Hey fellas, couldn't find the Troubadours thread and didn't know where else to post this but I wanted to share it nonetheless based on it's simplicity, cunning, and the joy it brought spectators.

Yeah hes a lock. Great to hear Gill, and Brandon going well. Jono wasn't even named in the 22, did Taps get injured? or was he just dragged?

Tapuai played at 12 and Lance at 13. Ben was solid but seems to have developed a short kicking game which I think he may just overuse a tad. Lance was best player on the park for mine, very good defender, and made good yards in attack. He seemed to handle the 13 slot well. Dave McDuling was the best Qld forward, he won't look out of place if he gets his chance in S15. Schatz was solid at 8 and pulled off some good tackles. Liked the look of Prior. Looks a very organised halfback and passed well. A couple of good runs from Shipperley as well.

The Qld A team wasn't quite the same as announced with Simon Morahan and James Charalambous not there at all. Not sure what happened there. Replaced by Lance and Coady (Brothers).

The Fijians were massive and dominated scrums. Some heavy hitting defence from both teams resulted in plenty of spilled ball which did affect continuity. It was a little scrappy in parts but you expect that this early in the season.

Very interesting, where the Fijians all from the local league in Suva and a few Aussie locas as well? also interesting that Lance played 13 and excelled - he has the makings of a very genuine footballer. It would be dreadfully disappointing if Chara were injured again.

Tapuai was doing that last year as well, and while I don't think he has a bad kicking game - he is such a good runner of a ball, and a fine distributor as well. Perhaps Link should tell him to leave the kicking boots in the locker room. If Mcduling keeps playing like it sound he did, we should look to secure his services for a few more seasons in the top squad. AWH is a cream puff, and Radike and Van probably only have one, maximum two seasons left in them. Hard nosed locks are hard to find.

I kind of expected him to regather the 'garry O' and score under the posts but still a very athletic display. He would still be the QLD (and perhaps wallaby) 15 where he still playing in Australia. I just hope that when Karmichael gets sick of AFL he comes to Reds and plays fullback, gee can he play rugby. Either that or Aidan Toua fulfills his potential and .........

I wouldn't be surprised if Link didn't instruct Tapuai to use the opportunity to practice his kicking game, its probably a attribute he is looking for as a fill-in inside centre.

Its always hard to rate the academy games, its often a case that they dont play a style specifically designed for the opposition, rather utilise it as a opportunity to practice the weak parts of there game over and over.

From watching Jono Lance in the 7's he seemed like 13 would suit him down to a tee. Big thickset bloke that can make yards in contact and defends very well. Not a bad distrubtion game either, although it seemed running the ball was his greater strength.

Perhaps, but young Jono is a 10 by trade. Although his running game is very strong, and that is not a bad attribute to have as a 10.

Mass disorganization for members trying to pick up cards today. Many have missed the first half, some seats have been double sold so obviously big problems with the computerized booking system or the monkeys running it.

Another hugely disappointing giant fuck-up from the QRU.

My word Tangawizi. I bought a $50 forever red membership this year, as I can only get along to a handful of games, with the understanding that I could get discounted tickets. When I go to buy my ticket I'm told that the discount is only available if I buy it before game day! Funny thing is I tried to buy it online & there was no option for a membership discount. I sent three emails the the QRU during the week to find out how I should be purchasing my tickets & I got no reply. I'll be calling them up tomorrow & telling them where they can stick their membership. It's an outrage!!!

I thought Hanson did a good job when he come on, and as a few of us predicted in the pre-season, it wouldnt be surprising to see Fainga'a struggle to hold his spot ahead of Hanson who by all accounts is rugby union pedigree.

On a slightly relevant note, I was surprised not to see Hanson even linked with the Rebels as he is a quality hooker and the Rebels don't have one that can stay on the park with any regularity. Hanson was also a player in the ARC Rebels and as such it just made sense.

Still, I like his brand and look forward to finally seeing him play some footy for you guys (even if I was expecting to see him start getting time in 2009).

His run away 30m try in the ARC semi made me burst with pride to wear the 2 jersey.

I also got the non-ticketed membership as i like to go with mates that didn't want memberships, but I went and bought my tickets at a ticketek office before hand. I originally thought it was a 10% discount on four tickets but ended up getting 20% of 8 tickets. I wasn't even asked for my membership card. Then I needed to get another ticket so I phoned up and bought another and got the ticket emailed to me and received the same thing without getting asked for a membership number. Tip don't buy a membership and just say you are a member. I did hear people complaining about not getting a free program but I am not sure on that one.

OR get a membership on the basis of funding the sport you support. This isn't soccer or afl where money is plentiful.

Blame ticketek mate. I bought the membership for that reason. I actually said to the person at the desk that I believed it was 10% as she asked 'what does that get you?' but they said there was only a 20% option. If the lack of knowledge or set-up from ticketek or the Reds admin staff is not up to scratch I can't be held accountable, and that is what I was trying to highlight to provide support to Penquins email of disorganization and disgust. Next time I will add more.......... so maybe the irony will be clear...

I go to the games for that, if I am paying for a membership I want something in return. This is a new policy, in previous years you got a discount at the gate, and was not mentioned in any of the literature on being a member. Bad form all round.

Anyone seen a team list for the Reds A v. Samoa clash at Ballymore this evening? Have heard that Lance is replacing an injured Murphy at 10. but don't know much beyond that.

After a phone call & a bit of a whinge & request for a refund on my membership, the good people at the Reds have decided to give the discount on tickets at the gate. Good on them for listening to their members and having the flexibility to change a new policy. :yay

Decided to go along to the 2nd XV game. Reds up 8-6 at half time after a neat little try that was exactly like the one cooper set up and chambers bombed on the weekend, except situati actually managed to put it down.

Some thoughts:

Reds scrum walking through the Samoan scrum
Hill tenacious and technically excellent - would love to see him with pocock's size and strength.
Second rows are excellent - especially mcduling in the scrums and tight. He pushes any bastard over the gain line.
Backs very hot and cold - but mostly a combinations thing. Most guys manage to beat the first man at least some of the time.
