agree noddy, he had some awesome performances for NSW, if he had of signed with the Reds i definitely feel as though there would have been a place for him within the team

the bench is going to be absolutely critical in the extended Super15 season..

one thing which struck me though, i thought the clubs were limited to 30 players in 2011, the Reds already have 30, so where was Rogers going to fit in?

We have 29. Cooper hasn't signed.

Cooper has signed with the QRU, Link said so himself

yeah but as observer says, ARU needs to ratify all contracts. he hasn't signed with the ARU. So if he goes to the Eels, but has supposedly signed for the Reds, you think that counts?

Obviously there is currently a bit of a issue there, but had the reds tabled a offer to Rogers and he signed, does that mean that Quade loses his contract even though he has already signed as well...

My point is, that Link was aiming to sign another player even though technically our roster is full, unless of course he is convinced that Quade is going to depart the Reds which I don't think is the case.

yeah and in the end I am pretty sure there is no hard and fast rule about squads of 30. I think its something they 'endeavoured to work towards', but considering this year alone I think we added Schatz and Samo at least, its a little loosey goosey.

It seems ironic that we are reducing squads in the very same year that the season is getting extended...

I think the idea behind the reduction is to firstly reduce player costs, but secondly to ensure teams aren't stockpiling players.. Undoubtedly there is a bit of flexibility within those rules, just look at how many players the Force had signed for 2010

I think that is why Link has been talking about changing the Academy system in QLD. Trying to move away from having 15 kids to having a mixture of experienced club players and young talent for development with a view for the experienced players to cover for injuries in the top squad.

Makes a lot of sense - especially tight five forwards. You don't want young guys learning on the job in Super rugby when they haven't played much grade.

In the case of Will Slipper it's much better that he learn playing for the Wallabies.

James Slipper has actually played alot of grade for the Breakers side on the gold coast. He is one of those rare props that went straight from XV rugby to Premier rugby. He is now 21, so I would say he has played 35+ games for the breakers - which isn't a bad base.

Ben Lucas is not a viable option at 5/8. If he was an option anywhere, he would already be in it. Who else is there if Quade goes (which I understand from an Eels insider won't happen).
PS nucifora's comments in the grab on the Rugby Club that there are a number of talented young players of the calibre of Cooper ( or something like that) is ridiculous.
