I like to watch

There is some requirement that the field is to be vacant 90 minutes prior to kick off so that both teams can warm up etc.
I would much rather they warm up out the back & have a Schoolboys game on the main oval, as you suggest.

They did the whole schoolboy's thing for us at the highlanders game. What you do is get the big rivalries (i.e. NC V GT, BBC V ACGS ect) and put their game on at suncorp. They'll bring along all their:
a) team
b) parents
c) heaps of schoolboys who are rowdy and atmospheric
d) $$ money

And your set.
They did this in week 14 for the Reds V Highlanders, put the churchie v BBC game on and what do you know, i was at the game (not with bbc but with family in different stand), and they must have pulled an extra, well it must've been close to 800 more people. Doesn't sound like much but those people all buy the suncorp food (ridiculous prices), and at the highlanders game all get addicted to the reds. That was a great game (L).

So even better, why not put the NC v GT game on before a Reds game? I've heard that in the past they've drawn insane crowds to tenyson from locals (i live in Graceville just next door). You could potentially pull an extra couple of thousand. But I've just realized they'll probably be at the Reds anyway :p

If they can play like last year and win more games they should get a decent crowd. Is there anything played before each game? If not then they should look at a couple of junior games and have cheap tickets for schoolmates/teachers/parents. I would love to see an average of 25000 but it is difficult when the games are played in half a dozen times slots and over 3 different days. I would love to be a member but cant make it due to work.

Mate they have some sort of $50 membership where you get hats, t-shirts and other stuff, plus you can get priority bookings if you can get to a game/final - worth a look and angled at the country supporters but might suit your situation

The years when terrace are going to win usually pull massive crowds (10,000 ish). But that only happens once every 10 years nowdays.

I don't think either school would be willing to forfeit their hosting rights for a game like that in any case. They make too much money from food sales and its kind of nice having the open teams play one after the other on the same field. Really builds atmosphere.

Since the season starts so early the GPS schools might be up for playing a trial match (or even the bye week game) as a curtain raiser.

Hey spik, we're neighbours!

I played for GT v NC in the NC Centenary match in 1991, in front of (they say) 10,000 at Jack ross. It was huge!

No one is saying it was a full house, but it we are talking about trials for goodness sakes. I have even been to Ballymore, something I always swear I will never do again, and their crowds also have not been what one might call excessive either. Brisbane also has over 6 times the population of the GC.

My point is, the GC crowds while not being capacity are also not meagre as some pointed out. The GC has a population of 250,000 and the crowds would be in comparison with the games held in Gosford for example . That eastern stand at Carrara holds over 4000 and was full on the nights I was there, the western stands were largely blocked off to patrons, why? - who knows. For trial matches the the crowd pretty well fitted the expectations of the game and if I remember rightly Qld were shite..

Not sure on your population numbers ABS have the goldcoast population as 498,000 in 2008, estimated current pop is around 528,000. Brisbane has 1,945,000 in 2008 according to abs so only about 4 times

I was looking at that, I have a similar style of membership with the Rabbitohs and dont mind outlaying a few dollars to help fund a team I enjoy watching

Even better, BBC won (which doesn't happen that often I know)! And now they have the former Churchie coach Tom Barker.....

That's the membership I got. Do you know when the match tickets are released? I am not SE QLD based though am planning on travelling down for a few games. I ask because I want to take advantage of the priority seating as I fear platinum seating may be hard to come by with the large membership drive. I haven't recieved my membership package in the mail yet so don't know if this info is in there.

good to see they taking a trial match to Queensland Country with the match in Cairns... With all due respect to them GC and Sunny Coast should not be classified as Qld Country..

I think I might go down the $50 membership route. Don't think I can make it to all the games but would like to show some support.

When Taylor was at TSS they had some of the best lineouts I have seen at any level. He has a very good rugby brain on him and looking forward to what they come up with.

Matt Taylor had the kids putting an extra 5% into a game just for him as coach. Kids played for schools, mates, AND Matt Taylor - very enthusiastic and "his" boys just idolised him - but things change in the professional arena but I understand his enthusiasm remains and that is contagious and only a good thing in the resurgance of the Reds
