby into first grade against the reigning premiers. He was not out of place at all and did some "special" things. Look forward to him bulking up... he looks a similar height to Pocock..maybe a touch taller...will be outstanding if he can hit the 100kg mark and maintain his speed and agility.

His main ability was to carry on tackles long after the ball had been passed. Ran out of puff and couldn't tackle when it counted. But hey, he was at school last year. Good effort.

Very dissapointing result for Parramatta.

Nice day out at Warriewood for the Gordon/Warringah match always nice to watch footy there. Nice and close to the action with reasonable crowds.

Is there anyway to watch the replay of the Norths v Eastwood game?

Northa should be a handful this year- Eastwood look the goods and they do have a couple of injured Tahs- turner and Fitzpatrick who will bolster depth if they return towards the end of the season.
Yay rugby
