So the 2016 GPS Rugby Season is at an end.

So here is how the "Whole of School" premiership would look:
1. GT - 175.5
2. NC - 175.0
3. BBC - 162.0
4. TGS - 143.5
5. TSS - 125.5
6. BSHS - 118.5
7. IGS - 115.0
8. ACGS - 96.5
9. BGS - 56.5

I think this is a pretty fair summary of the GPS rugby. GT and NC always a strong thanks to their depth with GT just getting over their cross town brothers thanks to the 1stXV yesterday. BBC continue to build their depth across all ages and will soon challenge the title of number one rugby school. TSS and TGS are always a threat especially at home while State High and IGS suffer from a lack of depth, while Churchie and BGS are working on rebuilding that depth.

Great season and congratulations to al the boys across their age groups and grades, well done all the best in 2017. And maybe the GPS Heads will look at a Whole of School Premiership to reward all the boys not just the 1st XV as they do in rowing.
State High won 3 out of the 6 'A' team premierships. 12's, 14's, and the 1st 15. They may lack depth but appear to be doing something right.

Hello all, what A season of Rugby, great shout out to Double take for great job and the commentary, was great for extended family all around the world to be able to watch.

I was at Igs and BBC game yesterday and was horrified at behaviour of bbc. I know you are all going to boo hoo me and think I am just picking on BBC, but just let me show these points and you make your own mind up.

Remember I am just a punter but a punter that believes sport is a great way to shape and influence young men as they prepare for the real world.

1/ BBC boys injured asked to move behind ropes were rude and belligerent to Ipswich Staff
2/ One of Coaching staff stood behind the posts swinging umbrellas as kicker was taking penaltys, did it twice
3/ Boys in vehicles in areas they should not have being doing burnouts on the grass as they left ripping up grass. BBC teacher chased after them and they ignored the teacher. Mates of the driver cheering on, this all visible from the main seating area, and marks left are significant. I am sure grounds men will be upset.
4/ Igs boys sitting for 15 minutes at afternoon tea, waiting for BBC boys who lingered up in their own time
5/ bbc boys turn up to afternoon tea with no shirts on, just blazer over the top of bare upper body.
6/ What makes me the most upset was seeing IGS mums preparing great food, hot food, having to wait around whilst bbc boys took their time and food went cold. Was very disrespectfull.
7/ Even BBC parents were urging their boys to hurry up to no avail

I know a lot of you young men will struggle to understand this, But Can I tell you that manners and respect for an invitation to someone's house or fields is not a lot to ask. I really hope BBC hierechy understand this and Rectifiy.
And let me compliment the IGS hospitality. Every time I visit that school I am impressed with the politeness and friendliness of both the students and the parents.

This table simply reflects depth and not performance. How can winning a first 15 premiership be put on par with winning an under 11's c game.

BSHS current student population are 55 percent girls.

They have no under 11 students.

So straight away they are disadvantaged and it is like comparing apples to oranges.

If you are trying to compare rugby programs, have you included the BSHS girl sevens rugby program that has won many national and international games and has produced many current Australian seven rugby players and gold medal winners

Have you included that BSHS girls teams won every division in the SEQ competition finals on the weekend??

Just because the Penrith Panthers won the NRL under 20's does not make that club as successful as the NRL premiers - the North Queensland Cowboys.

I am just saying that your table does not reflect a full picture.

Because this table is about the performance of the school through multiple teams across multiple games. Nobody is saying the 11c's are as important as the 1sts, in fact it is even weighted as such, but what it is saying is the ability of some schools to produce so many players who can play to a reasonable standard in lower teams and not just A's. School's are more than just the 1sts.

As for State High they have more students overall than all other schools so it's not as if they have half the numbers to choose from. They are just unable to put out the depth of teams as GT and NC which in turn often produces better B, C, D teams. It also doesn't include the other BSHS programs because we are focusing on GPS Rugby.

16’s
Another 16s title to TSS, does anybody else but NC or TSS ever win this one. TSS suffered 1 loss for the season a heart breaker to GT and are deserved title holders – looks like another preseason ‘paper premiership’ for the Coasties in 2017. The real premiership though will have plenty of contenders if the 16’s is any guide. ACGS were good all year losing to TSS by 6 and TGS by 5, NC had their moments found TSS, ACGS too tough early, but finally at full strength hammered GT in the final round while TGS suffered losses to GT by 2 and TSS in the first round. GT suffered a tough loss to ACGS and then seemed to run out puff with comprehensive losses to BBC and NC in rounds 8 and 9.

Let’s not forget BBC who just couldn’t get over the line against any of the top contenders until they pretty handily accounted for GT ending their title hopes in round 8. Losses to TSS, TGS, NC and ACGS justifiably make the GT win an ‘upset’ but they competed in every game and will, as always, be there abouts in 2017.

So who do I think wins in 2017 – GT of course, but I am sure a few people will mount strong arguments for TSS or NC or ACGS or TGS or maybe even BBC – I’ll go on record and say it won’t be BGS or IGS and unless half of the 2016 BSHS team are back you can just about put a line through them as well.

15’s
Well the title resoundingly went to NC with a stellar unbeaten season that I certainly did not see coming. BBC remain classy, competitive and no 2 to me. I would like to see the video of NC V BBC match not sure how they lost that one. GT were, as always, effected by immersion and without it could mount arguments for why they would have beaten BBC and maybe NC. One thing we do know, they’ll be tougher next season.

