Well so far the only thing to come out of this game is the Wobblies squad loses another back with Harris out with a hamstring.

This was your post.

So far, Toby had had a strong game at tighthead playing there for the first time this season, potentially in the frame for that bench spot depending on whether Kepu plays or not. Morahan had scored an excellent individual try, he's in the Wallaby Squad too. Naivalu had shown pace and skill in finishing another try, he's being called in to train a la Speight in 2014. Coleman was also playing well in my eyes, as were Hanson and DHP, all members of the Wallaby squad.

The quality of the game overall was low to that point, and arguably after it as well, your second post was accurate in that. Else, to say that Harris injury was the only thing of note is pessimistic or ignorant. Only was the key.

Saying "this has been a fairly poor quality half by both sides. Lots of skill errors and lack of communication. Harris' injury only makes matters worse for the Rebels and Wallabies." is an entirely reasonable and accurate thing to say, and something that had the game been played in Perth, I'd have had the time to say myself.

Saying "The only thing to come out of this game is Harris' injury" by contrast is pessimistic. Perhaps not by intent, but by expression. It's a continuing theme I'm starting to see from a half dozen posters who've seemingly become more active over the past 6-18 months.

A negative reality check, particularly to unfounded or poorly considered optimism is often required on forums. Relentless negativity, or pessimism particularly when the issues are ones people are well aware of, are grating.

I'll admit that I've been a little harsh with you. Pair of arsehole women have sat in front of me the last two home games and get pissed off with a little bit of colour in the support. You want clean passionless support, that's what the corporate seats are for arseholes. Thought the Murrayfield suits were a distinctively British thing, obviously there are tossers everywhere.

Will leave this be now. Sorry for the attacks. We're all on the forum because we love the game, and even though you still still use a bit of lightening up, your passion is still obvious and admirable.

This sort of reasoned approach to a disagreement has no place on an online forum. :p
But really, well played, sir, well played. Actually, sirs.

I love our little Ginger Nut (Scoble). For a younger fella, he plays a pretty solid game.
Another preseason or two in the gym and he will be a monster performer. Good already....a positive Force story moving ahead.

It's good because there was a bit of negative feedback on him from last year's NRC (chucking pies). For all the doom and gloom about the Force's performance in general, a couple of the local guys have been very promising (Scoble, Haylett-Petties, etc).

Rebels are showing a lot at U20 level too. We all just need to ride out the lean couple of seasons to come and I reckon we'll all be performing at a much greater level.

Really excited to see which gems are unearthed from this year's NRC.

Nothing could be as bad as the reffing tonight. Well, the free 'pizza shapes' from the giveaway o the way home could top it. They are fucking terrible.

Still, some much better signs, but the Force were much better than the usual game. Morahan's try was wonderful, so we're both of Sefas.

Stirz was much better tonight. More of that firm, and we will have our old Nick back.

We missed Mike, hope he gets over his injury for the Wallabies. Otherwise, I recommend I know a handy replacement.
I thought Inman had his best attacking game for a long time. Good running lines. The dummy and pass to set up Sefa.

Overall it was a low quality game but much better game than last year's one. This meets my pre match requirement so I will take will take that, and the win ;-)

Inman passed, it was amazing. Needed to see the replay to believe it.

How tge hell was alcock offside when it was a offload. Where the hell was an offside line? Terrible officiating

He was dreadful, it went both ways though. Don't think he had a clue about offside.
I cant beleive we actualy had a a chance to win the game at the end.

Rebels missed many points through the boot.

A lot of kicks, Sefa should have just gone for the tackle instead of the ball on your great try. Would have put him into touch and won the line out. 50/50 call on the obstruction when they called it a try.

Rebels were poor. At least Toby is as good at TH as LH is the only positive I see from that game.

The ball hit a Force hand before bouncing up to Alcock who was in front of that player.

That was the ruling at least.

There were a few occasions where the players needed to learn the laws better,

Luke Jones coming into the lineout to catch a ball on their own five metre line which would have been fine except he went before the ball was thrown.

Sean McMahon being offside at the maul. Adam Thomson got it right that the ball had moved off the line so the lineout was over but there was no maul so he could come round and grab the ball carrier.

McMahon can't then join him in that position because at that point there is a maul.

One aspect of the maul that's not a maul (a Clayton's maul?) that has me scratching my head is just when can the defending side engage with the ball carrier?

The Brumbies seem to have the stock-still non-maul worked out, where they keep the ball in the catcher's hands but don't move off the line to signal the lineout is over. Hence, any defending player coming around the back is immediately offside (though last weekend the ref gave a culprit or two the option to retreat without issuing a penalty - fair enough).

In the Rebs/Force game, however, that tactic was tried on a couple of occasions but the difference was that the side with the ball started to move forwards after a delay of a couple of seconds. On two occasions I saw, the defending team then tackled the front player who had until then had control of the ball. On both occasions the defending side was penalised.

That seemed to be a wrong call to me. The lineout is over, as I understand, as soon as the ball carrying team move off the line, and the ball carrier, if he is at the front of the non-maul, is fair game to the defense. If, on the other hand, he has passed the ball backwards, then he is in effect playing obstruction. In either case, imo the penalty should have been to the defending side, not the other way which was how it was adjudicated.

Can anyone throw light on this situation?
