I propose that when the formal announcement is made that the Rebels are safe, the Vic chapter of GAGR gathers at TGIF for a meat and beer frenzy, as a salute to Coxy.
I am so there! I plan on a "Mad Monday to Sunday".

Heard today that one of the fox sports team was in Melbourne looking at properties for his son who is moving down here to study.

So, it seems Wayne Smith was on the money - Steve Mitchell is on the move.

Whilst I don't (won't) know the details, one might suspect he may have gone for the CEO role, and when he didn't get it is looking outside the organisation. Can't begrudge a guy for doing that.

Whoever fills the role has a BIG job ahead of them. Namely, get a big logo on the front of our jersey. Then, membership retention.

tough gig i would think, because there absolutely no competition in Melbourne for that sort of thing. just two soccer teams, a really successful NRL side, two pro netball teams, nine mens AFL teams, four womens. good luck.

Bearing in mind, that was an AFP journo penning that piece.

It conflicts with Beth's article from a few days back. THe quote

The national body is currently in mediation with the Rebels over damages the club claims the saga has inflicted on its ability to sign sponsors for next year.

Just got a nice letter from John Eren (minister of sport) in response to an email I sent the Vic government a little while back about the rebels future involvement. It just basically reiterated the governments on going support for the rebels post 2017 and into the future. Nothing juicy to say to build up a frenzy or crazy people to look into things further. But nice to see they are aware of what's going on.

Prob the best lines of note were 'The government remains willing to work with Australian Rugby Union, Victorian Rugby Union and the Melbourne Rebels to ensure rugby union continues to grow its presence across Victoria over coming years'

And 'The government believes having a Super Rugby team in Victoria is crucial for the growth of the game across the state'.

Also referred me to the government media release on 19 May and their position hasn't changed.
