Not sure the Rebels care that much either...
Raises a fair question - why is there so much talk of players/officials leaving QLD? What is going on up there?
Must admit I picked Hamish to remain a lifer in the Reds jersey, but I'll happily take him down here.
could be just a play for a transfer fee which I heard was being positioned for with another Reds player.

Thought wilkin played some games at 6. Either way can't see Hardwick as 8 option personally as to me more your 7 option (whether that starting or on the bench with wilkin the form player).

I don’t recall seeing the Reds announcing a resign. His 3 year contract he signed in 2019 is up. Perhaps he had conversations. But doubt the Reds have him locked in.

Yes I mentioned this on the Reds thread - Stewart only confirmed signed until 2022. The Reds media release seems like a play to take control of the situation or at least make it seem like they'll get something in return for him.

Queensland's press release re. the Stewart rumour is pretty funny. Maybe they'll teach Hamish a lesson for the importunity of testing the market by banishing him to club 2nd XV while paying a full professional salary, then trading him to Melbourne regardless and paying 75% of his wage.

as an aside, but related to transfers, i do think that clubs should get some compensation for transferring players they may have largely developed. it should only apply to the players first club, perhaps even only if they have come through the academy system ? along the lines of a fee to the club after 5 years of service if the club wants an off contract player to stay but the player doesn't, after 10 years no transfer fee. i'm sure you will all be able to pick holes in the flawed logic.

The QLD and NSW people are fairly parochial when it comes to the harsh realities of a player market. They seem to accept on one hand that rugby in Australia is a professional sport while on the other hand they gnash their teeth any time one of "their" players decides to exercise agency and move to Perth or Melbourne. I'm not ignorant as to why they feel this way, but it is such an opaque conservative throwback mindset.
