Pollard is signed through 2023, the Fainga'a and Lonergan are off contract.

The alternative might be to just focus on the younger options and aim to get BPA back after the world cup, but that might be too big a gamble without a standout young hooker coming through.
have a look at the 19 year old kid at UQ. Been in the reds academy pathway for a while so knows the expectations of being a queenslander.

Been informed he is 193 cm and 115 kgs (old money 6'3 or 4 and 250 lbs). Breaks the mould of a traditional hooker. Played first Prem grade as a reserve first year out of school and been on a development program and worked with Stephen Moore last year.

He's 19, eh? He'll be a big boy when he grows up!

Do you have a name for the hype?

Would of thought Joshua Mongard would of been on the Reds radar, but he's left Norths for the Western Force Academy. Still had 2 years of colts rugby.

Tierney's an absolute mountain of a kid and he looks to have heaps of potential. From what I've seen I'm not sure he'll be quite ready for super rugby next year but he's definitely someone we want to hold onto. I'd be uncomfortable if he was 3rd string or higher, but he'd probably work as a 4th string option who gets a taste or two through the season.

It is amazing the difference a month makes though, I'm a hell of a lot more comfortable with where Nasser is at and how he's developing then I was at the start of the season. As long as we don't lose more than 1 hooker from the current squad I'm not sure we'll need to bring anyone in from outside QLD. That is a fairly large if with none of them signed right now though.

Mafi posted himself back in the Reds gym last week. I'd say he's still a while off playing again though, maybe not even returning this season?

Will be interesting to see what he does, I'm aware there was Japan deal being tabled, something he was keep to explore. Unsure whether the value of that changed though with his new injury. He's in a similar position to ASY (Angus Scott-Young) in terms of appeal, hasn't yet been capped by the Wallabies but is clearly an established Super Rugby player which increases his value in certain competitions.

Gets a little difficult to "hook" the ball at that height.
Seems to get it done alright.
Throws a straight line out, which in this day and age is a bonus.

Watched him v GPS on the week end where he made plenty of good impact along with getting his job done.

I would imagine height would assist with throwing the line out, the ball can go on a flatter trajectory rather than trying to float it over people contesting the line out

I don't think his height is really an issue, either has an advantage or disadvantage.

Steve Moore is a freckle shy of 6ft2 and no one really thought he was strangely tall for a hooker.

We aren't talking about Kareem Abdul Jabar here, he's just a tall strong lad.

Moore's booked height is closer to 6'1, so we're looking at about 3" difference. Not huge, but not nothing, although I guess it's really the torso/leg proportions that make a difference. Nothing Cameron Lillicrap can't sort out.

Regardless, good to see a bit of a break from the mould and promising hooker stocks coming through.

what are Angus Bell stats as a loose head ? not that the kid is at that level yet but if there are props at 6'2' / 6'3" who knows what can be done.

The Argentineans have always liked a taller hooker and their scrums are well renown.

A 193 cm hooker beside a 181 cm prop, in Tupou, could cause issues in the scrum. You could create a weakness between hooker and tighthead or depower the scrum by having the hookers feet too far under him. Happy to be proved wrong by the clever people on this forum.

Interesting for Kerevi - I said it a while ago but I don’t think his Suntory renewal will be as lucrative as the initial contract. They signed him thinking he was ineligible for Wallaby contention and fully focussed on their club. Now he’s pretty much first picked international based player under the new rules RA have set.

Maybe the number to lure him back to Australia isn’t as far from the number Suntory are putting up.

Look - I love Stewart & Paisami, but can we start a movement to get Samu home?
Yeah, I’m not sure the Reds will be his preferred signing. I hope I’m wrong. Having Kerevi back would be primo.
Do you think we could work on QC (Quade Cooper) too. That’s a bigger task.
