QLD GPS 2025

Greetings gentlemen, as I have a quick coffee break, does anyone have any predictions for this weekend's fixtures? Sadly, couldn't make the trek to Brisbane to watch any games but looking through the results it looked like a great day of rugby. Some great games lined up with Ipswich vs TSS, BSHS vs Churchie, a 3 way between Nudgee, BBC and Brisbane Grammar and GT vs TGS.
Do we know how long each 3 way match will go for, and if they will keep the same teams for both? If they change, I assume they will play their seconds squad against Grammar.

On another note, I see scores finally on RE for last weekends 3-way. Assuming BSHS had a heap of players tied up with the Met East league??

With State of Origin tomorrow night, which former/current origin players from the GPS were the best at schoolboy level?

I immediately think Kalyn Ponga (ACGS, 2016) is the best, but I'm looking forward to seeing Rob Toia (NC, 2022) make his debut.

Which other origin players have formerly partaken in the GPS First XV?

ATA
Ponga was definitely excellent but only got to play in grade 11 before being shipped back to Townsville. I think both Izzy Perese and Jaydn Su'a outshone him in that Churchie side for most games. Ponga would've been truly frightening if he got the extra year. Tabuai-Fidow was incredible. Not playing Origin this game, but Dane Gagai was also excellent at schoolboy level.

Apparently Karmichael Hunt was genuinely freakish. Not that long after him Quade and Pocock came through and literally destroyed all the best teams of their era but Churchie aficionados I have known said Hunt was clearly the best they saw.

sorry to change topic but I was quite impressed to see George Hales astonishing cross field kick to get the GT fellas back in the game on the weekend. Just shows the professionalism of this player and definitely one to look out for in 2025.

Does anyone know where I can watch the Churchie v Terrace game from the weekend, wasn't able to make it as the stepson had soccer out at Toowong. Cheers TMM

The Hub mate

Nah not that hub you cheeky bastard, get your head out of the gutter! My son, who had the absolute privilege of repping the NC 1st XV, kept yabbering on about the Hub with his mates. So, naturally, I did what every responsible parent does and had the classic birds and bees chat. Yep, even though the lad had a girlfriend at the time.

I laid it all out and he just looked me dead in the eye and said “Dad The Hub is where I get all my game footage.” Phew! Crisis averted. Turns out, it’s run by none other than DoubleTakeSports, so basically, the schoolboy footy gods themselves.

So yeah, no funny business... just pure footy magic.

P.S. I belive you need access via the school to view their stuff

Nudgee will pump BBC.
TGS should beat Terrace comfortably.

I think Nudgee stick to their game plan so well, and I don’t think BBC will be able to break through. Nudgee are do disciplined in the way they play and I think the NC backs will run rings around BBC. Young Billy Spicer and Eli Rauluni look so comfortable playing first XV despite the face their only 16. The nudgee forward pack will be hard to face with the likes of Rauluni, Armistead, Bradford and Teina Graham. BBC scrum I think has no chance against Nudgees well drilled forwards. Curtis Lambert at fullback was good to watch on the weekend and linked well with Meritz, the chemistry the Nudgee side has will overpower BBC’s brute force.

TGS put up a good fight against BBC who were full strength compared to a TGS side that was far from full strength. I think TGS this week are gonna have a lot of grunt in the forwards with Tusi, Peni, Thaggard and Tulikaki all in that forward pack. Not to mention with the loss of Poese the Terrace backline loses a lot of spark, compared to the TGS backline of Rosemond, Davis, Wuruki and new import Petelo Maka. Petelo played his first GPS trial match against arguably the best centre pairing of Kiama and Tai Taka and he held strong. So i think TGS have this one comfortably.

Although you make some good points BBC were also missing multiple players and will have more out this week so I don't think your argument makes much sense
BBC Missing
-Oscar Donovan
-Andreas Ayache
-Jonah Wilde
-Ryder Koia
-Nate Barnett (2nds, first game back from injury)

I Just doesn't really make much sense for you to call them a full strength BBC side when there missing 5 of their most influential players who all started games for them last year.

My bad not a full strength BBC however Ryder Koia played and Jonah Wilde was on the bench. Oscar and Andreas missed out which is obviously a big loss but the other boys just don’t make sense, Nate Barnett was also on the bench.

I've heard the same about Hunt.
I mean if we go way back we are talking about Wally Lewis, Peter Jackson, the Walters brothers but doubt many people saw them play schoolboys or if they did the memories would be pretty faded. I did get to see Mat Rogers play as a schoolboy, and he was certainly a freak too.

Couldn’t agree more with you there T.H. Nudgee vs BBC is shaping up to be the game to watch this week.

Agreed mate, the 16's are Freakishly good, like borderline illegal. The fact they’ve got another three years in the system should honestly come with a warning label. Might as well hand them the 1st XV trophy now and save everyone the trouble.

And don't get me started on Archie and Curtis, it's like telepathy out there. I've heard whispers they’re both boarding prefects, which probably explains the mind meld levels of connection. Either that or they’ve been secretly running set plays in the dorms after lights out, which I wouldn't put past them.

But wait, it gets better.

Word on the street is the 3rds and 4ths are taking on the old foe GT this weekend too, so the rivalry's alive and kicking. Apparently, Nudgee's been working on their depth behind closed doors and I’ve heard the 4ths pack is scrummaging like they’ve been raised in a cattle yard.

Honestly with all that on this weekend, Origin on Wednesday might be the warm up act. Set the 2-min timer for your popcorn lads.

Fair enough, you've got a solid injury list there I'll give you that. But according to my son, those boys were all passengers anyway (especially Nate Barnett)… so nothing for Nudgee to be losing sleep over.

Let's be real even at "half strength," BBC looked like they were still finding their feet. Meanwhile Nudgee's 2nds & 3rds were out there looking like they'd been drafted by the Crusaders. If that's not worrying, I don't know what is.

But hey let's see what happens this weekend. If BBC's stars are back, maybe we'll get a proper contest. Or maybe the NC freight train will just keep rolling.
