Interesting article from Blocka Dutton. Mus be shit for players who are out of contract.

But one thing comes to mind - is Laurie Weeks in the Wallaby top-up system? Didn't think he was anymore? Either he is getting a topup, Coxy has said a big "fuck off" to the ARU (again) and signed him anyway, or Coxy has the inside word on who stays (and who goes). I'll let the internet play with this one.

Looks like Brett Robinson is on our side Trans-Tasman comp, top team playoff between the leagues.

Perhaps they got Weeksie to put pen to paper before the no-signing directive came out? Just got in there.

Not sure he is the man. He has only ever been the real head coach for three years (if there is a DOR, you aren't head coach) and that was a long time ago. Seems he is better suited as an assistant, and would be ecstatic to see him at the Rebels in that role.

I'm just starting to sense you don't like TT, Kevin.
I have never liked TT.

Took over Munster in 2009 (2008 Heineken Cup winners) and missed the quarter finals for the frist time in Munsters history. If a coach can't get that squad into playoffs his got no hope with the Rebels making finals.

Was handballed on the Rebels when the ARU was in control and should have been the first man gone when Cox took over.

Plus I was in Perth for that horrible game after thumping the Cheetahs the week before.

So basically we can renew the contracts of McMahon, Chibba, and if they're being generous, Toby.

Definitely not saying I hope players leave, I don't want us, and to a lesser extent the Force and the Brumbies to be weaker than we currently are.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see players like Cruze, Jordy and Inman joining Bip in obtaining overseas contracts.

Update from Blocka - looks like this unofficial edict has been in place for a few weeks. So either Lorenzo is on a top-up, Coxy said "yeh, nah ARU - I'm signing mah boy", he secretly knows we're sticking around in Super Rugby, or the deal has been in train for a while and the ARU just let Coxy sign it. So many options to pick from.

Still, the uncertain future doesn't seem to have stopped Coxy signing a number of partnerships. Most notably, the BLK agreement through until 2020. Ther is an IT partnership (whatever that means) and the La Trobe Uni "education partner". Wonder if that means they get cheaper Degrees out at La Trobe?

I'm guessing its as much a part of a strategy by Cox. He's already come out and suggested the ARU will lose money if they cut the Rebels because of all of the long term agreements they have. He's just signing up more to try and add to the pressure.

This.

I think Cox is employing a deliberate strategy to put up significant barriers to exit. And he is selling a good case for it.

But, much like what you three wise men said on the Podcast last night - the chances of significant change are probably low. But still, Coxy is hedging his bets nicely.

Screw the ARU..
Cox is the one investing his own money, the ARU is investing other people's money, they aren't personally vested in the Rebels like he is..

If he decides he wants to re-sign players then that's his prerogative and the ARU can't stop him just because they are a bunch of indecisive twats who are back flipping on a format which they agreed to only 18months earlier.

Cox may be investing his own money but in a product essentially controlled by the ARU and he expects that, in time he will make a good earn from the Franchise.
