Thanks for the quick reply!

As someone living in Sydney who will be flying up for Reds games, please forgive my ignorance...

So we just show our membership card for the free public transport to and from the game? (BTW, for the games that I am going to directly from the airport, I suspect I will still have to pay rip off airport train prices!)

BTW, who here is going to the game on Sunday?

Yeah just flash your membership card, all games at Suncorp factor in the Public Transport cost, its part of the hiring agreement with the stadium, unfortunately the AirTrain is a private company so you will probably have to pay for the ticket from BNE to the closest station on the QR network, not cheap either.

So what is happening with the Saturday night game.... has a team been announced? I reckon Qld A v Fiji will be a ripper, and I certainly plan on being there. Pity it couldn't be the curtain raiser on Sunday.

I agree that these games should be curtain raisers, however a 2pm or so start in this weather could see someone hospitalised or a death.

Some great talent there indeed, and a number of guys who will be looking to impress and stake their claims for a spot in the top squad. Interesting that Morahan Jnr is in the centres over Sitauti, who played at 13 for Aus U20. I'm keen to see how Ben Tapuai goes as I do believe he will apply pressure on Ant Fainga'a during the season.

Dallan Murphy is another Brisbane club player who I like the look of so will be interested to see how his game has developed. Begs the question, where is Jonno Lance..Sevens?

As an Easts man I am happy to see Charalambous and Brandon on the bench. Two excellent players who are unlucky not to have gone further in their careers. On the Tigers, also good to see Quirk and Toua in the top squad. Been a very long tme since Easts has had this many rep players.

This A game has not been well advertised but I would urge any Reds fan on these forums to get out to Ballymore and support these guys and Qld rugby. I reckon it will be a highly entertaining match.

and the ground has copped a bit of a flogging lately (with a Roar game there Saturday night). It deserves a rest.

Is there a game on at Ballymore this weekend? There doesn't seem to be any anouncement or publicity about it by the Reds! If correct it could be one of Link's mistakes for this season - if he forgets about his fringe players such as Morohan, Tomiki, Samo etc and counts on his "dream 22" he in for a bit of a shock. Didn't the 2nds play curtain raisers to the first home games last year?

What a dumb statement - "dream 22" - I saw hi saying there were a bunch of 50;50 decisions on TV - Samo is injured, the others are playing in the A team - what do you want Link to do with them? If they play the other do not. If you are talking about match scheduling then you need to talk to Suncorp and Fox for scheduling the game at 4.40 and not allowing a curtain raiser due to the uncertainty of the field being available or up to scratch due to the flood - I reckon he would love for them to play at the venue if it was possible

Reds have named Marc Mcqueen as the No. 1 member for 2011. Would be hard to find a more hardcore Reds Supporter than him. He is the bloke that paints his entire head for every match and did it for the fan day last weekend too.
Think it must have a been a bit of a shock for him at work this arvo when Quade and the Fainga'a Twins turned up. http://yfrog.com/gztfytj

Now I think reds followers will understand why Link is looking to pick a very big pack. Its not to push over the Force, which they will do with little difficulty. Its to prepare them for the game next week. Link knows how hard it will be this year to get over the top of the Tahs and now everyone else does too. I don't think they will last the 80, but Links a great coach and he will give them every preparation and test he can. We won't see Gill until the Reds are playing the Rebels, Cheetahs or maybe on tonight's form the Hurricanes; they will need big, fast, powerful and totally committed forwards next week.

Good looking side with plenty of talent.

Good to see Matt Brandon on the bench as he should have a Force contract right now and be playing 5/8 tomorrow night. Im not sure why Dallan Murphy is ahead of him on our pecking order either. Also, same goes goes for James Charalambous and Albert Anae. There is no way in the world Albert is a better hooker at this stage than James, but I guess he is a project player and a member of the full squad so they must give the lad first crack. I'm also very glad that Kimani is not playing 13, he has a great running game, but he will never have a world class ball playing ability - Kimani is a young Digby type. Interested to see Simon Morahan get some game time as he is supposed to be a very good footballer, with a good running and passing game. Rare as hens teeth those blokes.

Tapas and Luke Morahan should dominate in the backs, and I hope Shatzy has a massive game because he could have easily been the number 8 for the 1s tomorrow night. I guess Jarad Butler on the bench is also a player of note as he seems to be rated by the right people. Didn't he get selected in Aus schools while he was injured? and then snagged an academy contract without playing much? have never seen the bloke play personally.

Also looks like Ben Coridas is injured, which is a shame because he would have given the starting backrow better balance.

Im overseas at the moment, but if I were in town i would definitely get there early to watch the 2s go round.

Anybody go to the 2nd XV match and have news to report?

Interested to find out how the dueling 7's Gill & Tomiki went.

A defiant late game comeback by the QAS Reds 2nd XV wasn’t enough to overcome Fiji in a 27-26 thriller at Ballymore on Saturday night.

The Reds 2nd XV looked certain to snatch victory when Easts Premier Rugby flyhalf Matt Brandon slotted a penalty goal in the 79th minute to put them ahead 26-24.

But a mistake from the kickoff and an ensuing penalty goal from Fijian fullback Taniela Maravunawasawasa saw the visitors snare the victory after the fulltime siren had sounded.

Despite the narrow defeat the Reds 2nd XV showed plenty of poise in coming from 24-13 down late in the match with many players putting in dominant performances.

St.George Reds flanker Liam Gill was outstanding in producing another high energy game in defence and at the breakdown, where he produced many crucial turnovers at pivotal moments in the game.

QAS Reds Academy inside centre Jono Lance also looked dangerous in attack while lock David McDuling constantly got the Reds 2nd XV over the advantage line with some powerful runs.

The hitout in hot and humid conditions against a large and well drilled Fijian squad is sure to pay dividends when the Reds 2nd XV take the field against Samoa at Ballymore on Wednesday night (kickoff 6:30pm local). Spectators will again receive free entry to the match.

The match ended three tries apiece with Reds 2nd XV members Lei Tomiki, Ian Prior and Luke Morahan all crossing the paint.

Prior’s try came in the opening half following two dynamic touches from winger Dom Shipperley down the right flank, while Tomiki opened the scoring with a close range effort.

Brandon finished with eight points and was also responsible for their final try when he put in a deft grubber kick for Morahan close to the line.

The Reds 2nd XV is made up of select St.George Reds, members of the QAS Reds Academy and Wider Training Squads, and standouts from the Premier Rugby competition.

2011 QAS Reds 2nd XV Schedule – All games kickoff at 6:30pm local time

Wednesday, February 23 at Ballymore: QAS Reds 2nd XV v Samoa
Monday, February 28 at Ballymore: QAS Reds 2nd XV v Tonga
Saturday, March 5 in ACT: QAS Reds 2nd XV v Brumby Runners

Fiji 27 (Setefano Samoca, Viliame Veikoso, Rupeni Nasiga tries, Taniela Maravunawasawasa 3 cons, 2 pens) def QAS Reds 2nd XV 26 (Lei Tomiki, Ian Prior, Luke Morahan tries, Matt Brandon 2 pens, con, Dallan Murphy pen)

Great to hear Gill having a blinder. This young McDuling..... is he a lock? First time I've heard his name crop up.
