Queensland Reds 2025

Some people will never be happy. There was absolutely nothing the Reds could do that was right in some whining eyes.

If it was a close game, people would be moaning that the Reds should have done better.

The Reds flog Bristol and it's we should never have played them.

I don't need to see another game against a Super side, we play those teams enough. And until WR (World Rugby) (World Rugby) sorts out a better global schedule the NH/SH teams will forever be out of whack on who's available.
Hiring Dick Graham was a master stroke

Haha shit man, some healthy debate over the quality of the opposition and value in playing a C-Team is pretty fair given the lineup Bristol put forward and final score line.

It gives real Firsts against Fourths opposed training run vibes.

Does it have value? Yes
Is it as valuable as a more competitive matchup? Probably not

I think the trip was somehow supported by BMS the sponsor, they are primarily UK company and have being doing BMS cross-promotion while over there… so hard to assess the financial viability of the tour without knowing those kind of details

watched the replay...

Positives
- McReight has picked up where he left off, lock him in for the Pilecki medal now.
- LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) looks primed for a massive year, he was running strong and controlled the lineout well.
- Nonggor & Lutis both look fit and strong at THP, should make for a good battle all season
- Lynagh showed suprising speed, his running and kicking were positives, his passing game was the weakest of the 3.

Negatives
- I'm not sold on Anderson on the wing,
- Canham is incredibly athletic but his tight game needs a lot of work before he is 'test-ready', and he plays a bit loose and pushes too many passes.
- Reds forwards defence on their own try-line was soft given quality of the opposition
- Reds backplay is all about playing flat, movement of the ball and running lines; i'm still concerned a phsyical/defensively tight backline is going to monster them defensively given the lack of size to get over the gainline.

But overall a little bit difficult to guage where they're at given the quality of oppositon.

Correct - Steve Moore and another half dozen BMS executives are essentially in camp with the team and on the whole tour and I believe have stumped up lions share of the costs via an additional sponsorship payment for this tour.

After years of mismanagement it really seems like the Reds are getting a lot right these days.

Could the same be said about both the cricket matches that finished early today too?

Question to the crowd - is Richie Asiata capable of overthrowing Fez as Qld’s no 1 no 2?

He seems to me to be the Isaac Henry of our forward pack - plenty of talent but keeps getting derailed by injuries.

But when he’s fit he seems to me to have all of the fundamentals of playing hooker plus a bit more size and power in his carries and tackles. From recollection his lineout throwing can be a bit sketchy at times but seemed on point at Bristol (although I do remember at least 1 low throw to 2 that I remember thinking a better defence would pick off. But only 1 I noticed).

Im a big fan of both Fez and Josh Nasser. I would actually have Nasser as my third Wallaby hooker at the moment in front of Polard but whilst I think both Fez and Nasser are extremely reliable I don’t think either can match the impact we see from sone of the world’s best hookers at the moment.

Interested in the views of others on here.

Unless there is injury I’d rather not see a huge rotation away from Fez and Nasser. The only way these guys go from good players to world class is by playing every game and honing their skills.

In saying that, with the Lions tour I imagine at least Fez will be asked to sit out 1 or 2 games potentially, which will open the door for Asiata to make a claim to second spot.

I might have some of the details wrong but the Reds were potentially close to losing Fez if COVID hadn’t hit. I believe Pup McCormack had flown him down to Randwick as he didn’t have a Reds deal. He was then included in the pool of bubble players available for selection when COVID hit and the Reds ended up needing him.

Interesting to think he potentially could have ended up at the Tahs or maybe even not gotten a crack at Super Rugby for a while yet had that series of events not taken place.
