You hear mungo fans all the time saying how easy Union is because of their workload compared to mungoball well take a look at Genia (and other top Wallabies). The only off season he's had is the time between TNs and the Spring Tour and it's technically not even an off season.

Geez - these first shots of pre-season is looking very exciting. And I second the comments about best Reds squad in 5+years. The key word there is squad. Very good mix of veterans, established stars, young super stars, and up and coming youngsters who have been playing in the sevens circuit etc.

If Gill is the bloke on the left with the brown hair, he is huge compared to the last time I saw him. I think he has been eating what Pocock has been eating.

More importantly it looks like he has been training like Pocock, although he doesn't look any bigger than Beau Robinson who is standing next too him and is not the biggest 7 in the world. Regardless, I would love to see those two go head to head plus Lei Tomiki off the bench in a intra club trial. Plenty of 50-50 calls across the squad.

I dunno tranq his guns are looking pretty good. When i first saw him on the sevens circuit I thought he was a centre because of his running abilities. Great prospect and will look-forward to seeing him get some game time this year

Glad they are training for speed and velocity rather than brute power, doesnt really suit their style of play.

Also where do people keep finding these pictures?

It kind of makes you think, what kind of weights program was he on at Terrace? he has put on serious mass in a short space of time while constantly playing rugby as well.

Im sorry Bruce if this contradicts all S&C facts, but my theories are that:

He might not have matured properly to reap the benefits of the weights at Terrace.

He didnt do it religiously at GT because he didnt need too

He didnt have the guidance and schedule to make it work

Yeah exactly dobduff11, the testestrone used in the muscle building process is a bit of a rare commodity until you really get towards physical maturity(usually around the 18yr benchmark).

Also, his last pre-season with Terrace rugby would have been early last year, getting on almost 2 years. He is been part of a largely professional rugby structure for the past 12months with 7's commitments and Reds training, so the S&C options available to him are a lot more exspensive.

I know a little bit about the terrace strength and conditioning program through some rowing stuff. And its more focused on core type work instead of "bicep building". The gym is very small at terrace, and the program is nothing compared to what I saw at nudgee.

There is talk of a new gym with the a 40m sprint track and all the other bells and whistles, but schoolboys talk alot so you never know.

Also, I'm not sure but I heard gill was more of an all round guy at school, I think he was school captain and studied the harder maths and science subjects. So maybe he was'nt banking on playing rugby while still at school and therefore did'nt put as much time into development. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I hope Genia stays out of contact for the next several weeks to let his body recover from this year. He's had a few injuries throughout the year and going into the Super season and a WC year, we need a fully fit Genia.

Im sure Link and the staff wont push his recovery, lets just hope Genia is smart in allowing his body to recover.

Dominic Shipperly second fastest over 40m, not bad for a bloke his size...

Interesting article on Davies getting clocked as the fastest man in the squad (no surprises there...) and that his peak speak was 36km/h.

I wonder how that compares to the other fast guys around?

I'd be more interested in what precautions they are taking so he doesn't suffer hamstring injuries and the like running at top speed in a game. He'd have to be the fastest pro rugby player in Oz and the Reds Super team and Wallabies test team, eventually, can ill-afford not to have him available on a regular basis.

I take it that he will prove a good enough footie player, including defensively, to be considered a regular in both teams.

If Gill is the bloke on the left with the brown hair, he is huge compared to the last time I saw him. I think he has been eating what Pocock has been eating.

If you're talking about the photo on post #1445, yeah, that's him. He is listed at 94kgs by the Reds and that's up from 86 kgs 14 months ago when he was weighed for Oz Schools prior to their EOYT. He is still young enough to be putting on weight naturally so we should see him gaining some more.

As I have said a few times: when I saw him play last as a Schoolboy, just before the Oct 2009 weigh in, I thought he would be lucky to get to 90 kgs because he looked light boned: not as much as Rob Horne was, but along the same lines.

It's nice to be wrong sometimes.

He's another bloke I didn't think would be that big when I saw him at school, but at least I pegged him then as being fast - something I missed when talking about Sills and Coleman at the time.

I hope Genia stays out of contact for the next several weeks to let his body recover from this year.

I think they should tell him to piss of off for the Xmas break already after a few days. There could be some particularly reason as to why he has fronted up so soon but I can't think of anything that would be likely. Maybe the Oz coaches want him to work on something for a few days while it's fresh in his mind.

There's the mental break needed as well as the physical break. He may not appreciate the virtue of getting relaxation without any rugby aspect to it.

Davies should be looking at games of Habana and learn how to be a fast freak as well as useful around the field with chases, defensive positioning etc.

From what I am told it was a one off - he is going back to PNG this week and then going on holidays o/s so it was a one off session - he is a noted trainer from what i hear - No need to stress

Ipswich Grammar for a hundred years, TSS for 2 (2008 and 2009) but assisted i think for another year in 2007, and Churchie in 2010 onwards

I thought he was old when I was at Ippy Grammar, and that was 17 years ago. He must be ancient now!

don't know his nickname then but has been "bones" for long time. think he actually went to IGS as a student then was there as a teacher for a considerable time after that - think may have been a break in between at Moree or somewhere like that

Still reckon 7 is our weak point particularly after Braid's efforts - likely team looks very strong accross the park but 7, i am doubtful

not me, I'm confident we'll have the guys to cover.

Its only S15 remember. Not test match footy. And we're playing other Aussie teams mostly. Whomever the 7 is will only really battle with Pocock.

Waugh will be injured, and then its just Salvi/Fainga'a at the Brumbies and Lipman at the Rebels.

We'll be fine.
