interesting season so far and things are tighter than expected in the middle. looking at the remaining games I think nudgee can win outright or share it with tss if they don't . down the bottom end I cant see state high winning a game or if they do it will only be a one off. same with grammar. and in the middle toowoomba and ippy look like they could lead the rest. outside of nudgee im expecting toowoomba to provide the biggest threat to tss

Good to see that there is a bit of love for our Country Cousins amongst the punters

I reckon TSS will end up with the W , however , TGS are actually a pretty good match up for TSS and have a few bases covered with Tim Faingaanuku and Will Chaffey in the set piece , Dougal Gray on ball and Ronin Hassell providing ball carrying power at 8 - I really like the TGS pack's prospects over TSS - especially at home up on the Range.

The question is : Have TGS got anyone that can rip a backline apart the way that Kapi or Samuela can - or have they got the dual game management coming from Jeans and Parata in the halves ( probably fair enough to say the best halves combination in GPS Rugby )

Everyone loves an Underdog and an upset would be great for the overall interest in the competition - but I think TSS have got this one

Garry - the game is at TSS this year. I don't know their names but there are a couple of TGS outside backs who have Jangala like elusiveness when I watched the Downlands game. Parata for TSS kicked the ball in general play 16 times against Churchie and 14 times against High so the game plan seems fairly defined. Kick for field position and then the big TSS forwards rumble to the try line. The TGS buys have great camaraderie and spirit and will not die wondering but I concede TSS must start as favourite. TGS also have a great place kicker who kicked the winning conversion from the sideline after the full time siren against Ippy.

Looking forward to this week's games!

Our streamed game will be BSHS v GT, live and free from the South Brisbane colloseum. Check the DoubleTake Sports facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DoubleTakeSports.AU/) from 2:05 for the link. The commentary team from NC v GT will reprise their roles.

Disappointing that BBC have their bye week just as the race for leading try-scorer is heating up.

NC's Jangala Bennet (5), BBC's Xavier Savage (4) and TSS' Ronan Kapi (3) are leading the stakes, but don't discount TGS No.8 Ronin Hassall, who went within a bee's dick of consecutive hat-tricks on Saturday. His official count is two tries, but at this rate he'll add some more and in a hurry.

I wrote a column on the subject here: https://www.couriermail.com.au/spor...y/news-story/3a790bed67b6ef3b417bfa744c566da1

Enjoy the weekend everyone and to the players ghosting on the forum, stay safe!

NC v TSS at Ross Oval in the last round. Still a bit of footy to play yet though and think it might come down who’s 10 manages to get through the season .

Pasitoa was flawless against GT last week in both his general and place kicking , and his game management was spot on . NC had multiple injuries in the first half and the lads who came on didn’t miss a beat . Don’t think it would have been the same story with a replacement 10. He kicked 7 from 7 against 2 from 6 for GT , take out the 2 first half intercepts and you have a one point game , still in NC’s favour . Harry Vella was named Man of the Match for NC in the post game function and his work around the field and leadership were brilliant, but Pasitoa was the major difference in the two teams.

Haven’t seen any of TSS yet this year, but as we all know , the only game TSS lost last year Parata came off after 10mins .

Good luck to all and would like to reiterate the King’s comment , hope all players stay safe.

Great article King.
So is 17 tries the record?Surely someone in that BSHS of 2008?(who put over 60 on several schools) beat that .Or did Chris FS etc share it around ?

I've done a fair bit of homework on the subject, and could only find details from the last five years + 2000. Because there was such a dearth of information out there I hedged my bets and said it was 'one of the highest'. I'm pretty confident 17 is the single-season record.

The problem with superteams like TSS '07, BSHS '09 and Churchie '14 is that there are usually only so many opportunities to finish per game, and when you have stars lining up from everywhere, no one player is taking all those chances to score.

Churchie's Brodie Croft led his team in scoring with 10 in 2014, but Izaia Perese, Jaydn Su'a and Kalyn Ponga all scored around that mark too. There wasn't room for one guy to score 15, 16 ,17+ tries to have a crack at Elsom's supposed record.

Here's hoping Savage and Bennet, and Ronin Hassall for what it's worth, can keep up their scoring form!

2017: Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, BGS 15 - 14 tries
2016: Will Eadie, GT 14 - 13 tries
2015*: Harry Hockings, ACGS 5 (~13), Reece Hewat, NC 8 (~11), Brodie Croft, ACGS 10 (10)
2014: Brodie Croft, ACGS 11 - 10 tries
2013: Currently tied with 9 (Campbell Magnay + Matt Gibbon), but I'm checking TSS' Isaac Nathan right now.

2000: Rocky Elsom, NC 8 - 17 tries

* One of Hockings' teammates told me he beat Croft with 13 tries in their Premiership season, but I've not got it confirmed and wouldn't put it past the teammate of trying to fudge the record to embarrass the very shy Hockings! Reece Hewat thinks he scored 11, and Croft is certain he scored 10. Still trying to nail down the final details

Seconds full-time: TSS 12 d TGS 7 - not actually at the game.

BSHS 27 - GT 22 in the seconds. Really tough game and well fought both sides. Not sure there should of been a winner.

GT up 25-7 in the firsts, GT hooker with a Hattrick. A bit dodgy his third try, but the touchie gave it the thumbs up. BSHS could get walloped here.

Watching TSS v TGS. TJ report against #1 TSS. Ref comes back and says 'clear stomp'. Any legal eagles out there to clarify- that should be a red card for a 'clear stomp'?? Ref went yellow. Weak decision perhaps?

It’s stamping under the law, and it’s a red. Includes an automatic week off too. But with no red given, may not be a week off. Up to the school I think.