TSS looked great V GT and nearly had me convinced they had moved to the top of the pack, but a loss to NC (by 3) to go with the (understrength) loss to BBC took some gloss off their season – TSS win the 16’s nearly every year and I won’t be losing my hard earned betting against them in 2017. The final question of the season revolves around NC, a great season no doubt, BUT they got GT on a week with no training and immersion omissions, they scrapped home against TSS and beat BBC in a miracle finish – ‘good luck or great team??’ only 2017 can answer that.

14’s
BSHS confirmed their dominance for this season and deservedly sit alone at the top of the ladder, but must surely be thinking they’ll need a new game plan for next season as the challenges keep rising from all corners of the South East. They got out of jail in round 1 V GT, were held to a draw by TGS (during the Rep League round), found it hard going to defeat IGS on the scoreboard and proved a little too big and fast for BBC. BBC thought they had closed the gap on second only to suffer a 22 point loss to IGS in the final round, but they made easier work of GT than either IGS or BSHS were able to manage and as such I have them winning the lot next season, aided by GTs immersions issues.

GT played some amazing footy this season but lacked the depth of the big 3, at full strength in the first game of the season they probably worried BSHS more than any other side including TGS. TGS are very much in the mix here and like GT probably suffer more from depth than class issues. NC got better as the season wore on and could worry the top 4 by seasons end next year.

13’s
IGS remained undefeated but it must be noted they fell over the line against GT and NC pushed them all the way to the finish line. IGS are big and fast but to my eye really overplayed their incredibly talented back 5 who simply dominated everyone physically – They will need to improve their play across the park if they want to win out again in 2017. GT will probably feel they should have beaten IGS but then found NC too strong on the final weekend, if you stop their 13 from scoring (easier said than done) you can cause them plenty of problems. Unbeaten in the B’s and C’s GT certainly have the depth to go on with it.

NC quietly put together a terrific season going down by 2 to IGS and then gave GT a pretty handy beating in round 9, beat BBC and thumped ACGS cementing the No 2 spot on the ladder.

BBC have some really good players but lacked direction particularity in the backs and the depth required to challenge IGS, NC or GT but they were competitive and will get better. ACGS is a team I really like, they lack the size and raw athletes of the top 4, but their forwards are tough, aggressive and great on the ball – they will remain firmly on my watch list for 2017.

What a great season, to me it is notable that 'that the more things change the more they stay the same' with NC putting together better seasons in the 13's (No 2), and 15's (1st) than most were expecting, as well finishing the 16 a's on fire and probably beat the spread in the 14's as well.

Yes BSHS will not just need a new game plan, they might need new players. They only best GT in round one by reverting to 10 man rugby and going up the middle where their size got the results. That won't be easy to do next year, and I fear the boys in the team will struggle if they have to move the ball more.

I doubt NC will trouble anyone, from what I heard GT absolutely smashed them in the final round, NC too had to revert to pick and go up the middle to get anywhere. I wonder what the GT v BBC game would have been if GT had depth or were at full strength.

BBC disappointed in the final round against IGS, I would think they'd be upset about that. They have a decent side, could do very well next year, it all depends on how kids grow and develop in the off-season. They did lack a bit of size BBC.

TGS is the team to watch for sure. I thought they had plenty of talent and were held back by an ordinary game plan that didn't use those outside backs of theirs too much.

Nudgee did not get smashed by Terrace. They were beaten because of hopeless goal kicking. He missed six shots at goal. NC 3 tries. GT 3 tries
Will be competitive next year. Do not write them off.
My favourites for 2017 are TSS. Based on 7 of 2016 FirstXV returning and strong 16A this year.

We experienced similar poor post-match function behaviour from our BBC counterparts. $/scholarships certainly doesn't buy manners or respect it seems. Smarten up BBC coaches, staff and parents!

Always biased by the teams you see the most but

Will Eadie did things I have never seen wingers do at this level.

The two games he struggled in BSHS (hands and opportunities in the wet) and TGS (Bounce of the ball and poor tactics) were not surprisingly the games GT lost.

I really liked the BSHS 9 and think he was BSHS MVP

BBC's Ikatu was outstanding probably along with Eadie the most advanced of 2016 cohort.

From a purely GT standpoint Lucas and Wilson had some quite sensational games and Harry Birgin was very consistent and made a lot of impact plays.

I think we're talking about different games, GT won 45-17, that is a smashing.

Taipan,

Are you talking 1st XV or U/14? While I like your choice of favourites for 2017 (1st XV), don't let your bias reflect your version of the game. It annoys me that people blame goalkicking etc for the loss. Did GT miss any kicks? Kicking is part of the game

Watch the YouTube video of GT v NC FirstXV match and tell me if Nudgee goal kicker did not cost them the game.

This may be better suited to a GPS 2017 thread when it starts, but below is what I think might be the yr11 16 or 17 yr olds that played firsts this year and would assume will push for selection next year. Did I miss anyone?

ACGS

Tom Hughes
Fin Hume

Think you can add these players to ACGS

JP Tominiko
Jack Slack
Jimmy Archer
Tristan Stanghon

Plus a few U16 and U15 who ran on this year.
