Esteemed (for the most part ) Rugby Enthusiasts,

It is with a heavy heart and a limp hand that I type this message to you all. I have been quietly observing the discussions on this year's GPS forum, content to take a more reserved, hands-off role. However, the recent turn of events has left me no choice but to speak up.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

The behaviour I have witnessed - particularly the blatant impersonation - is both disgraceful and deeply disappointing. To the individual operating under the moniker "Game Played in Heaven", I say this plainly: you are a charlatan and a mockery of everything this forum has stood for over the years. It's got me reminiscing on that fateful day last year, "D" Day, where schoolboys thought it would be funny to water-hose this forum. It's not.

Cyclopath, I demand action. Game Played in Heaven has repeatedly violated the spirit and integrity of this community, making a mockery of me and what I stand for. For the sake of respect and MY love of the game, I demand that this individual be permanently removed from the forum.

This forum was built on mutual respect, informed discourse, and above all, a love for the game. Let us not tarnish.

Sincerely,
RC

You don't get to demand Cyclopath to do anything, Frank.

Great predictions JJ. I would agree with a lot of your standout players but here is my predictions with a few adjustments.

1. TSS (Uys)
2. NC (Raulini, Armistead)
3. IGS (Gray)
4. BGS (Vevesi, Breen)
5. ACGS (Pritchard, Austin)
6. GT (Nasser)
7. TGS (Rosemond)
8. BSHS (??)

T.B
Unfortunately for IGS Gray has left and gone to Wavell

They do have some strike power with the likes of Hemi Rakuita (Reds u16s, AU u16s) but I think they will struggle this year with some key players such as Calleja suffering some big injuries during pre season.

You see BGS making this big of a turnaround, after not winning a game in approximately 1,000 days (Off memory August 2022)? It is possible. However, I think there is at least 5 years until Grammar hold their heads high with a top end position in the ladder.
Agree mate,

Thats my dark horse for this season - I'm backing a turnaround in their rugby program this year. Not to argue, but in 2012 the formers all said the same - Grammar's got no chance. But I think we learned from that year you can't write them off. Just my opinion.

Gee what a shame Gray has gone to Wavell. He had great potential in the firsts.

With Ipswich Grammar School (I), and St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace (GT) travelling to the land of airplanes (Northgate) to play a round robin… What are everyone’s predictions?

Mine are as follows
I vs GT (I + 5)
I vs BGS (I + 10) - However I could see a reality where BGS pull of the upset.
BGS vs GT (GT + 7)

However, these games could go either way… Let me know what you think.
Get ready for a day of the deadest grounds in the GPS if you're heading out.

Dear RC,

I read your message with a heavy heart.

Let me first say, I hold you in the highest regard. You have long been a pillar of this great sport: principled, passionate, and unwavering in your dedication to the game and its values. You’re someone I’ve always looked up to not just for your insights, but for your leadership, your community spirit, and your kindness. I make reference especially to your financing of the beautiful commemorative flower garden at the BGS Playing Fields of Northgate. It stands as a living testament to your generosity and vision.

With that said, I want to speak honestly and with the utmost respect.

The Game Played in Heaven — I chose this name as it nods to the poetic, perhaps even a bit cheeky side of the man we all love. I have never once acted with malice, disrespect, or mockery in mind. On the contrary — I have done my best to contribute positively and uplift others in this forum. My posts have aimed to build camaraderie, celebrate talent, and reflect the same deep love of the game that I know drives you.

If any line has been crossed or any misunderstanding caused offense, I offer my sincerest apologies. That was never the intention.

But if being warm, supportive, and enthusiastic about rugby and this great community is something to be condemned, then perhaps I’ve misread the tone. And perhaps, respectfully, you are not quite the man I thought you were. Because the man I looked up to would see that unity and encouragement are not threats, but the very spirit of this sport.

I don’t want this forum to be divided. I want to learn from you, laugh with others, and share in the beautiful chaos that is GPS Rugby. If there’s still room for peace, I’m offering it here.

With respect,
The Game Played in Heaven

Sorry, but I don't see Ipswich getting the win this week over Terrace. Without the likes of Gray (now at Wavell), the team really struggling to find a presence to lead the boys. Terrace is coming into this 2025 season with a lot of boys having solid firsts experience with the likes of George Hales. Just my thoughts, surefire win for Terrace.

THIS IS WHY I LOVE SCHOOLBOY FOOTY!!!

At the end of the day, anyone can pull off an upset, and anyone can bring home the choccies. I honestly can’t see a clear favourite this year. There’s no team that looks miles ahead of the rest every side has the talent, the size, and that gritty, dirty edge needed to win this comp. It’s going to come down to who wants it more.

From what I’ve seen so far in the trials, this year’s Grammar side is not the rollover-after-20-mins team we saw in 2023 or even 2024. They’ve kept a strong core, they look fit, and most importantly they look like a team that believes they can win.

But the thing is you could say that about almost every side this year. Apart from BSHS (who are struggling a bit), no one is lagging across the board. Every team has something to offer. That’s the beauty of GPS rugby it’s unpredictable, it’s emotional, and it’s raw. That’s why you can’t write anyone off before Round 1.

If Grammar start the season well, I reckon they could finish in a very respectable spot. Their trials this weekend are seriously intriguing, and I might just have to make the pilgrimage to Northgate to see how they go against GT and IGS.

