Well, you’re wrong.
Although I reckon Rodda will be skip.
T'eo 12, Jordy 13, JOC (James O'Connor) on a Wing I reckon.
I reckon it’s Tongan Thor’s team now.
Wonder if he’d make a good captain material. Literally leading from the front. He wins all his scrum battles and is a good identity setter in terms of the physical that’s needed.
Richie McGaw spent a lifetime dodging 50/50 yellow card infringements simply because the referee afforded him the luxury that he was the team captain.
Could making Taniela Topou the reds captain be a silver lining similar to how Richie was treated?

Outside the box thought.
What about Ben Te’o on a 1 year deal with a 1 year option?
He’s left Worcester, has been linked to a team in every comp including Super Rugby, most recently the Sunwolves on a dual deal with a top league side. If them, then why not us on the same arrangement? Not sure what the current RA rules around marquee players are but;
Pros
- he’s spent many years in Brisbane, is passionate about QLD
- The foundations in QLD are pretty strong sure and there is a great crop of youngsters coming through BUT they are 2-3 years away from being dominant Super players and the Reds simply must get more wins next year for the financial viability of the game. Kerevi’s departure is an absolute hammer blow to that ambition. Te’o is the only available player who could replace some of Samu’s skill set, leadership and crowd drawing abilities.
- he has history with the coaching staff
Cons;
- he is old (but so is Nonu)
- he isn’t wallaby eligible and would block the pathway of a younger Australian player (but to be honest I don’t see a 12 of that type ready to come in from club land or another Super side and it would only be for a year).
It would seem a bit of a departure from the Reds current philosophy but remember they signed Jono Lance for a year and played him in front of Stewart (also G Smith with Wright etc.). Personally I think the benefits of short 1+1 flexible deal on the right money far outweighs the cons.
Anyone got Dave Hanham’s email addresses?
Doesn't that make it Rodda's team if he is the skipper?
Nah.
Although I do think he is a critical ingredient, that we absolutely can't lose.
Hes an interesting one, as his is actually from Northern NSW but after getting a chance with Ippy Grammar he fell in love with QLD - in terms of his rugby identity. Love that.
I consider Jordy the centrepiece as I think he is the most gifted homegrown rugby asset QLD has had in recent memory.
I think Rodda is immense too no doubt, and I think he would make nearly any rugby side in the world.
Liam Wright is great, but who's to say he will hold his spot from McReight in coming seasons.
Jordy will make the world cup squad, or go very close, without even playing any rugby this season.
In addition he is humble and hardworking.
He is a ball-playing, physical, hard-running centre.
When was the last time we had one of those? If ever?
Hard running center yes. Tremendous talent yes. Ball player no. Think best suited to bend the line 12 or hard running 15 in outside channel
Lets not pump up Jordys tyres too much just yet, he hasn't even played a full season of first grade yet. I agree with the above, i would not consider JP a ball player (yet). He has great offloading ability and can pass the ball but he hasn't shown enough to be a 'ball player', nor has he played enough to display such skill. Immense talent however.
