Cooper had two handling errors and one pass to no-one. He didn't do a lot of the handling errors people here have attributed to him. Those were the three turnovers in ESPN's stats.

Beale played well, but then those criticising Cooper and praising Beale I don't think watched the whole game or have looked at all the stats. Beale played well, but had errors just like Cooper's. Beale's 2 tackles for 3 misses are not a good look, along with 2 penalties and a turnover. Cooper had 2 tackles for no misses, 1 penalty and 3 turnovers. If you take out the goal kicking and yellow, Cooper had a better game than Beale I thought. Problem is, there was a yellow card and his goal kicking.

That's probably about it. If Cooper kicked 9 or 10 out of 11 (considering that most of the kicks were difficult) and didn't get yellow carded there'd be a fair case for him to start against England.

Agree with BH81, but the biggest factor against QC (Quade Cooper) apart from the obvious in this game as stated is the fact that this was his third yellow card in three tests, and all of them were deserved. I wouldn't be surprised if he has played his last game in RWC15. If it had been Simmons or Skelton getting three yellows in three games there be little argument to select either again.

3 in 3 games is a worry. But I can't believe you think that today's was deserved. I thought it was a ridiculously harsh call. If that was a yellow card, every tackle that makes contact above the shoulder should be.

As a case in point, there has been no suggestion that I have seen that the later high tackle (be Beale from memory) deserved a yellow card. Nor should there by - but it was easily a worse tackle IMO.

That said, Cooper needs to adjust his technique to reduce the risk of contact with the head.

I suspect Quades kicking may not have been as bad as we all think, statistically.

Due to the short in-goals the guys had no opportunity to run it around and as a consequence an abnormal amount of his attempts were from out wide.

I'd be interested to see what the average success rates from those positions would have been by all kickers.

Not suggesting he didn't have a bad night, he definitely did, maybe just not as disastrous as it seemed.

I think it is very important , in a tournament like this with its demanding nature on players as the slope gets steeper towards the finals, especially from now on for the Wallabies, that the fly-half position is shared by the two specialist 5/8ths.
Giteau has said he doesn't regard himself as a true 5/8, in that his preferred position is at 12, and To'omua is also better at 12, with his game too one dimensional at flyhalf at this level.
In these remaining games, the alternative flyhalf between Foley & QC (Quade Cooper) should be on the bench, getting at least 20 minutes of play in each game, in order to stay in touch.
This will also give both fly-halves some time off from possibly 5 high level games on a weekly basis, which is just too exhausting to maintain maximum exertion.
As well, it allows the coaching staff the opportunity to determine which 5/8 offers the most towards victory in the big games.
If Foley becomes the lynch pin 5/8 (or vice versa with QC (Quade Cooper)), and suffers a tournament ending injury in say a semi-final where nobody else has played in that position since the Uruquay or England game, then the team is heading into a very difficult situation where a loss is instant death.
I truly believe that Cheika needs to have both fly-halves & half-backs (same logic) on the bench for all remaining games (hopefully 5), even with a 6/2 forward/backs ratio.

It doesn't really matter though. He made the tackle and got yellow carded.

I agree that he didn't deserve a yellow card but he got one. His tackling technique risks it regularly because he swings his arm around the chest of the ball carrier and there is a risk he hits too high or bounces up off the ball.

Unless there is an injury to Foley, Cooper is going to head overseas 2 games short of the magic 60 number.

Of course it matters.

If that is the new standard for a yellow card we should see at least 5 per game.

It's clearly not the new standard for yellow cards. That tackle where there is a clip on the neck/chin of the ball carrier has been consistently penalised in the RWC but hasn't been yellow carded.

I said it doesn't matter because the yellow card happened and impacted Cooper's performance and the match. He's had three yellow cards this year and you couldn't enter a match now with the opinion that he isn't a risk of making a high tackle and spending 10 minutes in the bin.

In the one sense you're right - it has happened and there is no taking it back. His tackling style contributed.

And I don't actually think it affects his selection chances. But only because Foley was unlikely to get dropped, and, if there was a slim chance it was probably killed off with his kicking performance regardless of the yellow card.

However, the yellow card has been a significant talking point today - both in the media and social media. Much of the talk has portrayed Cooper negatively. I find that disappointing when IMO it was a very poor decision by the ref.

And, for the record, I would feel the same if it happened to Bernard Foley, Bismark du Plessis or Bakkies Botha.

It's a harsh reality I guess.

If Kepu and Holmes get dished up by Marler scrummaging illegally and it costs us the game they're still going to cop it from the media.

Poite would cop it in certain circles too (mostly Australian ones) but that won't really reduce the criticism of the players at fault (perceived or otherwise).

Look, just drop Marler on his stupid fucking haircut a couple of times - out of goal kicking range - and then next time he tries it, turn right shoulder out, and run over the prick. A few does of 21mm studs to the testes will shut his stupid, cheating shit out of the game.

Ultimately, we can't be passive over our own ball and worry about striking. We have to drive them back, get a heel, and let the backs carve up.

Personally i think Holmes should be starting against the Borler, anyone who saw the Fiji game saw that he can attack a boring in LHP and put him into his place.

Holmes being rested all Uruguay game indicates that Cheika/Ledesma also think so.

Any aditional pracgtise Quade does with his goal kicking should aim to get the ball traveling straight at the goal posts. There will be no point to practise if it is just practising wrong technique.

Well said Ash, Cooper had a great game if you take out the yellow and goal-kicking.

The yellow was soft and could easily be discarded IF he hadn't have had 2 yellows in the 2 previous games. Soft or not 3 yellows in 3 games is a cause of concern.

Bloody Cooper, so close yet so far.
