Ja know Burton quite well. Schooled at Klein Nederburg (Chester Williams also a nederburger) and going through Bolands ranks as a youngster. I know he is one of Snor's favourate sons and he'll cant wait to get Burton through the ranks.

Bolded some known players. De Wet & Gaffie & mostly some up and coming youngsters and players with S14 experiense.

Just to help out in which franchise these provinces fall Pumas = Bulls and Witbank their home ground. Last year only SWD (Goerge South Cape) made the semis but this year EP have grow a bit making the semis after Solomons & Kempsten took control of the coaching and a few imports like De Wet. Griffons is part of the Cheetahs and they use theGriffins to keep their contracted players not used in match shape. The Griffons home ground is the nice circle road place called Welkom. Interesting to see Kennede Simba still running around and Herscholl Johnson , the younger brother of Ashley, the Cheetah nr 8 and also going through Paarl Gyms rugby roots. Herschell was in the same class as my oldest son.

This semis is very important for this teams and the two going through to the final will play for CC Premier promotion against Boland and the Leopards for next years CC.

Pretty disappointing weekend for myself but still at least a home semi.

Sharks vs Griquas:
The Sharks got what the want in the end and bagged their 5 point win to end top of the log. Pretty sure they were hoping for Griquas to end within 7 to get them at home in the semis but the brave Biltong Eaters spilled a few oppertunities to achieve their wanted 2 logpoints to get in the semis. Hats off to Daie Theron and Griquas to just missed out on semi and next season they'll have to start from zip. Unfortanetly small unions like Boland, Leopards & Griquas is only used by the players as a springboard to get to the top provinces and they will lose their bulk of players to the bigger ones. The Brutes , Sharks and Lions already poached a few of their players. Good thing for Griquas is that Rassie Erasmus have a few very talented young extra now U21 talents and have a agreement put in place with Theron to let them on loan to them and if they prove their worth for Griquas he can get them back for WP. Myself think that is the way the bigger unions should do things and this may help Theron to get best value for money in his player budget.

Lions vs WP
What a game and what a turn around. WP score two quick tries and look well on their way to their much need 5 points. Then just before half time the Lions start fighting back with a well work try. In the end the clock run out for WP and ended meters from the Lion tryline. Putting the disappointment for WP aside , hats off to a well deserve victory for the Lions and some outstanding defense from them. They sure look totally diffirent with their defense compare to what kak they dish up in the S14 and surely Jake White play a part in this. They end their season on a high and look positive to the S14. Their S14 coach will be announced today.

The Brutes and Cheetahs got runaway victories over Boland & Leopards , so we end up with a semi on Newlands between WP & Brutes and in the Tenk between Cheetahs A in Sharkls clothing vs Cheetahs B.

On Paper WP have NO change against the Brutes but looking at the scores these two had in their previous matches this year and the Newlands factor may help WP this time around. WP have absolute northing going in this match and they'll have Schalk back and everything to play for.

Sharks always find the Cheetahs difficult to down for some other reason. The Cheetahs at the moment in rich form and it will be a big mistake if you underestimate those Tin Ears.

On paper it should be a Sharks vs Bulls final yet again in the Tenk but just maybe we'll get a surprise this year.

Well done the Sharkies!
A fun game to watch, but the defences sometimes seemed optional.... :nta:
Still, the Sharks did all that was required of them, and put the pressure on WP to bag a 5-pointer in order to remain top of the log.

That Griquas scrummie - Sarel Potgieter? - looks like he has a good future in the game.

Well played to the Lions. I expected them to roll over meekly once they were out of the running for the semis - and especially after the great start WP had. But credit to them for probably their gutsiest performance of the year.

So, two pretty tough semis.
The Bulls look like they have all the momentum, but they are playing a stung Province team who will be in front of their faithful at Newlands.
And the Sharks get to host their bogey team, the Cheetahs in Durban at the Shark Tank.

Nothing cut and dried in either semi.
Should make for a great weekend's rugby.

Qouted that since he played against the BIL for the Royals. He played that day the Scottish scrummie, Blair?, out of the tour and havent look back. If I can blame WP loss on any player it will be Pie Eater. Thought it was a big mistake from the WP wisemen to pick him in front of Duvenhage and looking forward to Dewaldts match to the King FdP on the weekend. If the youngster come through this test with dignity I think he is weel on his way to become a Bok. Also think the Griwua fullback is one hellofa exciting player, he can play 10 & 9 also and pretty well.

Why do people persist with Januarie?

If Snor absolutely has to pick a player of color at 9 then there can be no looking past Heinie Adams.

Agree 100%, he can pick Tewis de Bruyn from the Cheetahs too, pretty handy and can slot in 10 to. Heres hoping he have a big match against the Sharks on the weekend.

Myself started throw things at the TV once Januarie start to organise the forwards in the backs and WP lose the ruck ball. Its so obvious that Duvenhage is in a different league to Pie Eaters play it aint even funny. His passing, kicking game is second to none game after game after game.

