The host nation retains revenue from tests that fall within the international windows (on the assumption that the tours will be reciprocated?).

This isn't a test, so I assume Wales would request and receive an appearance fee, to at least cover their expenses and match fees - and probably more.

As others have said, it's probably covered by Government tourism funding for this game

Interesting to see Channel 9 are broadcasting this game on Friday night, but they’re doing it on delay on the primary channel following the NRL, rather then live on another channel like Gem

As someone who lived in Sydney through COVID, I think Brisbane fans ought to remember how many test matches Brisbane and Queensland as a whole received through that period. In contrast, Sydney(Eastern Suburbs of Sydney at least) was banished from the test calendar for many reasons, including the SFS rebuild and COVID lockdowns, which meant there were very slim pickings for a few years in test matches to attend.

I think it was established that they had to have this week's game east at Georgia's request due to their travel schedule, and that they did try and have it elsewhere e.g. Newcastle, Gold Coast etc but there were no other grounds available

It includes the additional ones Sydney has this year, if you exclude this years tests the gap was even more significant

It just seems like an oversaturation of games for one city, particularly when the games aren't close to being sellouts. Not suggesting BNE should've gotten a second test either, for what it's worth.

Fans aside, RA was contractually obliged to make up for those COVID years. The repercussions are still felt today, and I suspect they've only just this year cleared the backlog that was created.

QLD hosted 10 test matches in 3 months in 2021; 6 of those featured the Wallabies playing; many of these Wallabies games were otherwise contractually committed to be hosted in other cities. Rather than the Vic/NSW/SA State Govt tearing up those RA contracts up and losing significant $$ these games were shifted into subsequent years(2022/2023) which is why QLD missed out.
