Yeah, it seems strange that the voices so far see this relationship as a test for Quade. I would see something more of a test for an incoming coach of unproven ability.

They both have something to gain - or lose - here.

Interesting point. I guess most people already have an assumption of Thorne's coaching style given his playing style and attitude towards the game. Being the ultimate professional and tough as nails player. Although, looking at past experiences a players talent does not always translate to coaching. I always think of Stephen Larkham in that regard, probably one of the best attacking players of all time in Australia, with superb vision of the game. However looking at his reign at the Brumbies, the attack is far from spectacular and it's up for debate at the wallabies. Will be very interested to see what kind of game Thorne will bring.

It won’t be difficult to predict what the Reds will bring in 2018 with Thorn and TT in charge. The roster put together also complements the style, IMO it will be a game plan around physically breaking teams down. They key to success next season though will be around set piece and game tactics/management.

Is the because the Reds aren’t paying enough coaches who they have gotten rid of or has he found another job and wants out? All his talk was about wanting to come home and be in Brisbane.

Reg - was wondering if you could provide your perspective on something.

Last year I felt we struggled with fitness levels. I understand that Thorn & the S&C staff clashed and, it has been speculated on here at least, that that was what precipitated the S&C staff seeking employment elsewhere.

Who had the most influence on S&C last preseason?

Do you think Thorn's increased influence will have be a positive in this regard? Or is his influence more likely to be an unneeded disruption to the professionals?

Actually- do we have a professional S&C staff anymore?

I am hoping that Thorn will whip them into shape - and there seems to be plenty of talk about his influence in that area. But sometimes I believe head coaches impinge too much into areas of others speciality.

By he sounds of things Thorn is going to be a one man band. I get the impression that he is a confrontational character, based on other guys leaving and a story I was told about how he became QC (Quade Cooper) coach. I’m not a big TT fan but I would have thought having someone in the coaching staff who had experience would have had some advantages. I have grave fears this entire episode will be a cluster f*#k.

someone told me that TT isn't happy with the coaching appointment and won't be hanging around.

So what on earth changed? Surely it was known and discussed before his contract was executed? Not a good look for Reds HQ. (Again)

yeah, the stories I heard were that many of the players stopped listening to Damian Marsh et al and would just do what Brad told them, including moving from the relatively new gym built for the players back in 2013 back to the old tin shed near the creek bank. Agree, will be very interesting to see who does S&C next year. Brad obviously likes it (don't know what 'training' he has for it other thank plenty of years of rugby) but can he balance both gigs? PLus all the off-field stuff we know a head coach must do (corporate events, media) but I gather he doesn't enjoy.

Noting my comments about TT are a rumour, someone connected told me, but it doesn't mean it is 100% accurate or that the situation hasn't changed.

geez the QRU are a debacle, they make it really hard to support the Reds as a team..
Maybe Paul Carozza who was his assistant coach for QLD Country will move across to work with Thorn at the Reds as well.

Tough being TT behind Thorn. Knowing that Thorn has qru, players and public's backing; all he can do is be a yes man. He is on a hiding to nothing unless he wants to do all the admin type stuff thorn may not want to do.

Since TT is apparently a good mate of Stiles then perhaps he was unhappy with the removal of Stiles and doesn't really fit with Thorn's approach. It makes sense for a HC to have people he can work with well around him - I think we've all seen examples of where that hasn't happened and been an unhappy marriage.

I’m not totally sure that Thorn has the public backing. Lots of guys I know are in the “wait and see” camp and the only reason they aren’t incredibly upset is because it’s the QRU and they’ve made us expect this from them.

Thorn had success in the NRC, completely turning around Qld Country, but that’s it. Qld run, arguably, the best 20’s program in the country so winning that was expected in my eyes.

The stories about the S&C for 2017 worry me. It was an area of concern and got worse as the season went on, maybe as a result of Thorn’s meddling. Marsh has the runs on the board with the Brumbies and Reds previously, so he obviously knew what he was doing.

If the Reds don’t win games early next year the pressure will mount. Lots of heads should roll from the Board and HPU who instigated this whole saga. Cordingley should be first to go as everything he touches seems to go to shit.

I honestly do hope Thorn is a success as I’m a life long Reds fan but the way this was done has me questioning the guys running things at QRU, again.
