Queensland Schoolboy Trials are usually held in mid June to select two sides to represent Queensland at the Sebel ASRU Championships which will be held this year at St Ignatius’ College Riverview from the 28th June to 4th July 2015.

Typically there are two days of trials at Ballymore (probably 19 and 20 June this year) to select the Queensland teams for Nationals involving:
GPS1, GPS2, GPS3, AIC1, CSS, and Chairmans XV

This weekend (23 May) sees the first of the trials to select the 3 GPS teams at TSS, with a second trial to be held at Ballymore on 6 June.
2015 GPS Trial 1 – Saturday 23 May at TSS

River Field 1 – (Pool 1)
11.00am ACGS v BSHS (35 min half & 10 min break)
11.45am ACGS v BBC (35 min half & 10 min break)
12.30pm BBC v BSHS (35 min half)

River Field 2 – (Pool 2)
11.00am NC v GT (35 min half & 10 min break)
11.45am NC v IGS (35 min half & 10 min break)
12.30am IGS v GT (35 min half)

Boat Shed Field – (Pool 3)
11.00am TSS v BGS (35 min half & 10 min break)
11.45am TSS v TGS (35 min half & 10 min break)
12.30am TGS v BGS (35 min half)

Selectors meeting to follow at 1.50pm
Players will be informed by Thursday 28 May via their Head Coach/Director of Rugby if they have been selected for the second trial at Ballymore (on Saturday 6 June)

Any word on the trials/selection process for AIC, CSS and the Chairman's XV?

These players represented Australian Schoolboys last year as well as QLD I and must be considered automatic selections for Qld I this year if they are uninjured:

Prop - Gavin LUKA — St Joseph’s Nudgee College QLD I
Lock - Reece HEWAT — St Joseph’s Nudgee College QLD I

In addition to those, it is understood that all these young men who represented Queensland I, Queensland II or Combined States at the 2014 ASRU Championships are still at school this year and in all likelihood they should also be chosen this year:

Lock - Darcy TAIMUA-SWAIN, Brisbane Boys College, Qld I
Centre - Calvin PRITCHARD, St Joseph’s Nudgee College, Qld I
Loose Forward - Jack FARRELL, Brisbane Boys College, Qld I
No 8 - Agassi STOWERS, St Joseph’s Nudgee College, Qld II
Centre - Matthew SMIT, Brisbane State High School, Qld II
Fullback - Geoffrey ROBERTSON, Ipswich Grammar School, Qld II
Halfback - Reuben WALL, St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace, Qld II
Flanker - Martin KOORTZ Brisbane State High School, Combined States
Prop - Thomas O’TOOLE Padua College, Combined States

Anyone from 2014 National Championships who is back at School in 2015 not listed above?

Using the rule of incumbency, there are still plenty of gaps to fill for 2015:

Queensland I
1. LHP Gavin LUKA — St Joseph’s Nudgee College QLD I & Aust Schoolboys 2014
2. H
3. THP Thomas O’TOOLE Padua College, Combined States 2014
4. RL Reece HEWAT — St Joseph’s Nudgee College QLD I & Aust Schoolboys 2014

16. H
17. LHP
18. THP
19. L
20. BR
21. Half
22. IB
23. OB

Queensland II
1. LHP
2. H
3. THP
4. RL
5. LL
6. BSF
7. OSF
8. No 8
9. Half
10. Fly half
11. Wing
12. IC
13. OC
14. Wing
15. FB
16. H
17. LHP
18. THP
19. L
20. BR
21. Half

Anyone brave enough to fill the gaps, or to nominate some bolters to tip "the incumbents" out of their slots?

I'm not sure who will play QLD 2. A lot of CSS players make the run on team for QLD 2 and if I'm not mistaken the state champs was held in Townsville this month. I'm only guessing here but I've always assumed the CSS team was picked from this so if anyone has the team list who made it. However, I have a shortlist of players who I think are QLD standard.

