Queensland Reds 2025

Bryant would be a huge loss for the future, I thought he was really good this year.

I am pretty certain his partner has a decent career here in Brisbane in some line of professional services (albeit they are both quite young), not saying that means he won't leave but I am sure if the opportunity was still at the Reds that would assist in his decision making.

I think Bryant is absolutely a target to be poached - I hope he stays but….

Liam Wright + Harry Wilson injury/Fraser McReight suspension opened the door for John Bryant getting a bunch of starts last year and the fact you can play him in all 3 backrow positions means I think he’d have a bit of value.

Definite priority signing for reds… (so too Trevor)
The other thing was Uru was playing almost exclusively in the row so Bryant was regularly in the 23.

Will be much harder next year with a few more quality players to fit in.

Agree he would be great to keep but he’d also attract interest elsewhere you’d think.

It will all have to happen soon if squads have to be finalised by the end of the month. Interesting times...

i just spied John Bryant on the reds socials

You’d think his well invested in reds plans for 2025. Otherwise a player of his calibre would probably already be on a jet overseas like the players who have already said good bye

Have heard it from 2 different sources now that the Reds are going to have a preseason tour to Fiji and play a MLR team as a trial. My understanding is it will be largely an Academy/development team they take over. Sounds a good idea and a great trip if true
Considering the team tours the UK in late jan/ early feb and then Super starts mid feb you'd think it would have to be a team of second stringers. But I doubt this is true. Why would they all send all there players away on the eve of the season and leave no injury cover?

Doesn't he look like a guy that would dominate in a Brumbies jersey. He just gives me that feel although with Cale and Valetini he faces a similar path as QLD.

Reds should sign him up as the heir apparent. Will not surprise me to see Wright head overseas post Lions tour. I hope not but salary cap squeezes happen and guys start looking out for their future financially especially when you have been so injured for years.

Kiss has apparently got a couple of old heads coming along for the tours this year. I don't think they'll be doing much more than travelling with the team and attending the games, but you can expect to see a few former QLD greats in and amongst it.

Yeah, I'd not be speaking ill of him if he received and accepted a remunerative offer elsewhere. He'd be missed, tho'.

I'll be most interested to see who's selected for the January NH mini-tour, esp. since I'll be going to watch.

The backrow is so legit at reds

Fraser, Liam and Harry as your starters

Bryant backrow utility
Uru backrow/second row utility

think Uru is going back to a bench role… we’ve upgraded our lock stocks but there’s most likely going to be a wallaby backrow/2nd row option not in the Matchday 23 who’s playing club rugby in 2025

Seems like there are more signings to come shortly:

It'll probably be mostly re-signings, but with squad announcements set for the end of the month I'm guessing it'll include some of the potential tourists to Japan who have been training with the squad, probably Mason Gordon at this stage, but it sounds like there are a few candidates in that group.

I really like the look of Joe Brial as well.

I never realised the size of Annan. How come he didn't get more opportunities? Are we really disappointed about losing him or he not too fussed? Wouldn't hate to keep some big centres.

Would love to have kept him but his relative place in the picking order means that I was resigned to losing him and Grealy if they found other opportunities, which they did. He wasn’t demanding selection or anything like that and whilst his size is valuable it’s not like he was doing a 2014 Kerevi.
