I think maybe we should all shut up about the "who was the player that punched chook?" I started this, so I'm gonna end it.

How about this?
Nick Stiles: Head coach & 'assistant forwards coach' (i.e. set piece coach)
Laurie Fisher: Forwards coach
Attack coach: Jim McKay
Defence coach: Matt Taylor
S & C coach: Damian Marsh
Kicking & skills coach: Mick Byrne

Who would like that as the reds coaching staff?

I can't see Fisher taking an assistant coach role. I thought the reason he left was so he could be the head coach. Also Taylor and McKay might be in the same boat.

I interpreted it as more he would be happy if Stiles was Head Coach, rather then giving him is out and out vote. Through the wording Quade used in that everyone had a clear role in the NRC, I'd assume that Quade was given a fair deal of leadership and freedom to run the plays and tactics. Stiles was supported by Holmes as a great forwards coach, but other support has limited it to clearly as a strong set piece coach with good cultural aspects. A coach like that would most likely allow Quade a large degree of independence.
This seemed pretty clear to me:

“I’d love that. I’d love to see him have that opportunity. Everything I want in a coach and in a mentor, he has those qualities,” Cooper said. “So I’d be excited to work under Stilesy and build a relationship moving forward.”
Indeed, he indicated the Reds’ choice could sway his decision on where to play in 2017.
“I’ve got a good relationship with him and if he gets the nod then it’s probably something that would swing in my favour,” he said."

I'd likely be delighted with all except Stiles.

Apart from a new HC who's demonstrated a proven record of success as HC at elite levels - and Stiles is a zillion miles from that status - we also need an HC who has the personal self-confidence and gravitas to clean out every last trace of cronyism, 'rugby mates', 'liked by the QRU board and a real good bloke', etc etc inbred and internally dependent persons and cultural artefacts residual from the Graham era and still in existence within the QRU 'rugby department'.

The whole place needs revolution, not evolution.

Appropriate selection criteria weighting for a new Reds HC (assuming that saving the Reds from endless rugby ignominy and commercial bankruptcy is the objective):

- proven track record of success at Super or national or equivalent levels: 8/10

- demonstrated ability to build a crack total rugby coaching team of specialists and generalists as required: 8/10

- generally liked by players and 'voted' up by them: 2/10

How would you be if I swapped Fisher & Stiles? i.e. Fisher HC and forwards coach & Stiles set piece coach

Would Stiles and Fisher be a good mix noting they are both Forwards specialists? I cant see either being HC and letting the other have full reign over the forwards which could make things difficult. Certainly not in the first year of being HC.

Also a lot of $$$ involved in that coaching line up!

Fisher as 'forwards open play coach' (i.e. rucks, mauls, all that sort of shit).
How good is Fisher with set pieces?

Shit, surely a good forwards coach can do it all. At the Reds we already have good experienced piggies at set piece time anyway.

It sounds like we should end up with more coaches for specifics than players in the squad:)

I don't really care if we have one person who can do it all well or a Head Coach with 28 gazillion specialist assistants. As long as we hire who we need to perform week in, week out then I'll be happy.

Sounds like if Stiles gets the gig and QC (Quade Cooper) returns because of that, I know who'd be running the team.

Why would Fisher make a good Head Coach? - he didn't make the finals in four years as HC with the Brumbies and hasn't done anything as the current HC at Gloucester. He also struggled at Munster as forwards coach and was basically shown the door. From what I gather he has one short stint as an assistant to Jake White where the Brumbies lost the Super final but it seems he is the Messiah? Am I missing something?
