Reds 2020

The Reds are a young team who will have these brainfat games. The 'Tahs played out of their skins with an almost mistake free first half. As much as it hurts me to say it the 'Tahs were far too good for us on the night. Credit to the Reds for hanging in for the 2nd half and not capitulating completely. The Reds will be hurting and the Rebels will need to be on high alert. This team will bounch back and bounce back hard.

Yeah I don't get it. I'd hate to be a coach. We win that game, and I believe top the table - everyone would have been taking up the silverware and how good recruitment is and Thorn etc etc.... we lose and baby is drop punted with the bath water.

As evident by the table. It's a close comp. Teams all seem close on paper and all games have been really tight bar 2 big blow outs which were bizarrely upsets. Every team is probably equally (and justifiably) annoyed at the results to date!!

You must be disappointed though? i am less tribal and i was very excited by all the young prospects in the Reds side - but it is quite disappointing to see them fail to turn their obvious talent into wins.

As you point out - Queensland seem to produce most of the countries talent. So something must be up.

Also - you can't want to keep tribalism alive and also want the Tahs to fail outright. Doesn't make much sense.

Of course I am, but the last refuge point I want to share that misery with is someone from NSW.

I don't have stockholm syndrome, at least not yet.

Two of Australia’s greatest modern era hookers are living in Brisbane - Steve Moore and Brendan Cannon. I wonder if they ever get them in to assist - I would be, hookers and props have such specialised skill sets at vital times that I would be looking to get as much help as possible to evolve my game.

I'd be getting Ben Mowen in for the lineout as a whole as well. He's in Brisbane and signed on as the Junior Wallabies forwards coach and is an excellent lineout operator. He was apparently running the lineout (and the training around it) at Pau for his last 3-4 years there.

I’d be very keen to see this.

As I see it the Reds have the defence, scrum and a good enough attack (which still needs work) to win the comp - but our lineout is a massive Achilles heel and there is every chance we miss out on the GF altogether if we can’t get it right.

It really is a shame we fell in such a hole last week. Credit to the Tahs for putting us to the sword, but you can’t help but conclude after last night we were just in the completely wrong headspace for give ourselves a shot.

The line out went much better last night, though once the throw improved we did find other issues.

Let's just keep the improvement moving.

The good thing for me Dru is that we have the cattle to have a good lineout. Salakaia-Loto, Blyth & Wright give us 3 good primary targets and Wilson is an able 4 th target. And, whilst I don’t want to under play the level of detail required at professional level I do think having the cattle is a good start. If we can get a bit more of the finer detail right I don’t see any reason we can’t turn the lineout around relatively quickly and getting a much better result.

Edit: Although I guess if it were that simple you’d think it wouldn’t be the problem it is now

Agree I think the lineout may be the reason the Reds miss the GF, I think the quality of the matches is leaving the players somewhat taxed as well. The game against the Brumbies was high quality and I think the players struggled to back it up. That's an experience and maturity factor.

For the sake of the Australian rugby, i'm kind of glad the Tahs won last week.
It gave the Tahs players, and the fans a reason to be positive and tune in to watch their team.

A competitive tournament is a healthy tournament.

For the sake of Australian rugby - sure.

But I’m pretty selfish bloke at heart. I’d rather the Brumbies & Rebels take the fall for the good of Australian rugby. :)

I do wonder how much the FIFO takes the players recoverability. From memory, the Reds got home at like 1:15-1:30am Sunday morning, by the time the players are home and in bed, it'd be close to 3-4am. So I can imagine training on Monday morning will be a complete writeoff and even Sunday's recovery would be difficult.

One thing I really like about Daugunu is how hard he chases the kick. Our kick chase is something I’ve felt has been really poor for a few years but he chases hard and looks to time his tackle.

His tackling has gone from something of a weakness to a real strength. Uses his body height to really good effect.

man, his tackling technique still remains high risk high reward, getting underneath a player is good for driving them back, but it doesn't take much to tip them a fraction too far.

He had a shocker at the start of the year but he’s been pretty flawless since then as far as I can remember. He just has to make sure he hits and drives and doesn’t lift.

From memory he has copped a few cards in the NRC as well... I agree he does seem to have improved though

I've just searched on Harry hockings and izac lucas. They are still not contracted to any teams and not playing. You would think they would have rather some pay instead of none at all.Plus they could at least have some match fitness. Very strange what happened

I think I've mentioned this before but I wouldn't be surprised if they have already signed deals in Japan for the next season and/or this one too. In fact I know they have and are trying to stay out of the spotlight.
