It kind of is though - signing another guy who'll be 30/31 when he arrives looks like it'll about backing Kingsley Uys as he comes through. Bringing in a mid 20's player would offer less help to him while also potentially blocking a guy who looks like a generational talent at this stage.
Kingsley needs to go play club rugby and get games under his belt if you want him developed.

Hanging around a gym lifting weights and the training paddock will only get him so far.

He's a 17 year old coming through and playing plenty of age grade rugby already. Signings like this ensure he'll have time to get that club rugby in over the next few years without needing to be called on to warm benches and hold tackle bags early, while also giving him guys to learn from.

talking of young props, I’ll be interested whether Trevor King sticks with Tight Head or makes the switch to Loose Head.

I think it'll make sense for him to stick to the tight head side, particularly with Uys coming through behind him on the loose head side. It is a younger crop of tight heads at the Reds overall, but if Toomaga-Allen moves on in a year or two that'll leave a depth chart of Noggorr -> De Lutiis -> King, just as he's stepping up to super rugby. Should allow him to ease in the way De Lutiis is now, and hopefully not have to play too much super early. Not sure swapping to loose head will net him more game time if Hodgman and Gibbon are all still with the Reds alongside Ross coming in, though he'd probably leapfrog Blake pretty quickly.

from a positional opportunity perspective, it makes sense; from what I've seen, I'm not convinced his best position is THP, though. Frame and scrummaging ability: I think he might be better at LHP, but it depends on how he fills out.

George Blake is contracted through to the end of the 2026 season, how are they going to make this all fit. Even with Sef likely going they will have at loosehead Hodgman, Ross, Gibbon, Blake + some young 20s props waiting for a contract too. George might need to look elsewhere (Force).

Mate, being a part of the group I would have thought you'd be better placed to answer the question than us.

True, because it is what happens as opportunities arise. But right now the Brums look to be in just as strong a position with props coming through the system as well.
They are but those Props have mostly come from the NSW & QLD systems and I don’t see it shifting.

Naturally some won’t kick on the way we think they will as well.

Is he not captured by the NZXV game against Japan in 2023?
I don't believe they set the All Blacks XV to be their second XV until after that game, I remember seeing something about it at the time. I can't find it now, but it is somewhat backed up by the fact that Pita Gus Sowakula played that game despite having already signed with Clermont (and all the reporting stating he'll be eligible).
