Reds 2019

I thought that Physio is usually a part time role only as consultancy. if they need additional Physio support I'm sure they will bring it in.

The wingers that Brisbane City have selected the past few weeks have probably been picked because they are more experienced and developed but the won't be apart of the Reds next year for whatever reason - Ngamanu to Souths Logan League, Con Foley playing in the USA, and Jaye Thompson going back to NZ (So I've have heard).

Eadie has to be (by a fair margin) the best young specialist winger in QLD 1st grade. I think he is 19? The kid scored 12 tries in 11 games for UQ. He has played rep for QLD and Australia and every possible junior level (from a quick search). I reckon he is worth a punt on developing further, the others mentioned have already been a part of professional environment at some stage of their career.

*edit. Hopefully Peter Ryan can have a positive impact on his defence (and the rest of the Reds for that matter!!!)

Having said that, I wouldn't mind seeing Jock Campbell get a crack at an outside back spot either. Has been strong this NRC.
I think Eadie's defence is at least as good as Rod Davies was and it will improve as his strength improves. As they say, "Speed kills" and having a genuine flyer makes a difference. Eadie has a knack for getting into space and I'm looking forward to him being outside Jordon P in a year or 2.
If the Reds haven't signed McReight and Kibble, they have missed 2 genuinely skilled loose forwards in that age group and gone with size before ability in the forwards.

So thought I'd drop a note here in the hope that someone Reds sees it.

I was THIS >|< close to dropping Reds and swapping to Rebels until the Reds sort their shit out. Would have been a VERY easy decision if Slipper had joined Genia and (likely) Quade in Melbourne.

What changed this?

NRC, Country and City, ie a broader Reds in the absence of Thorn. Oh to be fair I like the look of Thorn's new assistants. The players themselves seemed to find a joy of rugby in the NRC. In turn it means that I find more joy in rugby.

I'm not saying we should remove Thorn, I'm saying it was a shit call and we are left having to chew. Would have been different in a year or two when Thorn may have been better prepared and certainly the Reds urgently need a strong CEO prepared to clip ears (even Thorns) where it is needed. No more wasting of QRU investment in the form of players tossed into Premier rugby with years paid for in advance.

I wont be taking membership this year, but unlike last year I probably will manage to fly up for a game or two. And I wont miss them if they are in Sydney. Maybe Canberra too.

2018 must absolutely be the Nadir. No excuses. Not expecting finals let alone winning it, but a result like 2018 (or 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) just will not cut it.

I'm expecting Thorn to release the creativity that is developing, not to shackle it in shit game plans and gym work.

Chance is yours Reds. Make it happen.

[Oh another thing definitely helped. Streaming premier rugby. Got to say thanks to that. Helped me maintain my sanity in a complete collapse of Qld rugby otherwise. You are to be congradulated on this at least.]

I always get concerned with split professions.

Lillicrap as scrum coach AND physiotherapist, how is there time for both, I would have thought they should both be full time positions at this level.

a full time scrum coach? How much scrumming training do you think they do?

I always thought the scrum coach is essentially a forwards coach. Must be wrong but I would have thought between scrums, lineouts, rucks, mauls and hopefully some set moves there would be a fair bit to go through at a training session.

Look at the titles. Lilycrap is scrum coach.

Thorn would be doing the other forwards stuff.

I suspect it’s more than that. This is as close a sniff at the big league that Cameron is getting. And he’s like literally up for it. The bloke has been gagging for involvement for years. And now is his time. And he looks pretty damn good at the job.

I love this appointment. It’s know it’s kind of minor, but it’s kind of mega too.

I saw the announcement about Harry Wilson, anyone know about these guys. Just watching Kibble yesterday, the young bloke has some serious power, strength and skills. He's got that perfect build for getting in and pinching ball from rucks, in a year or 2 he'll be a monster at the breakdowns.

So one prop spot (Slipper's) and one back row spot (Tai Ford's perhaps) still to go.

We need an openside so Gill is the obvious target assuming Kibble, McReight and Giquel are all in the academy (although in fairness we perhaps should allow some to go elsewhere to develop - perhaps Tahs can have McReight and Giquel can go 7s for a year or two).

as for prop, I'm guessing they will look straight to NRC. No one from Brisbane City, so perhaps Richie Asiata steps up? Would Markus Vanzati come back? Unlikely I guess.

Couple of TBAs - negotiating with a prop + loose forward?

Trying to predict a best forward pack:

1. Ruan Smith
2. BPA
3. Thor
4. Rodda
5. Tui
6. Timu
7. Wright
8. Higginbotham (c)

16. Mafi
17. Hoopert
18. JP Smith
19. Hockings
20. Korczyk

just swap your Smiths around and that's probably it. Not sure who I prefer at 6 though - Higgers or Timu. Much of muchness I guess as they can swap during games as appropriate.

Logically you'd think they'd also want to announce the backs close to this forwards announcement... does that infer transfers/decisions have been made on QC (Quade Cooper) and KH? Or were they left out of squad PR earlier this year despite being contracted?

I so hope they manage to drag Gill back, but can't remember where i read it or heard it, but apparently there was 2 sides after him in Aus and the Reds weren't one of these. Then went on the say that the Brumbies might see him as a replacement for Poey post wc if he decides to leave.

Would love to know whats happening with Hunt

EDIT: it was in the Australian on the 14th.

Very, very interesting who we sign from the NRC. Especially with regards to the backrowers.

McReight/Kibble ahead of Gicquel for mine based on the full competition. All 7s.

In the backs; Tasi, Campbell, Gordon all make a decent case.

Liam Gill would just be ideal lad to bring into this squad mix though. Back him in Thorn.