I. AM. SO. KEEN.

Cheers, D.B

With the backline Ipswich have I see them getting the win in the trial, yet, I see Terrace turning this around come round 1 in the actual season…

Agreed ATA, A birdy told me that the portable stands are gonna be placed on the far side of the field like the tennyson ground to increase the much needed atmosphere, also believe an old boys round could be on the cards back at the spring hill campus which would be a cracker.
Please tell me this chatter about a Spring Hill game has some truth to it!!

I watched Grammar play Shirley on R.A. Henderson and it was honestly such a sight. There’s something special about footy on that ground proper heritage, proper atmosphere. Got me thinking... what would it look like with a bumper Old Boy and schoolboy crowd? I genuinely reckon they could pull around 1–2k if they marketed it right. And if they did with home games this year against BBC, NC, GT, and ACGS that crowd could seriously become a weapon. That kind of atmosphere, echoing around the hill and through the old buildings, would be an absolute nightmare for visiting teams.

It’s made me realise just how much of an asset Grammar actually has with that school ground. They don’t use it enough but when they do, it’s electric. Would love to see them lean into it more. Home ground advantage means something, especially in schoolboy rugby. Just a thought but one I reckon’s worth backing.

Cheers, D.B

Yeah mate,

A game there would genuinely be one of a kind in the GPS. Keen to see if they utilize it this season. I remember back in the day, I used to hear tales of the infamous 1st XV vs 2nd XV game on the Friday afternoon. All the boys would line the balconies after school and support. Truly was school culture at its finest. Good memories

Sometimes in school boy footy and all footy for that matter, some players need to play in different position to benefit the team. In this case Kefu must be able to play to play 10 reasonably well and harry sounds more than ready to slot into that 9 position. Interesting to see how this one pans out.
Cheers
Kef hasnt played 10 since Under 12s. Different pass, different kick and different game for the two positions. Munro has set the world on fire at training. Coach Leo is compromising position specific kids for better players. And look at his selection as Reds Under 18 coach. Was it 9 BBC boys ? He picked Kefu over Alfie (Australian schoolboy) and is now picking Munro over Kefu ? Kiama is one of the better players but there is already internal argument with coaching staff as to why they experimented with him at 12 instead of 8. He has been ineffective to date. Lucas Burrows of TGS shut him and played all over him two weeks ago. Now we see one of the best ball runners in the comp Jonah Wilde playing 15 when he isn't quick enough and cant kick well enough. He is a natural 12. But Leo making sacrifices to get the kids he prefers on the paddock. Nat Barnett one of the most aggressive 15's around will be put on wing.

Good Morning fellow forum members, here are my predictions for this upcoming weekend of trials.

BGS - 17 v GT - 14
BGS - 12 V IGS - 10
GT - 19 V IGS - 5
These games should be interesting, late game i believe kicking off around 4PM i think BGS are the favorites for this three way. The BGS v GT game will be very competitive as they are both looking good going into this game. I believe BGS number 10, will not be in this game as i have heard he sustained a serious neck injury (prayers for the young boy). But Eljiah Breen and Nissi will steer his troops to the win in this. IGS don't stand a chance i believe against these 2 solid teams.

TSS - 10 v BBC - 19
BBC should win this game with ease if they are playing a full side. Although TSS has a strong team, i think BBC has done more and knows how to utilize their strong backs. This game won't be won through the middle, it will be in the backs where there is a clear difference in skill.

ACGS - 5 v NC - 28
Nudgee have an extraordinary side they will easily win against churchie

TGS - 10 v BSHS 12
I don't know much about these teams but i think state high will come away with the win. I have seen them play a few trials and look like a well rounded team.

Cheers,
D.F
I do not see Statey going up the ranges and taking the win, TGS by 20

Cheers, D.B

Yeah mate, some good ideas there. I would happen to agree with that assertion, but would like to present my own idea.

I think ACGS have the potential to put up an electric 9-15 this year. With Austin in control with plenty of first XV and rep experience, I have no doubt he will step up this year. In addition Treyvon Pritchard is one of the talents of the GPS. Before injury last year, he was literally tearing up backlines, and lining up at 12 so far I think he will be taking on the line every play and doing some serious damage. Correct me if I'm wrong, but will Underwood be lining up at 15 this year? Nevertheless, with that spine and players of impact I believe they have potential to be a great backline.

T.B
Hey TB, Definitely, plenty of talent and potential in there. Will be good to see how they go this weekend with a big matchup against Nudgee

Hey lads, who are the biggest carriers in the comp? I’m talkin’ blokes running like a freight train with a grudge, no brakes, and an orphanage dead ahead—no passengers, just problems.

I really liked what I saw from BGS’s No. 8 (or 6) last year Dyer Akauola. From what I’ve heard, he’s returning for his Year 12 season, and I’m keen to see what he delivers. Even in a struggling Grammar side, he stood out week after week physical, aggressive, and never stopped working. He brought real presence to that forward pack. If he can back up those performances from last year and take another step, I reckon he could be a big part of pushing BGS up the ladder in 2025. One to watch for sure.

Cheers, DB

Dyer and Nissi will be a devestating combo - wouldn't want to be on the defensive end against them...
