As intruder mentioned, the Japan contract doesn't mean he is leaving, CFS could still be at the Reds in 2017..
I've got no issues with guys like CFS doing the Flexi contract, i believe he is the exact type of player it should be aimed at, the guy who isn't in the Wallaby squad, who could use more game time, and I think he still has something to offer at Super Rugby level, just needs the right environment to find it.

I'd have to put my money on Curtis Browning staying at the Reds for the foreseeable future.
He proposed to his longtime girlfriend Courtney last week, who turns out is the new CEO's daughter. They're expecting a kid in the next few months.
I'm sure Barker would do all he can to make sure his daughter and new grandchild aren't forced to move to Europe or Japan anytime soon.
God Brisbane can be a small place. Just read that Richard Barker is Tom's brother. I believe Richard is a little older and attended Nudgee, while Tom was a State High hero.

I'd like to think that the CEO would be focussed on the performance of the QRU and nowhere near a decission like that. Reds playing issues are surely for Herbert or the HC.

I said that I think he will stay. I think Barker will do what he can to keep Curtis here - no matter how small or large that influence is, even if it's just subtle.
If I was the new Head Coach I wouldn't feel great about going to my new boss and saying "Your son in law is dead weight, i'm giving him the flick. Could you please sign on this dotted line to release him?"
At any rate I think he's played well enough this year that he's earned a spot in next year's team on merit. I was just pointing out the interesting fact that a player's (who might be organising to leave) father in law just became his boss.

Browning's game has improved significently in recent times, whereby he's taking ownership of the No 8 jersey. Schatz is probably a bit nervous re the future.
Maybe its what he needs as a wake up call?
And now there is Leroy, who at 114 kgs is a bigger machine again for the No 8 taking up the ball.

Jake Shatz has been average at best for a few years now. He's a workhorse, but lacks impact. He's digressed significantly since he was unfortunately injured before that Bledisloe a few years back.
He also doesn't have the the irrational love for meat pies like CB

Schatz has been a good servant for the Reds but I can't see the Reds needing all of Timu, Houston, Tui, Browning and Schatz to cover 6 & 8 (though Curtis can play 7 passably). One has to go and if it is a choice between Jake and Curtis I'll take the latter.

Pretty sure Tom finished at BSHS in 1974, Richard captained the First XV at Nudgee in 1978.

Let me clarify, Brownings future has already been decided it's just not available to the public, his potential father in law had absolutely no bearing on his future. If Curtis re-signs(and I'm not saying he has or will) it's because he earned it through his performances, if he heads overseas it's because the decision was made months ago.
I'm sure Curtis would be mortified at even the smallest suggestion nepotism played a part in a coach offering him a new contract.

Shatz is unfortunate imo.
Honestly, I've never seen someone get up in the air so quickly as he does for line out steals and he tackles like a demon all game. He just goes backwards in contact - every time.
Maybe his height is wrong, or he doesn't run at the gaps, or whatever - but if someone would just sort that out he would be great.

His lack of carrying might be OK if he had a presence at the ruck, which unfortunately he does not. He needed another string to his bow, whether it be an effective carrier or good technique at the ruck / getting over the ball. Unfortunately he does neither.
At his age, I think one of those skills would've likely developed by now, so while he's been a good servant, I'd prefer to give guys like Browning more chances, guys who show some impact in the areas Schatz lacks.

WAS a great coach. Once dubbed the best never to coach QLD. Amateur era record with a stacked Souths team was very, very good. Since those days, very little to write home about apart from the Churchie joint premiership with Cooper and Pocock.
As long his brother realises it's not 1993 still, I think we will be alright.