Teams gear up for Absa Under-21 semi-finals

The Vodacom Western Province and the Vodacom Blue Bulls’ Under-21 teams are hoping to use their respective home grounds to their advantage in their semi-finals fixtures this Saturday.

WP are at Newlands and will host the Sharks at 14h20 in the curtain raiser match ahead of the Absa Currie Cup semi-final clash between Province and the Bulls.

In Pretoria, the Free State Under-21s play the Vodacom Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld at 15h00.

“We’ve had a good season thus far and the guys are really looking forward to the match on Saturday against the Sharks,” said WP Under-21 coach Jerome Paarwater.

“However we’ve achieved nothing yet. It’s great to end the season in second position on the log, but now we have to push on and hopefully defeat the Sharks at Newlands. The Sharks are not going to be an easy team to beat, but if the guys stick to our structures and play to their potential, we should stand a good chance to make the final at the end of the month.”

The Vodacom Western Province Under-21s have only conceded three defeats in the competition this season and will be hoping to rebound from their last performance after going down 36-24 to the Lions in Johannesburg last Saturday.

The Vodacom Blue Bulls, who ended the season in pole position on the Absa Under-21 A log, will be brimming with confidence following their comprehensive 65-21 victory over the Platinum Leopards last Friday.

The host should be at full strength for their clash against Free State following confirmation that players such as JC Roos (fractured cheekbone), Gerrit-Jan van Velze (fractured hand) and Stephan Dippenaar (fractured hand) have all recovered from their respective injuries.

“Semi-final matches could go either way, so we’re taking nothing for granted,” said Vodacom Blue Bulls Under-21 coach Nico Serfontein.

“We cannot simply pitch and expect to get the result on the day. We’ll have to do the basics well and stick to what has worked for us this season. Our opponents to their credit also boast some fine talent, so we’ll have to be up for the challenge.”

The Vodacom Western Province and Vodacom Blue Bulls will also play hosts to the two Absa Under-19 Championship semi-final matches.

Province play the Free State Under-19s at Newlands on Saturday in a curtain raiser match in preparation of the Under-21 semi-final at Newlands on Saturday (12h10). At Loftus Versfeld, the Vodacom Blue Bulls Under-19s host the Lions in the other semi-final at 13h00

Blue must I book our tickets for saturday? A WP vs Bull finals like in the good old days?

As much as I would love to , cant see WP get past the Bulls and was hoping we would meet them in the finals. The ticket buyers crashed WP computor system yesterday and pretty sure it will be a sold out today.

Look like Schalk and Pie Eater will play from the bench and Bekker the only current Bok starting. Cant see our young lot get past the likes of Habana, Meisiekind, M Steyn, FdP, Spies, Bakkies & Matfield. Just hoping they give it the best shot they got. The Youth teams U19s & U21s) will get past the semis with ease.

Well, Blair should never have been on the Lions trip at all. He's shite, and was comprehensively outplayed by Stringer for Scotland. A media promotion who shouldn't have gone.

But Potgieter has looked good whenever I've seen him.

All the CC semis show a bit where our power lies these days with structure in mind. Nick Mallet and Peet Kleynhans started the WP & Cheetahs academies two and three years ago and now it start to show for WP & Cheetahs. They together with the Bulls have all three teams (U19,U21 & seniors) playing in the semis, the Sharks U21 and Lions U19s making the semis.

Assistant Baggage Master JJ Fredericks
Congratulations to JJ Fredericks on his promotion into management. I'm sure those many years hard graft as a Baggage Technician have been worth it. He's a talented up and coming baggage man, one to watch for the future.

It's important to note that he's made it on merit, and while some will no doubt claim this to be a quota appointment I have it on good authority that when it comes to taking green bags from a carosel and putting them on a trolley he is without peer.

Pieter DeVilliers said last month that the Boks were still improving, and with the appointment of Fredericks I believe they could have reached the pinnacle of rugby.

Looking at the WP side I am a bit surprise to see Bosch in 12 (must be to give du Jongh his best position in 13 and Frikkie on the wing. Pretty glad to see Duvenhage in 9 and Schalk not starting.

Well I am sure Rassie, Coetzee & Proudfoot will have something working out for the Brute lot, Rassie have always done pretty good motivating the Cheetah lot to beat the Brutes and in this semi we have absolutely nothing to lose. The Brutes are the overwelm favourates and I would have preferred to we could have played them in the finals. Nothing beats a NTvl vs WP final and if I can pick one team I dont mind losing its the Brute lot, also the team I love my team beating the most. I am a SA Rugby supporter first and foremost and dont say this because I dont like the others, its just that age old rivalry between the two teams and thats why I always pick them as my second team. Its a bit like Bok vs Black or Gim vs Boishaai.

Nevermind I am still stoke all three WP teams made the semis , thats the fruit Nick Mallets Academy start to bring and pretty sure the same thing for the Cheetahs. Brutes have been the measure stick but we slowly clawing our way back to the top.
