Rebels 2023

Ignoto

Peter Sullivan (51)
Per the nonsensical clause b, he'd be a non contract player and his home union would be eligible for compensation for his training and development.

It's a load of horseshit but the red jowled rah rah boys in Dublin decree it!
My reading of what a home union/union is different to what your and Reg's is.

As per the definitions section;

Home Union means the Union with which a Player is or was first Registered, or, if different, the Union where a Player was trained or developed.

Then, how is a Union defined;

Union(s) means every national rugby Union for the time being in full and/or associate and/or recognised regional development membership of World Rugby and/or an Association.

With that in mind, slot in the definitions in our case;

(a) a Contract Player whose written agreement has expired enters into a written agreement for the first time with a Union, Rugby Body or Club outside his Home Union (Australia), his Home Union (Australia) shall, be entitled to compensation for his training and/or development;

(b) a Non-Contract Player enters into a written agreement for the first time with a Union, Rugby Body or Club outside his Home Union (Australia), his Home Union (Australia) shall be entitled to compensation for his training and/or development.

So, should the Reds or the Rebels be entitled to any cash?

I encourage it, Rugby rivalries in Aus are way too whitebread.

Could use some bad blood.

I personally think we should just all target qld players for recruitment drives given seems something going on up there…

Oh sorry that happens already doesn’t it…

So it seems Alex Mafi is a Picone / Newstar client. Clearly Stiles and the Rebels have decided to embrace Newstar while the Reds don’t. That’s the Gordon’s, Mafi, Callan, Pone, etc. plus Kerevi….

My personal view when agent having that much impact (picone) a concern. Don’t know I am pro the agent, but not sure reds managed him well even if he is a a’hole.

The Rebels need to tread carefully when it comes to bringing in so many from one stable. I know there are only so many agencies but you are creating a proxy shareholder in the organisation that has huge power. Plenty of NRL clubs have seen this happen and some are now wary of having a certain number from one agency.

I am impressed by the pace of the Rebels activity. Along with the Force recent recruitments the Reds might be in for a shock next season if they don't get it together.

100% agree. We are tracking to be the bottom Australian team to be honest.

Really? You have the best pathways system and the best club comp in Aus. If there was one team that I backed to cover their loses it would be the reds

yeah I’m not quite the pessimist reg is

some players will emerge from gps school footy / qpr that the reds can choose to sign (or let another franchise swoop in)

If you look at their insta page they also have a lot of players in the Brumbies, Force, Waratahs........now one would suggest the Reds do not deal with Newstar, so when did Mafi sign with them Day 1 of leaving the Reds? Sounds like some undercover brother stuff going of here. Dont believe everything you read it might be a smoke bomb lol.

Yeh there isn't much (any) NewStar media about Mafi prior to him signing with the Rebels. I actually thought he was with AFA.

It'll be interesting if Taniela moves on, whether NewStar announce it, as I can't see them being associated with him currently either.

Whats even more interesting if Kerevi wants to stay in Brisbane does he flip management or would Sam C make the first move by approaching Newstar? If theres no engagement from the Reds and Kerevi stays with Newstar and wants to remain in Aus, the Rebels would be the most logical move for him you would have to think.

Yeah right mate - have you not been paying attention to the Rebels entire history? They could roll out Dupont, Itoje and Furlong and still find a way to be piss.

Anyone know what’s happening with Trevor Hosea? When they gave us an injury list he was predicted to be return in round 14/15. So late May, we are now mid July. Does anyone know if he is playing club footy anywhere? As he played for the Dogs in the QPR last year. I was hoping to see him play Mitre 10 cup but haven’t seen any mention of it.

yeah if healthy, I reckon he walks right into Dave Rennies wallabies team. But Rennie would want to see some club footy action first so Horsea needs to be fit for that to happen.
