Qld Premier Rugby 2024

This has been covered ad nauseam across so many different rugby forums.... you should know the reason by now.

Other than not having the test match at all (not an option) - there was literally no other time this could have been played.

The scheduling of fixtures is mostly controlled by the broadcaster (9) who also have the NRL and the Olympics. The Olympics understandably take precedence, and NRL broadcast contract is rock solid - so it rules out having it Thursday/ Friday night or Sunday afternoon. Channel 9 would also care less about community sport than the commercial value of their product/ ratings, so putting it on at the same time as any of the above on a secondary channel isn't an option.

Saturday afternoon is the only time it can happen. QPR clubs have extended a wonderful olive branch in moving their fixtures, unsure if GPS schools can do the same but sounds like they can't either (understandably considering they have 5-10 fixtures per age group playing across multiple fields on a singular day).

There. Covered. Done.

Looks like the reds might be holding out their players from club rugby due to the Friday game vs wales.

im not seeing the star power in team lists that was named last week across the comp.

I’m now looking forward to the Women’s Artistic Swimming from the Paris Aquatic Centre at 7:30pm that night before I switch over to the velodrome to catch the Women’s Sprint Quarter Finals. Although it’s going to be a tough choice with the Men’s Taekwondo 80kg Bronze medal fight on at a similar time.

Thanks Channel 9/Stan for making our Saturday night so compelling.

Tips tomorrow:

Brothers over Sunnybank. The filth to bounce back from an average start last week. Filth by 20+

Norths at home is tempting. The Eagles are on a mini-roll but Wests should want it more with a spot in the semis on the line. Bulldogs by a penalty goal.

Cannot see the Tigers troubling UQ who will win this easily after their 2nd half fade last week. Brothers put 50 on Easts recently. Not sure if UQ has the killer instinct to do the same but they will win by 14+

If the real Bond turn up, they could end GPS final hopes. Pressure on the gallopers at home. GPS by 7.

Still doesn’t explain why the competition round bye was two weeks ago instead of being on 10 August??

Plenty of Rebels and a few Force still running around this week though - Gibbon, Dobbins, Smith, Faifua, Maiava, Mason Gordon and David Vaihu all named.

Any other non reds names stand out as missing? Story going around that Will Cartwright has been called into the reds as halfback cover against Wales, sounds like a few more might have been too, but no other names were given.

The only 9 they have left is Werchon as Tate is with the wallabies and Thomas is injured. Not a bad call O’Reagan from Norths would’ve been another decent option as from what I’ve seen he is playing decent footy.

Agreed. Great turnout and atmosphere down at Norths today for two great clubman Fitzgibbon and Jordan Luke. Please get behind Jordan in any way you can - shoutout to Brothers players their names feature generously among donors already.

Everything will be sorted next week with Souths hosting UQ & Wests hosting GPS. These will tell who finishes top 2 and potentially decide who plays finals.