Jack KELLY - St Patrick's College (AIC)
Justin SIKIMETI - St Patrick's College (AIC)
Archie TAYLOR - St Edmund's College (AIC)
Andrew RICHARDSON - St Edmund's College (AIC)
Josh FERNANDEZ - St Edmund's College (AIC)
Max BAKER - Villanova College (AIC)
Efi MA'AFU - Ipswich Grammar School (GPS)
Unga WOLSKE - Ipswich Grammar School (GPS)
Braden SCHILLER - Ipswich Grammar School (GPS)
Len IKITAU - Brisbane Boys College (GPS)
Campbell HALLIDAY - Brisbane Grammar School (GPS)
Sam WALLIS - Anglican Church Grammar School (GPS)
Daniel IOANE - St Peter Claver College (CSS)
Liam PAKAU - St Peter Claver College (CSS)
Tim TAVALEA - John Paul College (CSS)
Lachlan BELL - John Paul College (CSS)
Thomas MIKAELE - Redbank Plains State High School (CSS)

I'm sure there will be players from TSS and TGS, I just don't know any. Ikitau in my opinion will probably beat Smit but we will see what happens. He defiantly is capable of playing QLD 1 and I think selectors will be impressed with BBC and how they went in Japan.

These boys from ARU 7s squad should be in from Qld
1. Recce Hewat
5. Jayden Ngamanu

9. Dylan Riley
11. Kris Verivis
12. Liam Moseley

any others?

Word out of BBC is that Len Ikatau was their best player in Japan

Agassi Stowers has finished school.

Jacob Elordi isn't even in the Nudgee 1st's squad, so not sure he'll even be trialling.

Liam Moseley is Nudgee's No.1 fly half.

Tighthead prop is very good for Southport. Big and physical. No.8 would also be worth a shot. Can't see anyone else though really.

No. 3 (Ball) made GPS 2 last year. Based on last years form, I'd think 8 (Pere), 7 (Allen), 10 (Campbell) & 13 (Whitbread) would get into one of the 3 GPS teams. A few others might be a shot too, including the tall No. 5. Someone already mentioned Dylan Riley from the 7s squad.

One thing that stood out for me yesterday, is there a a lot of big No. 8s all playing well. Other players I noticed, for whatever reason*:
BBC - 2, 8, 9, 14
BGS - 8, 15
BSHS - 8, 9
Churchie - 11
GT - 9, 10 , 11
IGS - 15
NC - 10
TGS - 11, 14
TSS - 3, 8, 13

* Only saw a small fraction of one game for Churchie, NC, TGS

Finally, all games were very close, with the exception of maybe the BGS games (TSS really dominated the first 10 minutes, and I didn't see any of TGS v BGS). Can't take much from the results of each game, as there was very strong wind favouring one team each 'game', and that also made handling difficult (esp. kicks and long passes). Plus the usual mistakes being early in the season

Very difficult to pick as you say TSS I thought was good on defense but we're lacking out wide. I think TSS 13 is Riley, Whitbread was out with injury and did not play. TGS showed signs of strength in attack in the back line.

You are probably right, I just saw the headgear, and socks down, and assumed that's who it was. Yes, I don't think the outside backs will be as slick as last year, but who knows.

How do you pick from that trial?
Every second half back to back team goes down after winning first game.
Terrace expansive game a standout against Ippy.
Throw away last years form guide. Year 11 boys serious contenders.
Players to watch, Wall, Lucas 14 15 Terrace, 11 2 1 6 Ippy, Sippel 8 1 SHS, 10 9 22 both locks Churchie, 3 8 6 12 BBC.
Forward battle dominates the day, except for terrace where size did not matter!

BGS 3,5,9 and 13 would also have chances of earning a GPS spot. BGS beat TGS 24 to 7, a very convincing display from the Brisbane boys.

I approve your correction, there are quality players outside of GPS unfortunately most have been snapped up by GPS schools. Bias is not a issue here as everyone has an opinion.

To suggest that players who did QLD proud last year should be first up picks for this year is some what presumptuous and short sighted, Australian School boy reps, yes I can live with that call. This age group allows for big improvement from other contenders and the previous rep players, but also levelling in ability. I was able to watch a fair amount of the rugby at TSS yesterday and I suspect only several of the player listed as up front starts will be called up again in the first GPS squad. It must be said that to select from those trials is no small feat so going with a tried and proven player may not be a bad call.
From the talent on show I am very excited to follow the boys through to the Nationals and watch some out standing class on the paddock for the GPS comp.
