Take off your tinfoil hat, mate. There is no way the ARU will give Hayne a top-up. Why would they?

Concentrate your spleen on your own franchise. You guys have done enough harm to yourselves without worrying about imaginary advantages that the Tahs get.
That was the talk on FoxSport news. I wouldn't have an issue is Hayne signed with the Tah's, just with the ARU were putting cash in.

Also if I'm not allowed to worry about the imaginary, what are we all doing here?

Jets, you seem to have hit a raw nerve. Dont let it bother you.

Fwiw, the bloke is an athlete looking for a home. I just want to know that rugby is not a part of the journey, but something he wants for more than his last two pre-seasons.

If we chuck in cash, OK, lets make sure its sensible. If he wants to live in Sydney, well that is a home town advantage to the Tahs. Fine. Anyone dopey enough to want to live in Sydney gets what they deserve. (I live in Sydney.)

I get the connection to where the Reds are with ARU calming international coaches. Lets hold fire though. See what happens.

Monday's announcement can't come soon enough.

Yes and no.

While frustrating, this refractory period is a period of hope.

All signs are pointing to 3 years playing for 3rd in the conference come Monday.

I think we can compete for first or second.

I realise that I am blinded by being a Reds supporter but if QC (Quade Cooper) signs for us then comparing player for player with the other teams the Reds are pretty good.

If a coach can even get our team to its potential, never mind improve our players then we are looking good.

With the performance of the Reds and Force over the last few years I wonder why they can't include KPI's in the new coaches contracts saying that if they don't achieve a required level of success the club has the option of terminating their contract without having to pay out the remaining years on the contract. This may sound harsh but these guys are earning big bucks and should not be able to demand huge payouts if they are proving unsuccessful.

Aside from the coach, my biggest concern is lack of depth. Like many teams at all levels, our top side is quite competitive. Once injuries occur, and they will and therefore should be planned for, we are stuffed.

Our key recruits are 34+. Durability has to be a concern. And no QC (Quade Cooper), no chance.

I think we also forget how bad we have been over the last 3 years, 2-3 great players won't turn that around if the infrastructure is poor.

RG lead two historically bad seasons, a span unseen by an Aussie franchise and only Lions & Cheetahs have seen the like before. A GLOBAL search saw him re-appointed. Now a second GLOBAL search has been conducted and the leading candidate is the guy who has been there every step of the way, including at the Force and has shown he can do half his job well.

RG had a squad who was championship calibre played finals 3 straight years. Look how that panned out. The coach matters.

You only need to look to Eddie Jones to see what difference a change in coach and a change in context/environment/attitude/culture or whatever it was can bring.

I am excited by the prospects of the Reds next year. In the forward pack there is some pretty reasonable depth. Good props, two very good hookers, three good locks, nice mix of youth and experience in the backrow. Backline maybe not so much but that just makes it exciting to see what the NRC will unearth or further develop. Will watch the Tuttle brothers with keen interest.

Australian conference needs some success

Our key recruits of that age are Smith (7) and Moore (2). Both have reasonable cover in Ready and Gunn whom whilst young, will provide willing and apt cover and will both on continue to improve.

It's in the backs where I think if we were to 1 or 2 starters, then you are looking at replacing them with teenagers or part time clubbies which is a problem

Has Gunn bulked up a bit yet?

Maybe it's because he's a bit taller than most 7's but my memories of him are still of very skinny back rower. Not to say he isn't a quality player (he is) but I can't imagine that frame holding up well to dozens of clean outs on the neck/shoulder area from Super Rugby-sized forwards.

its largely due to supply and demand.

The number of coaches that have the necessaries to coach at a super rugby level are few, and in high demand both here and over in Europe. Therefore they are in a strong bargaining position when dealing with the super rugby franchises (i.e. They can afford to walk away from the deal until the franchises come grovelling back).

Also, I don't know why, but Australian coaches in all sports seem to be extremely happy to just go where there is more money. There appears to be a lot of our specialist coaches all over the world after they have served their time at whatever institute of sport here. Lack of clear career advancement maybe? I dunno. They don't seem to come back too often in a role that is better than when they left.

NZ ones in rugby seem to have a clear goal towards the might of the all blacks - even when they march off over seas they mostly appear to be gaining experience towards bettering the super rugby franchises and the all blacks eventually.

The super rugby franchises (Australian mainly) appear to be stymied by a very clique and extremely unprofessional organisation structure. A lot of sports here seem to be so though. This leads to a poor bargaining position as well.

The NZ rugby model appears to be extremely unified and driven.

Ours is less so at the moment.

I have digressed, sorry.

On Blackadder, I remain unconvinced that he should be the coach, I think he has been successful in an environment where he was provided with a production line of world class players, an ITM Cup Team which constantly produces results of a high standard and produces skilled and polished players ready to step up to Super Rugby..

I'm not convinced that coaching success can transplant to the Reds/Australian Rugby where he isn't as well supported with player depth and skill.

I would have thought he would fit right in at a team with a production line of talent and an NRC team that constantly produces results of a high standard.
