Queensland Reds 2025

Time and a bit of luck. Your'e unlucky the first couple times but then returning too soon and you haven't recovered fully definitely leaves you vulnerable to another knock even a minor one setting you way back and then it's a vicious cycle.

Long term health and playing future should take the extra conservative approach so he does come back 100% and ready to resume a career.

Interesting take from Kalani after his excellent game against the Highlanders:

I think this is the 3rd or 4th player I've seen specifically call out the good work Hayley Cronin is doing at the Reds this season, as well as Les Kiss listing her alongside Davis and Hilton as one of his "key performance people". Great to see her having such a positive impact on the group, and that the QRU is really investing in broader support staff and getting a good return from it. It feels like an area we've lagged behind on in the past as far as pro sport goes.

I only heard it in passing on 9 News last night, but this article skips over part of his response that essentially said it was also frustrating to play limited minutes and that he wouldn't rule out looking for other opportunities as a result.

Understandable though, given the stage of his career and that - unless there's an injury or dramatic change in performance - he'll seemingly always be behind Tate in the pecking order. Like DC, pretty shocked to see he has 55 caps now!

It's a tricky one, part of that is the fact that he debuted really young, probably earlier than is ideal in most cases, so he's been given a taste but stuck cooling his heels at the same time.

I know there have been persistent rumours about him leaving every year that haven't come to much, but do expect we'll lose him pretty soon. He's good enough to start week in week out (though he still has plenty to work on), and the Force look to be in the market with White and Fines-Leleiwasa both at the back end of their careers. As far as I'm aware Tate does have an option for a sabbatical in his contract which would've given Kalani more opportunities, but it sounds like there isn't much in the market for 9s on a cash grab sabbatical right now.

We heard last week that the Force were looking at Teddy Wilson but with Gordon likely going I can see the Tahs locking him up long term as Jack grant is 32 as well. Next guy on the market who looks ready to start at the level is Thomas. He'd be a safer bet than Werchon if your'e the Force and if your'e RA I think you'd like the move for Thomas in regard to building more depth in the position nationally.

Either Thomas or Werchon are departing at the end of the year. I wonder when Werchon's contract is up, he's even stuck behind Thomas. Force would be the place that makes most sense for either of these blokes.

Risk v Reward for the Force. I rate Werchon from what Iv'e briefly seen and he can't command the same money as Thomas you wouldn't... so maybe the Force like that idea when you have your 10 in place. Thomas is the safer bet you would think but cost more given the experience

I reckon Thomas would go for sensible money. He's looking for opportunity more than anything.

That probably partially comes down to Fines-Leleiwasa on the Force side of things. You can expect White to take a step back next year (it sounds like he's keen to transition into coaching), but Fines-Leleiwasa is right on the edge of sticking around or cashing in age-wise. Kalani is the type to back himself to take the starter jersey, but he'll need to believe the Force (or anyone else) are seriously looking for a starter now, not just a back up to step up a couple of years down the track. Real money offers are often the best indicator of that.

I do think Fines-Leleiwasa will probably head over seas though, he has dropped right back out of the wallabies frame and will probably be able to get much more if he leaves. If he is gone then I'd expect either Kalani or Teddy Wilson to be wearing the 9 in Perth next year.

I reckon Thomas or Werchon would be mad not to back themselves over Fines-Leleiwas!
Gordon is gone next year and Teddy will be the Tah's main man next year. And looks like they've even got young scrumhalves to nip at his heels.
Surely RA would be trying to help distribute the depth around the super squads.

I wouldn’t throw significant money at any half back… as reg would say #EightyforTaty - there’s so many good young prospects running around club rugby you just need look for the ones who play multiple positions (Werchon, Kalani etc)

the one pure half back to keep an eye on is James martens over at GPS. He is going to be a special prospect

In the Reds article it states "Liam Wright is unavailable for this match", which in the absence about his injury status might indicate he is close to returning?
