Yep. CFS may push Nabuli though.

I've heard who one of our THP signings is. Just sworn to secrecy. A solid and experienced prop with super rugby experience. He'll be fine.

Would still have preferred Vui.

Assume a squad must come out soon? This must be the latest it's ever not been announced? Force / salary cap / squad extensions obviously a factor.

Good news Reg. I wait in anticipation.

Injury can cause havoc in any squad but THP seemed our particular Achilles heel.

I forgot about CFS, his form during the NRC is about as good and consistent as I’ve seen him play.

Clubs still waiting on final word from the ARU for what the salary cap and squad size is for 2018.

Styles and Thorn both have demonstrated to be astute technical coaches though I see Thorn more of a leader which is where I see improvement in the Reds as much of the woes of the Reds within the last few years have been cultural. Where I see Styles being best suited is to be recruited as Wallaby scrum coach. I don't think he is a good head coach but man he has proven a bloody good scrum coach.

Most coaches who were good/excellent players generally were before the current players. They have to gain their "respect" from a coach's perspective.

Most of the current players remember Thorn for his playing ability. Tough, uncompromising, excellent player blah blah. They respect him immediately for that playing ability.

The secret for Brad is to gain respect as a coach, man manager, tactician, cultural leader, impartial selector (based on form, not reputation).

He has the first part in hand and time will tell (quite quickly) whether he gains the second part.

I'm not much of a betting man but IMO I think he will be able to get both and get the best out of his roster in 2018

I'm just really interested in how Thorn will use Quade. It's such a funny thought of him coaching Quade, given he's played against him and was front and Centre to those grubby moments by Quade like kneeing Richie in the head. Can't imagine he'd have a huge amount of respect for him initially. Although he is the ultimate professional so I'm thinking it may work wonders - still a funny thought though.

I would think Thorn will give Quade a few games but if he doesn't perform well he will be dropped.

I don't think Thorn is the sort of bloke impressed by a player's' reputation (of years ago)

Is there a reason you call him Styles and not Stiles..?

Know a Styles who spells the way I did. Simple mistake.
It may not be just you just noticed for a while people saying styles and never bothered me thought it was a nickname as you liked his style like a play on words.. Lol guess a honest, mistake is just as good :)

I think he will do well with Quade, he was obviously so disillusioned with New Zealand Rugby after seeing the captain head butt an opponents knees in a blatant attempt to hinder his ability to step that he chose to come to QLD To be honest I dont think Quades knee has ever really recovered from this vicious act. What game are you recalling? My recollection seems to be different

Yeah, it seems strange that the voices so far see this relationship as a test for Quade. I would see something more of a test for an incoming coach of unproven ability.

They both have something to gain - or lose - here.

I’ll be interested to see which of our wingers step up next year.

Perese seems to have one jersey locked up - but he is still a young guy on the rise.

CFS - has had lots of chances, but also his share of bad luck. In red hot form in the NRC.

Daugunu - has emerged from the clouds and a shining example of what the NRC can bring. But then, so was Simone last year and he struggled to match to hype.

Nabuli - The most established. Plenty of upside/potential but hasn’t quite kicked on. Discipline has been an issue. But I think he form has been pretty good too - just maybe overshadowed by some of the others around him.

Maranta - has to be considered the rank outsider - but if he can’t make an impression this year than I doubt he’ll break through at all.

Did I miss anyone?

I don't think Nabuli necessarily has a discipline issue, I think its more of a technique problem.. maybe its one the same... Most of his yellow cards and penalties were for indiscretions when tackling, more often then not for going high or making contact in the air when chasing through on a kick.

He is a big bloke, he just needs to learn to tackle lower, officials were fairly strict on contact with the head in SR2017 and it cost him.

I found watching the NRC final interesting when looking at CFS, he seems to still think he can run over the top of people and stands quite vertical with no swerve prior to contact yet a seemingly much smaller players like Duncan P have the skills or attitude that allows them to break a defensive line.

CFS needs a drastic change in the way he runs towards an opponent or else I do not see too much of a future for him, there has always been massive potential but he has been on the same plateau for a long time.

From memory, I thought two of his cards were for tacking guys out in the air, with the third one being for the a deliberate knock down (very unlucky on that one IMO). All very fixable - but I guess that was part of my frustration - giving away penalities needlessly.

But I rate the guy and I'd probably still have him and Perese as the favoured starting wingers at this time.

Do we know if Qld have any spare outside back spots left? Any chance they are leaving a spot open for Magnay or has that window been shut?
