Queensland Reds 2025

A cautionary tale…

This new gear is a snug fit… I purchased the training shirt and it’s skin hugging.. I’d probably have to go up 2 sizes for it to fit
Cheers for the heads up - I was tossing up if I'd go an M or an L - think I'll go the L then

My early pre-season XV for 2025 (I'm bored at work):

1. Hodgman
2. Faesslar
3. Nonggorr
4. Smith
5. Salakai-Loto
6. Wright (cc)
7. McReight
8. Wilson
9. McDermott (cc)
10. Lynagh
11. Daugunu
12. Paisami/Henry (I prefer Henry but Paisami has the runs on the board so a toss up between the two)
13. Flook
14. Ryan
15. Campbell (Gordon to also get gametime with an eye to the future)

16. Nasser
17. Gibbon
18. Toomaga-Allen (De Luttiss to also get gametime)
19. Canham
20. Uru (Bryant and Brial to also get gametime)
21. Werchon
22. McLaughlin-Phillips
23. Goldsbrough (my bolter for the 25 season)

There will be injuries which will sideline some players, but for once it seems like we actually have some solid depth across all positions (especially in the forwards), so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the fringe players (Brial, Bryant, Fa'agase, Asiata, Blyth, De Luttiss, Gordon, Anderson etc) get significant minutes).
I like the team. Any thoughts on Henry at 5/8? I think he moved to inside centre because he had JOC (James O'Connor) and Issac Lucas ahead of him at 5/8.

Thats the way to show faith in your own development pathways and skills as coaches to build better players.
It kind of is though - signing another guy who'll be 30/31 when he arrives looks like it'll about backing Kingsley Uys as he comes through. Bringing in a mid 20's player would offer less help to him while also potentially blocking a guy who looks like a generational talent at this stage.

Interesting pickup, particularly to be announced so far out. Might suggest Hodgman or Fa'agase is gone at the end of the year. With Uys coming through the pathways it makes sense to focus on older, more experienced props at this stage. Having a few well seasoned pros to help his development and ease him in without blocking when the time comes is ideal.

Sef should have been parked up last year.

Just seems like a weird thing to go get when there are plenty around Brisbane already.

Surely Sef will either retire or be heading overseas?

While we won't see him this year, it's nice to see the great Australian player drain being reversed for once!
