After the latest test performances, all of a sudden the reds options in the backs for 2010 look infinitely brighter. A number of backline combinations could be used.

9. Genia 10. Lucas 11. Morahan 12. Cooper 13. Ioane 14. Hynes 15. McLinden

or

9. Genia 10. Cooper 11. Morahan 12. Turinui 13. Ioane 14. Hynes 15. McLinden

don't look too bad for starters, and if Chambers makes the transition early, he is the ideal cover for the outside backs.

Berrick who?

They had decent backs last season, they need the pigs to step up

Quite right FP. Mine was more a comment on the 'end of the world' commentary following the announcement that Barnes was heading to the Tah's.

Piggies will definitely be the area of concern for the Reds next year. Hopefully the likes of Simmons and Weekes will step up, and Leroy Houston ramps up his fitness and involvement.

1. Holmes 2. Hardman 3. Weekes 4. Horwill 5. Byrnes 6. Higginbottom 7. Braid 8. Houston doesn't look too bad as a starting Eight.

Jeez Greg Holmes is nearly the forgotten man of Oz rugby after that injury layoff. That is a handy forward pack tho speccy.

I think QLD has the right forwards there, they just havent been trained properly the last few years...

In the prop department, QLD are really the darkhorse, you have guys like Holmes who should really be hitting his prime in 2010, Weeks and Edwards have proved themselves competent additions, but IMO the real excitment lays younger blokes like Ben Daley, James Slipper and Paul Alo-Emile. Slipper and Alo-Emile might have a couple more years of development ahead of them, but they are surely ones to keep a eye on.

Hooker, i suppose its been done to death, 2010 will surely be the last of Hardman, QLD really need either Fainga'a or Hanson to step up, i think McKenzie might be able to really help out here.

Locks, Horwill is the mainstay and the choice is who will partner him, Van 'benjamin button' humphries who is looking fitter then ever, or somone younger like Byrnes or Simmons.

Blindside is a hard one, Luafutu, Tomeki and Higginbotham are all capable of filling that spot, Higgintbotham showed real potential in 2009, if he continues his upward development he will be on the wallaby bench in 2010.

Braid and Houston sit relatively unchallenged, i which there wer competition for these spots but its a real weak link in the Reds pack, maybe one of the younger blokes like Shaw or Shatz might get some runs, but they arent yet capable of starting.

I think Ezra Taylor offers a lot more than Houston. I thought he really improved as the 2009 season went on. Was more direct with ball in hand and adds another lineout option.

I am also expecting a lot from Hanson. Didn't see him in the APC but he does everything required when playing for Uni to look like he belongs at the next level.

if Ezra can play a full season without gettin injured i will be impressed, i honestly think that Ezra was a bad signing considering we already had one injury prone blindside in McMenimen

on the topic of the Reds, are these the new jerseys for 2010 or just a intermediate design?
someone should tell Lucas to get a haircut as well

They are the new ones I believe. They are also wearing red shorts to go with.

wow, red shorts aye, i suppose matching attire might help startle the opposition

i like the jersey, simple yet practical...

also ive thought of a great sponsor following QR, Red Bull..... imagine the Red Bull Reds

I'm a fan of that. The Red Bull Reds. I definitely think they should seek to that sponsor. Beats QLD rail.

I like QR specially the free travel. Don't think red bull would be that interested in the reds.

i think you will find that the travel to and from matches is actually built into ticket prices, its a agreement which has been reached with stadiums qld and qld transport and it will happen regardless of who the sponsor is.

Yeah a cut from each ticket covers the transport. Poor Lucas I just don't believe he's a Super 14 number 10. And with Kingi being on the Wallabies tour I'd say his place in the team could be under review. Cooper will be the 10. They have the back line. But Houston really needs to sort himself out if he really wants to be a player, needs to focus and assess his priorities. Hopefully McKenzie can do something about the forwards the front row isn't too bad, having Braid in the team is helpful. But I really hope the 2nd rowers can perform, failure consistently from them, could really result in a few problems.

McKenzie has already had one crack at fixing Houston. See where that ended - transported to the Reds :) :).

who has the rookie contracts for 2010? I think Andrew Shaw has one, and I have been told than Toua has been dropped from the main squad so I assume he has one. Can anyone else shed any light?

Houston, this is Tranquility Base. We have a problem.

good point Tranquility, i have high hopes for Toua but he has been consistently injured, it seems a odd move to drop him from the main squad into the academy squad

tran,

yeah, Toua is missing which is unfortunate.

I reckon the rookies are:

Luke Morahan and Blair Connor.

Andrew Shaw is just academy.

Not positive on Connor, but his bio on the QRU site says "Blair graduated from the QAS Reds Academy ranks in 2009, after being groomed through the ARU, QRU and Norths development programs."

So I'm thinking he had an academy contract this year, and rookie next.

Hanson might be on something similar?

I guess Chambers is a rookie too, although he wouldn't be paid as such.

i think its a real shame that Connor is in the squad ahead of Toua, i dont think Connor has what it takes to make it at S14 level, whilst i think Toua has potential to be a Wallaby
