Give me an example of a Shore, Joeys, Scotts or View boy who is currently attending that school and is what we would consider an import (solely at the school for his rugby skill)

Scots boy - Jim Stewart. Signed up for an extra year with Pathways next year as well. That will be approx $75k the school has spent on one player alone. Better hope he wins a few games for them this year and next.... He spent most of last season injured!

How do you define the way "it's meant to be done?"

I think Tigersfan is saying that Newington do it as if it were allowed and they think that no one will notice.

Sad thing is that everyone notices yet none of the GPS heads have got enough balls to do anything about it.

Shore- I am unknown of at this point of time, hence why i said probably one of the least as i dont know if they do it
View- Also, unaware if they do it, but they always have a strong rugby 1's and 2's. Dont know
Joeys- Nic Penisi (apprently he is on a maths scolarship?? go figure), Jono Hardy???
Scots- Unknown of imports at this point in time but, Clinton Sills and Jacob Woodhouse were previous imports, one is now playing junior Tahs, and one is playing AUssie sevens and Brumbie Runners

I think Jim Stewart is definatley on a scolarship, but apprently he knows the 1st's second rower BJ Edwards and he talked Stewart in to going to scots, However he is still on a Scholarship

Not just this year mate..
If you recall 3 years ago, Kings won the GPS preimership, almost 50% of that team were brought in from the U16 State championship winning side of Eastwood.
Newington, Islander after Islander after islander are turing up at this school, plus people like, Tepai, David morris (1st XV Flanker) Ellis Abrhams, Joey Lussick, Reggie.
Joeys, Jono Hardy (NSW COuntry) Nick Penisi( NSW Team Captain)
Scots- Jim Stewart, Clinton Sills, plus the many to come
Dont try and deny that Joeys dont do it either "Dermo" it is a waste of time

Not going to deny Newington or Kings dont do it as they are by far the worst offenders. But my point is with the exception of a few here and there the other schools dont do it, Nick Pennisi is on an academic scholarship and he is a genuinely good student so he is not exactly an import, as he is not at the school just because of his rugby ability. Also Jono Hardy is not on a scholarship.

nic pennisi's maths is off the chart from what i hear and has had numerous academic awards. tigersfan5 needs to spend more with the 14C's at halftime

Dear TigersFan5

Tone down the racism !!

What makes you think "islander after islander" are on scholarship ?

Or do you think they should just ban all black people from GPS schools ?

Sorry if it sounded like that, i definatley didn't mean it to come across like that, i tried to use correct terms there. Banning black people?? thats a bit far and extreme dont you think, i was just trying to state that, there are plenty of Tongan and Samoan boys that are on scolarship at newington and its increasing

I think you have gone a bit far their blindside. Sure confront Tigersfan because he is off the mark, but I certainly didn't pick up any racism in his post.

Accuse him of not having his facts straight, but now you are entering into very dangerous territory.

Fair enough. There are lots of Pacific Islanders at Newington and most them don't get any publicity - only the good footy players. David Vea was the smartest kid at Tupou College in Tonga and got a scholarship off that. Four of the Tongan kids at New are from Tonga on genuine academic scholarships. Quite a few others are the children of ministers of the Wesleyan Church which is affiliated with the Uniting Church and receive fee discounts (as do the sons of all clergy).

Very convenient... and just a coincidence that they play rugby. ;-) How do you explain all of the other good sportsmen that New seem to have attracted? Particularly in basketball... No Tongan Church thing to hide behind there - just plain out in the open scholarships. Face it Blindside - Newingtons level of importing atm is taking the #iss!

There is also a thing called "success" and it attracts talent to the school. Rex Nottage has run the best school basketball program in the land for the last decade and the success he has had attracts talented boys to the school. A bit like a talented rugby player joining Sydney Uni after school rather than Penrith. The same with Brian Dene and his soccer program. They come from all over Australia (and even from overseas) to play in Brian's program.

And yes - some of the boys are on scholarship - because scholarships go to boys with talent. And those boys are expected to experience the full range of academic and co-curricular offerings that Newington has to offer. I can assure you from first hand experience that a number of boys have been "offered" to Newington and been rejected (and some of them are very well known rugby names) - because it's not just about the sport - it's about the quality and attitude of the boy and his family. Sporting ability alone does not do it and will never do it.

Blindsided, how do you explain the amount of a scholars in your swimming team - absolutely chocker block full - open secret in the very small Sydney swimming community. What I found amusing/ironic/satisfying was when you lost the swimming in 2010 to a bunch of Shore rowers and a lad not considered good enough for a New "All Rounder" scholarship. Then we can start on your tennis team......

At least someone associated with Newington finally admits that they are doing it!! GPS byelaws veery clearly state that it is not allowed - so how do NEw and Kings and Scots so brazenly get away it?!
