Agree with crows1 before blaming selectors best you check whether those players were nominated by their school/club

well i had no idea that the school put forward players to be selected but still for players like benroy michael and even lieam dunne who all three have played outstading footy this year for them not to be in a squad of 103 playes is crazy

understandably left out, hasn't been as good as previous years. however there are some interesting selections, alistair harper?

You got to drop any personal stuff - he is a good player rising up to the occasion at opens level, and at club level, i can confirm Harper is quite talented in the pack.

Given and Dalgleish pair up well in the backline, expect these two. Shame about Gilbert after his reports of a good season so far. Paraka will go good. Darkhorse is Hagen, not much has been spoken of him being an Under 15s, but i am told he is contracted to an NRL team and is extremely quick off the toe. Looks like a pretty good bunch, wonder how they will go compared to last years lot?

Some players might miss out due to birthdays - GPS cut off is October or thereabouts whereas state squads is start of year. So you might have a player playing under 16 in GPS but ineligible for state under 16 state squad.

it's not personal at all, tom mellor is a far superior hooker who actually played firsts

Media release from QRU:

Media Release: Queensland U16s announce train-on squad

Queensland Under 16s have announced a preliminary train-on squad of 103 players who will vie for selection in the two Queensland teams to compete at the 2011 National U16 Championships, to be held at St Ignatius Riverview in Sydney from September 25-30.

The National Championships are an important development pathway for Queensland’s best young talent and one of the first stepping stones for players wanting to play Rugby at an elite level.

The U16 program helps players develop their on-field abilities by testing themselves against the best players in Australia; but also aims to give all participants a better understanding and education of the off-field demands and challenges the modern professional game presents.

The Queensland selection process for the National Championships begins with the first of a series of trials this Saturday at Ballymore.

Selected players should email Queensland Rugby State Development Manager Rob Donaghue of their availability prior to Friday, August 5 on robert.donaghue@qru.com.au.

A trial and training schedule, along with a player information sheet, will be sent to the respective players’ schools this week.

Players participating in this week's first trial are to assemble at Ballymore at 8:00am on Saturday, August 6.

The train on squad resembles an electoral roll.
103 + players? nominated by the school? Every player wins a prize.
What a joke.

theres no pleasing you lot. First of all complaing about players not named now hatman is complaining about too many players named. Its a training squad. The idea is to give players the best chance of selection. And that is done by allowing them to compete against the players in their positions, not a papaer trial. Numbers are cut after each training weekend until they get down to their selected 46

A few suprises..

- Nudgee having twice as many as any other school (not really suprising but then again I fancy ACGS and maybe TSS for the premiership in 2012)
- Lack of BGS players and an over representation from TGS and BBC
- In terms of AIC, the lack of Ashgrove boys is pretty suprising but I have heard their focus on Rugby has gone to sh*t.. and St Edmund's with 6 in there is amazing.. They were once easy beats with meat headed mongos with little rugby talent but it seems they've really sorted out their rugby program, which is good because I always thought they had massive potential.. Wouldn't be suprised if they dominate AIC for a couple of years

I agree. However, the BBC U16A team did have a good season. Michael Gilbert and Lakehm Aiono are not on this list simply because of injury. So that might explain the lack of BGS players.

Do you mean didn't? They didn't win a single game..
