To me that’s even more reason. You’ve brought in 6 new players who haven’t played regularly with the others and who weren’t available for a good portion of the pre-season. Then you lose guys like

I’m not even paying attention to the rest of your post because in no world does adding 6 Wallabies make their situation even worse to last year.

People were having a dig at the Tahs fans last week for being pessimistic of the Tahs performances. I would like to think most Tahs fans knew we had a game like this coming. Its literally one game though, and as others have pointed out, the reds were in the same position last week. Can we all just take a breath? Its all going to be ok. Theres a lot of shit slinging at the Tahs which I think is a bit rough... it was a pretty bad performance, but every team has them. Its the game the Tahs needed to bring them back to ground level.

The idea that 6 wallabies showing up from the rebels means we should be winning every game is just not true. When those 6 wallabies were at the rebel, the rebels wernt top of the table. Sure on paper the Tahs probably have the strongest team in Aus, but its a team sport and we all know it takes a bit of time for things to gel, esspecially with new coaches and systems. Its the first loss of the season, already a more successful season than last year.

Can we wait till the Tahs have lost 3 in a row or something before we start writing them off completely.

I agree Tupou had a good start to the game, without looking at stats, he seemed to take more carries than the last 3 games, was pretty solid in defence and did his job at scrum time. Shame about the maul defence tho.

Was good to see Kellaway step up! Certainly had some hunger in him, hes going to have to work hard to get a gig with the Wallabies this year.

Speaking of fullbacks Wright is just killing it with ball in hand, I dont care if people are going to call him a ball hog, he is on fire atm.

I am overly worked up about the tahs and coaching thing because I feel like Aussie rugby in general loves making excuses instead of calling out crap.

Similar in the force v saders chat with some excuses about the force team being weaker with injury. Every team in sport isn’t 100% fit. NZ teams have rolled out B squads for years and still pumped us because our teams lack depth due to mediocre coaching and lack of fundamentals.

We fold our 5th team and literally gift our franchises our best players and still offer excuses. McKellar has been handed a golden ticket and the Tahs should be performing and looking better than they did last night. Top tier players lack of effort around the park falls onto the coach and needing to lift standards, which is what was lacking at the Rebels and we all crucified their culture.

Its just not true and i made this point ad nauseum in the darkest days of a certain thread. Taking average players from one shit team and adding them to another shit team does not suddenly make a good one.

Id trade all of them for LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) and Canham - for what its worth.

Well played, Reds, you were too good. Strangely enough, although I didn't watch the Tahs live last night I thought they played better than they did last week. Which speaks volumes for the quality of the Reds play. The Reds #4 to #8 rolled over our lot while their #10 and #12 controlled things beautifully. I've been lambasting various Tahs coaches and management for years (well, since Gibson's days) for neglecting the importance of grunt in the second row; last night would've been the best example of this neglect. Brave and all as he is Sinclair's about 5cm too short and 5kg too light for a top level lock. But that didn't stop him from being one of the Tahs best last night.

Once again, well played, Reds.

Has anyone said that?

I don’t think any of the discussion is helped by incorrectly stating what other views are being expressed.

If the upper tier is closed and there are empty seats on the lower sections, how do they get to 20,000? They count those that bought tickets but didn’t come?
On the TV I thought I saw at least one middle tier section that had a fair few people in it. Maybe just the sponsors/Corporate boxes but seemed a decent number of people there.

Ah well. Reds need more praise than the Tah bashing now.

Interplay of passing was great and just chews meters up field while gassing the defence having to chase. Couldn’t be more impressed by Canham. Not sure he’ll get a call up for the Wallabies v the Lions but he sure as hell should post Lions northern tour.

Canham is a great example. One of the less heralded players from the Rebels, now one of the Reds’ best. Whereas his much more vaunted rebels mates at the Tahs look inept.

Sheesh some people have been frothing for a slip up from the tahs to allow them to rip into McKellar. Glad it happened this week so theyve been able to get stuff off their chests. Potentially see some reasonable takes resuming next week?

From memory there was a lot of ill feeling from his home state when he was famously/bizzarely able to bully Rennie into selecting too many Brumbies players.

Because the lower tier holds a higher proportion of the crowd capacity?

To be fair, this was his first really good performance for the Reds; his first couple of performances, including his UK matches, were pretty average. He still has critical parts of his game in tight that need to be improved
