so what are we going to do next year?

Play Lucas at 10? Now we've lost our back up scrummie.

To'omua is signed now.

Do we go after Daruda? Should we sign a marque player? Those will be hard to get RWC year.

Jono lance? Do we move Hynes again? This time to 10?

What? Has Cooper definitely signed?

i didnt think the ARU was willing to offer him a top-up contract until after the court case was heard, so how could he sign for the Force?

someone needs to let me in on whats going on?

Anyway, although Simmons and Humphries have been playing awsome, the Reds do also get James Horwill back in 2011, what a sight thats going to be.

I guess we can also expect Andrew Shaw to earn a new contract considering his dad is now the President of the QRU

How can he leave that? Until we see any sign of betrayal wich we haven't, It is fair to give Quade the benifet of the doubt. After last night it would be better to focus our efforts to supporting the Reds to go all the way.

Does anybody else think that Phil Mooney deserves some of the credit for the 2010 Reds? He was the one, after all, who recruited the Fainga'a boys, Davies, Weekes et al. Unfortunately for him they just weren't ready last year.

Yes he does. Opening he game up and using the ball is somthing he started last year. Link seem to have refocussed alot of Moony's work.

of course he does, his style of play encouraged the development of the players impressive handling skills which are now a core part of the Reds style

They all can pick players, but what they couldn't do it seems is get the players all committed to the cause, playing to the gameplan and fit.

That, Fatprop is EXACTLY what Mckenzie and his team have been able to do.

whole-heartedly agree with both. was thinking the same the other day.

i think he set the ground work and link has used that to finish off the product. and done a good job to recognize that how he has coached other teams in the past (thinking of the grinding tahs style) wasn't what was needed with the reds.

Which is EXACTLY what fp was alluding to.

I'm sure this has been noted previously, but with Turinui well and truly on the outer, can anyone shed some light on where he is likely to end up next year?

1) Will he stay at the Reds? (Massive long shot I would have thought)
2) See if the Rebels want him? (I have heard no rumours about McQueen having a chat to him though)
3) Head overseas? (Europe or Japan?)
4) Retire and replace JP on the Rugby Club (with the occasional jaunt to the various Asian 10's social tournaments!)

I think Link has also developed as a coach with these blokes. When he was signed I thought oh no, boring rugby to come. I was wrong. :) I remember reading an article during the pre season with Link being quoted as saying that he would have no hesitation weilding the axe as he didn't sign any of the playing roster. As pre season progressed, he started saying things like this player group are working hard. My cynical side said that he is just saying that to put up a good image for his employer. I was wrong. :). Now i'm under the belief that current player retention is the # 1 priority.

The turn around of the Reds has truly been a team effort.

I heard that when Turinui was initally sacked from the South Africa tour he was keen to head to France almost straight away to get the end of the T14 season. However i think the QRU said no, kept him hear as depth and to play club rugby.

I think what often happens when a new coach comes in, is that the slate is wiped clean and everything is new to the players.

Link, to his credit, has built on what Phil Mooney started - expansive backline play - and added winning elements such as forward presence and defence. Some of this is to do with Link arriving at the last minute before pre-season training started. No point teaching young guys something completely new, and make the previous 2 years of their development pointless.

I most certainly do. I have and still have a big wrap on Phil
