QLD GPS Rugby 2019

Nudgee will get up this weekend. It’s going to be a close one with BBC up at half time and ours boys bringing it home by 1 converted try in the last 15 minutes.

BBC were very flat last weekend against TGS, they seem to be still hurting after that loss. BBC will find it hard to beat a Nudgee side who’s peaking at the right time. If BBC don’t make any changes the Nudge will run away with this one

Does anyone have info on the nudgee number 1 I noticed him playing well against Ipswich and TGS but he was missing against BGS.

And how much has it cost $ them??

I suggest TSS, Nudge and BBC form their own Scholarship Division next year and play each other 3 times and maybe then BBC might get a return for their investment finally.

Don't they say the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and getting the same outcomes but still expecting a different result ?

Nudgee offer substantially less scholarships than Grammar, Churchie etc. In fact Nudgee only started offering sporting scholarships in the mid 1980s to counter the level of scholarships being offered at Churchie and Grammar through the 1970s. They are just very good at rugby because of the rugby culture there. Think New Zealand v England...its the culture, not the money.

I suspect BBC might get up this weekend (if they have a kicker. Zero chance without one). I've been really impressed with them this year and they were really let down by their coach who gave them no chance v TSS without a kicker. Both my Dad and I watched the game (him at Miskin, me on Doubletake Sports overseas) and both Nudgee old boys...how often does that happen?! It will be a great game and still either team will know they can be premiers when they come off the field if they hear that TSS have been knocked off by Ippy. TSS should belt Ippy, I'd say by 40 points but we haven't had a big upset match this year and there must be a very small chance of this being the one and TSS having a shocker and Ippy putting it all together for one match.
The other games are pretty pointless, but Churchie seems to be coming along well now, and if in the very small chance Ippy beats TSS, then the last game between Churchie and Nudgee at Ross will be a cracker.
State High v Grammar...I predict a total student crowd of less than 100...State High to win. Grammar to reassess their place in the GPS.

Nudgee have always been, and always will be one of the best rugby schools in Australia.

I do think a big boarding population has always been advantageous as well as the whole angry catholic thing (does anyone have numbers regarding boarding numbers at GPS schools).

If I had gone to Nudgee, I am sure I would probably have ended up carrying the water bottles out for the 27thXV as opposed to my reality of playing in the lower grades at BBC and being ritualistically led like lambs to the slaughter once every year against these kids.

Scholarships belong on another thread (don't ban me but I am going to go on for a little bit here) and it is definitely a legit conversation for that thread.

All I will say here, is that anyone who has been around long enough knows that every school has done it, do it, did it, or continue to do it...etc to a lesser or greater degree. Regardless of whether it was called a scholarship or something else.

Hoping for a BBC win this week of course, but also I am hoping to see a beautiful game of schoolboy rugby full of passion, talent, and a cliff hanger ending that leaves me with a tear in my eye, whoever wins.

Beating Nudgee at Ross is like defeating the All Blacks at Eden Park. A rare moment.. like a comet that passes by every couple of decades, for most schools it is quietly celebrated by old boys.

Good luck to both teams, and all teams this weekend (except TSS of course....)

You know what, if you are from TSS have a few beers this Friday night fellas, and don't worry about IGS this weekend...you have won already and IGS have nothing to play for anyway at this point.

BBC Vs NC - Draw cant think who will win
ACGS VS TGS - ACGS by 10
BSHS Vs BGS - BSHS by 10
TSS Vs IGS - TSS by 30

Some big games in the 2nds this week with ACGS Vs TGS and BBC vs NC. ACGS, TGS & NC undefeated so far and BBC one loss I think.

BBC beat TGS 2’s 15-14 last weekend, they’ve also lost two games not 1, they lost to Terrace in round 2. 2nds comp is always pretty up in the air with everyone coming up and down from 1sts

My thoughts re the TSS v Ippy game are that TSS will be very nervous in the first half (like they were v Nudgee and BBC) and whilst Ippy will be playing for pride, they will be more relaxed, which I think will suit their slick back line play. They will be up at half time.

TSS will go to work in the second half and they should be able to over power Ippy in the second half, but if luck doesn't go their way, it might be a very interesting final 35 minutes.

I'll have both the Nudgee/BBC game and the Ippy/TSS game open on my screens, and I'm hoping the second halves in both teams are nail biting games.

Come on Ippy!

QRU excludes powerful player agent

The strained relationship between powerful player agent Anthony Picone and the Queensland Rugby Union has finally reached breaking point, with the QRU deciding to negotiate contracts directly with his players, excluding him from all talks.

The decision of Picone-managed Samu Kerevi to join Japanese club Suntory Sungoliaths on a three-year contract following the World Cup, a deal the QRU and Rugby Australia felt they had little opportunity to counter, is understood to have been the straw that broke the camel’s back.

The QRU and RA always believed that even as they were conducting talks with Picone about Kerevi’s intentions, the Sungoliaths somehow had a headstart on the Queensland captain’s services
You have got to be kidding??

One of the top players agents and they try and cut him out. If I was a talented player here in QLD, I would love to have him on my corner. No way the Reds care about players enough. They are heavily conflicted as their focus is, and has to be, on the Reds machine. We need a system where the agent is involved. How can a 18,19 or 20 year old be sure they are being fairly treated!!
QRU is apparently offering contracts far and wide for low number. Not to get them in the Ref, but to keep them from elsewhere. How is that good for rugby??
