I think the idea is he can be relied on. I like seeing Link come through on his promise on a mature and usable academy as this year he will probably need to call on them.

I wouldnt say he has signed Lui to be 'relied' upon, sure his mature, but his playing style is that of a islander who plays first receiver in the irb sevens...

If he wanted to go for the safe option, there are better candidates out there, even in the Brisbane Rugby comp, Matt Brandon and Jono Lance primarily.

Brando isn't that I am aware. Although he was playing so well I knew Link turned up at tigerland for a chat after one of the training sessions, so he is at least in the framework.

Link will go to Lucas in the absence of Quade. Lucus will see more game time also this year and my tip is it will be at fullback.

why do you say that? we still haven't signed a second halfback so I would assume alot of time and effort would be put into Ben's number 9 game. Although he can play 10 pretty well, I would like to see both Jono and Matt on the books in some sense. I would also hope that Ian Prior as been signed as the third halfback.

I say that as I am sure more game time would of been part of the deal when Lucas resigned. When he started at fullback in the last game against the Highlanders, I wouldn't be suprised if Link was testing the waters. I still think he will be our back up scrum half option but I don't think he will ride the pine waiting his turn. I see him as a bit of a Jack of all trades option. Even with the longer season, I don't see either Cooper or Genia being rested as it is our back bone of the backline.

Not saying that I'm right, it's just my thoughts.

Been thinking about the Reds pack next year. Some big calls to be made, and rotation will play a part in the significantly longer season but I thought the best pack would be:-

1. Daley
2. S. Finger
3. Slipper
4. Horwill
5. Van
6. Higginbum
7. Tomieki
8. Houston

The Backs:-
9. Genia
10. Cooper
12. A. Finger
13. Chambers
11. Davies
14. Ioane
15. Hynes

James Hanson with Albert Anae playing as third (hooker/prop).

Also I think Shatz will probably play 7 ahead of, Gill, Quirk, and Tomeki unless Tomeki has an unbelievable pre-season.

I got my first look Gill at the sevens this weekend. He is going to need to bulk up. He is fairly small.

The front row is going to involve some tough selections. I like a Holmes, Fainga'a, Sheperdson front row and if Link goes the two props on the bench, Daley and Slipper are going to make for great reserves. I would expect to see Simmons partner Horwill in the second row as it is the combination of the future. I would be keen for a lot of 5:2 splits on the bench given the healthy tight five options we have. Keep those forwards going fast and hard all game and have that backline thrive on the massive supply of go forward ball. I think we will see our forwards go hard at the counter ruck this year with constant intensity.

Shatz is a super talent, however he is a genuine number 8. I am not sure that playing him at 6 or 7 will help him in the long run - he may be the perfect candidate for the dogsbody this season as he is a good lineout option. Quirk is also a freak talent however he is a prototype 6 and should learn alot playing second fiddle to Higginbum this season (not necessarily from Scott himself however). Gill is very good prospect, and will become a good first team player. However he does need to add size, he is tall enough and he is too good a footballer to allow it to hold him back. This being said it means that Lei Tomeki probably does become a the first choice fetcher and lets hope he goes well, because we need him too. It will be interesting to see if Ben Coridas has been added to the academy because if he can stay healthy I am sure he will have a say in the mix as well. I really hope that this is the year the the jigsaw falls into place for Leapin Leroy.

Absolutely agree about Lucas, It appeared tome as though Link started Lucas at fullback in a direct response to the pressure defence was placing on Quade Cooper, he was effectively targetted in the games against the Brumbies and Hurricanes, and it became evident that the Reds backline was largely ineffective when so much pressure was been placed on Quade. There were no other playmakers in the backline.

Also in regards to Rodney Davies, ive been hearing certain rumours that he has been playing up a bit lately, im not going to go into details, but lets just say he has been using his speed to not only score tries but evade certain uniformed public servants.

QRU signs a new contract with Suncorp Stadium to play all there games at the venue, they didnt mention a lenght but they did say "long term" so im presuming its a 5 year contract tied in with the lenght of the expanded Super Rugby series.

New membership packages should now go on sale next week
