Albert is a great kid. I have had a bit to do with him and he is very hard working and keen to learn. I really hope that he makes it to the big time. Like Lance says he is one of those guys you just want to achieve at the next level.

I wonder if Higgers could play 8? Ideally Leroy will be fit as a bull and then he's our man, and he did put in some ripper performances this year. But Higgers at 8, perhaps David Dennis at 6 and then a couple of locks in Kev & Simmons/Horill/Byrnes makes a decent sized and mobile pack. Strong lineout.

I have just looked at the QRU web site. Very impressive - Morahan's call-up is already recorded in his profile.

Morahan has the physicals to be a fullback - 93 kg and 186 cm. I wonder what Robbie D is thinking?

As long as they can keep their heads some discipline, and enthusiasm, for more than two games.

loving the updated training pictures!
they looked like they are being drilled pretty hard, which is fantastic news.
it also very clear how much better condition chambers is in compared to the rest of the blokes, they should really take that on board and catch up with the conditioning as compared to the mungos.

as always i hate to get excited before a reds season but, as much as the forward pack is unknown there is a good depth of able blokes who just need to be sanded back into seasoned mountain men. simmonds need to kick on this year.

hopefully link is the bloke to do it.

daley looks hungry!

they are drenched aren't they? Understandable considering the heat/humidity.

Good stuff.

Leroy looks nicely shaped up for this time of the year. i'm excited by the red next year. Cooper, Hynes, Genia and Diggers will really bring maturity back from the tour. I've been really impressed with all them! would love to see the reds have a strong year :)

Didn't they have an arse-kicking preseason training regime a couple of years ago and then start the season really flat? People blamed the training for taking it out of them, which I found strange at the time, given they trained during the day, and played at night...

From what i remember that was this year. they had smoke machines and everything. gave me quite a giggle.

Doing the really heavy fitness and gym stuff now is fine up until about Feb then it should be simple maintenance of strength and fitness - however in the past the Reds fitness gurus have continued the heavy strength and aerobic conditioning right into the S14 season hence the players are stuffed on a regular basis.
A decent days strength and conditioning should stuff you for a couple of days and that's another thing they seem to get wrong - there seems to be no real allowance for recovery particularly after heavy strength sessions and repeated sessions while already fatigued is actually counter productive and reduces muscle mass and strength - eg: Caleb Brown is a great example and if you look at Reds performance over the past few years it is pretty clear the are playing in a prolongued state of fatigue.

Why not Higgers at 8. Isn't that where he normally played for Wests? (He was captain for a while there too, wasn't he?)

Did you deliberately exclude Horwill from having learned on the tour?

if what your saying about the lack of professionalism is true re; our conditioners than that really aggravates me. It annoys me so much how inefficient we have been as a club for so long/ bordering on amateur, and that is not an overstatment.

hopefully this new mob will be different, they have the runs on the board to suggest they mean business.

apparently our new conditioning coach is a bit of a gun, but i reckon the bloke we really want is jason weber the old wallabies conditioner currently working with the dockers. that bloke is a cyborg.

or that bloke the broncos had, dean benton. actually scrap that, I wish the whole broncos organisation moved to balleymore and whipped the show into gear, they dont accept failure.

Dean Benton is one of the best, however at the time there were too many at the Reds with their own agenda and he really didn't fit in where so many others had an input into the program in addition to his.
Imagine an organisation where there are three or four of everything, all doing their own bit in order to gain favour and none communiv=cating or working with the others for fear of being shown up. Hence massive over training and fatigue and a squad that actually retreats in firness, strength and speed.
I would have Dean and only Dean if I had the choice.

Eddie Quirk was probably the form Number 6 in Premier Grade this year. I think it would be a crime if he missed out on game time.

Very big lad, good pace for a backrower and tons of agression. Could be a surprise selection for the Reds in 2010 if his development keeps going like it has. Looked very at home in Brisbane Premier grade this year.

I think the big issue for the Reds next year is not which players from the main squad are vulnerable to poaches, they have a few good'uns in the Academy. Apart from Quirk, they have Jake Schaatz, James Slipper and Andrew Shaw, all handy forwards who will put pressure on the top team.
