Any opinion on the centre pairing? Do we know if Tim Ryan has ever played 13 (pretty key defensively...)?
Somewhat pleased to see Gibbon, Canham, Anderson all on the bench.

Hah, so I'm guessing Mason has been picked up by the Reds from the Rebels?
Not necessarily yet, he's off contract so he's technically just a club player back in QLD now. I imagine they're looking at him for a contract though, with Creighton and Grealy rumored to be gone I guess there is a bit of space for him as a depth option.

Dre Pakeho is a good prospect, though they might have picked Goldsborough first if he wasn't off with the under 20s. Ryan has a little bit of time at 13, pretty sure he played there when he came off the bench against the Chiefs this year. Definitely a step up for him though.

I haven't seen much of Dre Pakeho, but I have seen he tackles hard. Didnt come across as someone who generated a lot of attacking play but a pretty good defensive foil.

I guess a bit of Hunter Paisami style about him.

That would have to be close to best attended since the '21 final wouldn't it?
But our counterparts running the kiwi side of Super Rugby keep telling us we need to get better at rugby if we want people to turn up.

On paper the Reds should get smoked, but this demonstrates people will come out if it's enticing to do so.

This is two days after the biggest NRL game of the year is played at the same venue as well.

I still remember Wales getting beaten by the Chiefs B-Team 40-7 in 2016. And this Wales team is much worse than that one

Somewhat surprising as I've heard they're actively making a bit of a push for attendance via clubs administrator, schools, ref association, etc. I had assumed this meant numbers were less than they'd hoped, but they could just be trying to get a big number on the board.
Given there's state and local government support for Wales coming out I imagine they're keen to really for solid crowd numbers and a visible success to help get more of these games backed in the future.

Absolutely - it wouldn't surprise me if they had set 30k as the goal.

Presumably they are paying Wales too?

So they will need to make a fair bit back to earn any revenue from it
I'm guessing there will have been some sort of appearance fee, but I think that's where the QLD tourism and City Council contributions come into it.

I'm not sure it would've been too hefty a fee either, Wales under Gatland have played these games before and I can't imagine the chiefs stumped up a huge amount back in 2017. Because it's within the international window I think they might be restricted from charging appearance fees in playing other test sides too, so they're not missing out on much there.
