QLD Premier Rugby 2021

A couple of very entertaining games on the weekend - I haven't watched much Hospital Cup simply because of time constraints, and the speed of the games made good viewing. Bulldogs will be ruing a poor second half where their reserve forwards ran out of puff very quickly and presented opportunities near the ruck for sniping.

If Wests can get that aspect of their match management sorted , they are a real chance. Their ruck defence in the second half of games this year has presented way too many opportunities for opposing teams, nice way of saying it's been poor. A lot of line-up changes throughout the year , maybe a few short of a run. Guess that's downside to your regular squad missing out for Super Rugby players during the season, that then don't play finals.

It was happening during the year though, the stand out having 43 points put on them in the second half against UQ when they were competitive up until half time but ended up 53-7.

From an outsider's point of view , it looks to be a matter of fitness, that at least is fixable with the right attitude.

I am yet to hear from a Wests supporter who has been humble in defeat yesterday. Instead of finding things to blame, how about analysing why your team gave up a 24 -3 lead with a backline that was cutting GPS to shreds and had three Super Rugby players in it.

Also I don't think the Wests supporters group has been hard done by - geographically the closest club to GPS, the 12min drive from Sylvan Rd isn't exactly a challenge, there were plenty of supporters there.

Taking a loss isn't easy, but do you think the players in the change room would be blowing up about the venue after the game? No, they probably cared more about how they let that game slip away.
Well done GPS. Following your logic it would be OK if the GF was played at UQ. It's only a 15min drive which isn't exactly a challenge for GPS supporters and there will be plenty of supporters there. Venue isn't important to the players.

If the QRU had said the final was at UQ then fair enough. In Super Rugby AU, the highest placed teams host the semi-finals and the Grand Final. That could have been the precedent they used this year if they wanted.

Like I keep saying, Wests supporters were plenty chirpy down at the club when they were up 24 -3, no mention of home ground bias then, before the team went to shit. Going 0/5 on the weekend hurts, but no need to get petty.

Questioning the home ground advantage is not being petty at all, QRU should have swapped to venues for Prems and Colt 1. Super Rugby is irrelevant given that it is part and parcel of the format and agreed upfront.

Do you seriously believe that GPS would be OK if the venue was changed to UQ? I don't think so.

I think it is all a null argument. Where were the droves of West’s supporters commenting on here PRIOR to the game being played? If the result had been different would you still be posting about the venue?

Were West’s management so upset with the venue allocation to lodge an offical request for the venue to be changed?

I think it’s time for everyone to move on from the venue issue as it is taking away from a great win. GPS had to kick a goal from the sideline to make the GF, that’s pretty special and shows what a good game it was.

What does Matt Gicquel have to do to get noticed! He even wears orange headgear!!
Can’t work that one out. He needs a Super Rugby opportunity. We keep breeding 7s in Australia. Reds and Brums are stacked in the back row, Tahs have got Hooper and Tizzano, if anything the Force could do with a specialist 7, if Tizzano decides to stay at the Tahs.

JD has slimmed down a fair bit and is nowhere near as bulky after his hamstring comeback. Bro 3 has size and can run a ball but scrummaging is consistently poor. Granted Pistol Pete is Bigger th

Brothers definitely had more strategic size weapons and just couldn’t capitalise.

Anyway…for the fact I’ve already tipped against Easts in the Semi tells you what my answer to your question is for the GF . I still think they are rubbish and Jeeps by at least 10.
1. I thought that this is the QPR thread?
2. Why do GPS contributors to this thread continually talk their club up and disparage other clubs on this forum?
3. objectively a team (Easts Colts) that finishes minor premiers and holds their semi final opponent to nil needs to be given some level of respect.
4. GPS for me are a club that are good at getting to GFs but not so good at winning them, and maybe they need to show more respect for their opponents.
For me go Uni in Prems & Easts in Colts & Women’s.

That will do me a GPS supporter preaching humility!!!
I respectfully believe that you need to look in your own back yard and stop bagging other clubs.
The Yoku Rd way is not the only way to run a club.
I would like to acknowledge the great achievement by the GPS club to be playing in all 3 games at Suncorp on Sunday.
I hope your sides in victory or defeat can practice what you preach - humility.

Wests were quite happy to bring Elwee Prinsloo into their Prem Grade coaching box though? Maybe a bit of the 'Yoku Rd' way is filtering into the Bulldogs.

This whole thread has been dominated in the last week by bitter West's supporters throwing every excuse under the sun out for why their club let a 24-3 lead slip away and lost their best chance of a Premiership for the next decade.

We'll leave it there.

you should go back and see the posts from Sunday arvo onwards. By far the busiest poster has been you. In fact I think it was you who was the first person to post after the game and it wasn't a celebration of GPS win it was having a go Wests and their losing. In fact there were only a couple of posters I could see who were really throwing excuses about Wests, but they were way outnumbered but your posts complaining about wests supporters and how the Bulldogs choked.

Come on mate you're better than this, by my count so far it's 4 Wests supporters who've had a crack at either the grounding of a ball, the home ground advantage or ref decisions that apparently cost Wests the game. I'm responding to them all, so of course I'm going to have the most posts.

I haven't said anything out of line. Haven't brought up the 'culture' of Wests like some other posters are doing for GPS.

If you're here to moderate the chat, moderate the rubbish excuses coming from the Wests guys.

My mother always said that it was important to be a good loser but it was even more important to be a good (humble) winner.

If you did a count of the whingy/whiny posts by club supporters on this forum over the years GPS would win this category every year. Congratulations on that level of consistency!!

Probably time to move on there is not a team that can take the high moral ground on being a good winner or loser.

The GPS crowd has had its issues this year but lets focus on the rugby and that is the greatest thing about the QPR is the passion as long as it does not get out of hand.

The GF will be a cracker of styles lets talk about that.

I though Cullin Cooper-Jones looked sharp when he came on at half-back for Josh Vuta, if only for a few minutes.
Not that Vuta did anything wrong, a fan of both.

Both went to school on the Gold Coast, but not through the usual GPS pathway. (All Saints and Somerset Coillege)

I don't think it can be understated how important Hansen and Moore have been/will be for the Uni side.

I think the undoing in big games for UQ in the past has been getting a bit overawed when the oppostion comes in to bully them during the big moments. UQ have been doing the bullying instead during the big moments this year.
