Agree, we sure going to find out if TGS are contenders this year! With Keegan and Rapeni back to bolster the pack they should have more grunt up front. Interested to see if any other changes will be made to the starting line up? Word around the traps there might be a few out after a very physical game against BBC.
Ethan Ramsay took a little knock but he should still be right for Terrace this weekend, below is my predicted lineup for this weekend against Terrace:

  1. Harrison Humphreys
  2. Ruben Kruger
  3. James Tulikaki
  4. Craig Thaggard
  5. Rupeni Baravilala (c)
  6. Ethan Ramsey
  7. Keegan Cook
  8. Rhymen Tuilagi-Tusi
  9. Sam Elms
  10. Cooper Brown
  11. Adam Davis
  12. Luke Burrow
  13. Petelo Maka
  14. Isiah Wuruki
  15. Myles Rosemond

Let’s be honest the QLD GPS rugby is on a serious glow up. Year after year it’s getting better, flashier, and more hyped than ever. Slowly but surely, it’s morphing into a bigger, better, and more marketable beast than the NSW AAGPS. Give it five years and I dare say QLD will leave NSW in the dust.

Sure, NSW has traditionally had slightly stronger players but let’s not forget they’re being slowly swallowed by league focused schools who’d rather kick a Steeden than a Gilbert. And let’s talk about recruitment, this year alone a couple of key 1st XV and 16A's palyers in QLD actually got their start at a NSW AAGPS school.

But where QLD truly wipes the floor? Atmosphere. Culture. School pride. When it comes to passion, NSW just can’t compete. Schools like NC, GT, ACGS, and even BBC put on a show like no other. THE QLD GPS brings the thunder. And let’s be real if school spirit were a try, QLD’s already converted it and kicked the goal from the sideline with the wind against it.

Now respectfully if there were a game between the best of QLD GPS and the best of NSW AAGPS, it’d be a 50/50 matchup. We’re talking about elite talent from both sides, not some random trial game.

N.K.
What other schoolboys have headed down south? The only one I know of is Agapetos Lote-Felo

Not brothers no relation at all, this week it’ll be Sam Elms at 9 and Cooper Brown will remain at 10.
Yeah OK - thanks for the clarification. I was wondering about Sam Elms as I thought he played a quite few games in 1st’s last year for TGS

TGS at full strength then? Can’t see many changes to that starting line up. Interesting to see how James goes with Humphreys at loosehead. Should be a good contest against the likes of holyman and co.

BGS had plenty out as well, 4 boys out for Met North League and 3 out for Met North Union so under strengthed as well. Plenty of the Grammar 1xv regulars were also rested to give way for some 2xv boys to have a crack.
Yeah, fair point plenty missing on both sides. But watching from the sidelines, it was actually pretty encouraging to see some grit from the BGS lads, especially those coming up from the 2nds and 3rds.

Angus “Fidggo” Watts added some real mongrel in the engine room, and Harry “Hanga” Langdon brought a bit of sharpness out wide. Both from the 3rds, too says something about the depth starting to come through. They didn’t just hold their own either, went up against some quality reserves and even a few firsts from IGS and BSHS and looked right at home.

As someone who’s watched BGS rugby cop a few hidings over the years, it’s good to see a bit of fight again. Still early days, and they’ve got a long way to go, but if this is the kind of depth they’re building, there might actually be something brewing.

Wouldn’t get carried away just yet as grammar is yet to face the big dogs, but a couple of trial wins under the belt and a full-strength side, We might just get to see the light at the end of this really long tunnel this year.

Cheers, D.B

The BGS front row has had a major upgrade from what I've read on this forum. I'm keen to see how they go against BBC's Ryan Tattum this weekend.

Terrace lineouts improved at the end with the reserves on - Jackson throwing to Grice. With Clancy available this weekend, it may be that the incumbent lock Devine along with the new signing Hawke may end up back in the seconds as they won’t tolerate another year of losing so many attacking lineouts.
Yes I can’t wait to see what Clancy brings to both the lineouts and the overall impact of the GT scrum. Speaking of Clancys at terrace I’m not sure if there is any relation but I think there is a Clancy in the 15s who goes pretty well. One of my mates used to coach a Clancy a couple years back and he said he was a workhorse. I assume it was the one in the firsts but I could be mistaken.

I also saw in a post from a forumer a few weeks back that the u15s Clancy has been vital in their successful outcomes and it will be interesting to see how the youngster holds up against nudgee in round 9 (presumably both undefeated teams by this time). There will be many people down on the flats watching these future first 15 players from both GT and NC have a crack at each other

Yes FFF you're right, the round 9 fixture will be very exciting to watch as NC take on GT. As you said, I assume there will be some grand finals through the younger age groups in that week. With titles on the line and the great rivalry, this will be great viewing. Would love to get down there and watch.

With powerhouse NC and GT squads in both the 16A's and 15A's, The 13th of September is shaping up to be less of a game and more of a blockbuster.

Excited Regards, N.K.

Anyone changing their ladder predictions after the weekends trials? Interesting to see if anyone has had a change of opinion.

Nah mate solid from my end, heres a refresher:
1st - NC
2nd - BBC
3rd - TGS
4th - TSS
5th - GT
6th - IGS
7th - ACGS
8th - BSHS
9th - BGS

To be honest, I don’t lose sleep over the bottom four. My eyes are on the top, where 2nd to 4th could go full musical chairs. NC, of course, will take 1st - no debate there. But as for 5th… I reckon Terrace will cook up some tikka, maybe even turn up the heat this year. But in true GT tradition, they’ll probably serve it hot and still fall just short, like they’ve been doing for the past 10 years.

Yes full strength TGS this weekend, i think we all saw on the weekend TGSs scrum dominated BBC, even tho BBC were much bigger, now add 6ft3 130kg James Tulikaki in at that tighthead role and that scrum looks unreal. With tusi, tulikaki, thaggard and rupeni all carrying the footy this weekend, Terrace should be wary.

Anyone care to make some predictions about who the 5 best players this season will be?

For me I'd imagine you could lock in Kingsley Uys, and I'd also be putting Tai Taka from BBC, still an under 17, to be in the best 5 players, absolutely tore up for the reds a few weeks ago.

Any thoughts on who else could be put forward for this list?

Hey mate, a lot of strong names this year but the top 5 for me are

1. Kingsley Uys - TSS
2. Tai Taka - BBC
3. Elijah Breen - BGS
4. Isaac Tuala - NC
5. Dyer Akauola - BGS

All five have already shown they can dominate games individually, and most have either already made rep teams or are on the radar. Uys is a powerhouse up front, Tai Taka’s footwork and decision making at such a young age are next level, and Breen is steering the BGS ship with calm composure. Tuala’s been a rock for Nudgee, tough in contact, calm under pressure, and leads from the front. while Akauola looks like a real game changer he’s physical, quick, and reads the game smartly.

Would love to hear if anyone’s got eyes on any dark horses or breakout players from the likes of Terrace, TGS, or Churchie. Keen to see how the rest of the season plays out!

Ollie Nasser has to be up there, arguably one of the best players last year in year 11, I think both him and the men in red and black are up for a big year.

Pretty sure Grey has departed Ipswich and is now at Wavell

Hey fudgey,

I agree with this list; Kingsley Uys is going to be very powerful this year, but I believe that Elijah "Breathtaking" Breen and Dyer "Sole Toko Uso" Akauola, both from BGS, are going to be very powerful driving forces in grammar's rugby season. Can I get a second opinion on this?
