Are you guys serious talking about KB (Kurtley Beale) and JOC (James O'Connor)? Understandably, you chased them out of town and celebrated their departure.
This.

Those two and Cipriani were the first and biggest mistakes the club has made. Chased style and names over a long term culture.

I think we will see KB (Kurtley Beale) back for next year but most likely at the Tahs. There is no reason why Melbourne should not have been an instant success as a franchise. They have the city and the sponsorship to attract good players.
I have to say that maybe it is time to change the coach. Laurie Fischer or Link would be unbelievable if they could pull either one.

Who's the major sponsor?

They don't have one. However, they have an army of minor sponsors, occupying every other part of the playing kit that I can imagine.

A while ago Coxy said they weren't too concerned if they got one or not.

First part, well he does have a good point here. And we all know it. Porters five forces anyone?

The Coach? Hmm, no he's not doing a good job at the moment. Performance based industry, and the KPIs are getting smashed.

Note the last paragraph:

"We've got a tough draw, there's no question about that ... the season is more than two games and we would hope we're putting in place things to ensure we perform at a much better level on the park than we have been."

Getting a sense this is referencing the in-field leadership from yesterday's OZ article.

But every team has these minor sponsors and struggle financially. Major Sponsor/naming rights would be worth $1million - $1.5million...

Cox might not admit it, but it's a massive concern

I agree, and I think they should get one. He noted recently they "broke evenish" which indicates it's not about the cashola (for him at least). If anything, that sponsorship money can be invested directly into the local comp and player development.

I don't think it's just the Rebels problem, all teams struggle with revenue and sponsorship.

It's a reflection of how Super a Rugby engages with the public and how companies value the sponsorship value of the comp.

Mate, if they were making money he'd be screaming it from the tree tops.
I doubt very much that private owners would be eagerly throwing significant money into a local comp & player development when the main business is "breaking evenish "

DOR role anyone? its a very Northern Hemisphere thing but could be implemented here, esp at a privately owned franchise

My conspiracy mind was thinking that.
My conspiracy mind was thinking that Cox made a call around 3:30 on Saturday arvo with an offer impossible to refuse.

Lord Laurie: "Righto then. Just let me tank this game tonight and tweet my resignation. See you next week, boss."
