2 weeks in a row you have said exactly the same thing... time for some new material buddy

In fairness, the same thing happened two weeks in a row. And some other people around here are definitely more in need of the 'new material' call

I guess im just confused as to what point in history Tom Carter 'trademarked' the strong running and hard tackling inside center profile...

Pat McCabe has had two fantastic seasons for the brumbies in a fair few different positions. He is only 23 while Tom Carter is 28. In my opinion McCabe has more potential, I mean come on he has only played 4 or so games at inside centre, how many games has Carter played there? He seems more disciplined for mine as well and plays with a lot of heart. Just my opinion.

Beale, Cooper and McCabe all played in the same Australia Under 20's team. McCabe even filled in for Cooper and Beale at 5/8 when they were both injured so im not actually that surprised to see him slotting in really well with these guys. I think Genia was in that team also, but not 100% sure.

Having just watched the video the stats that you have provided are a bit misleading. Of his 14 runs I saw maybe 3 of them made it past the gain line. That is he moved the ball further up the field than where the last ruck was, as opposed to the advantage line that is halfway between the defence and attack, and it was only a matter of meters past this line. I would want a player of McCabe's style to be making at least one clear linebreak a half but he made none. Also his needs to improve his work at the breakdown. A couple of times I think he could have been penalised for going off his feet.

On a positive note I didn't notice some of the passes he made during the game and I can see some potential in him.

I thought McCabe was better last night. He actually made the gain line quite a few times. I can't recall any clean breaks but he got the team going forward. Happy for the Wallabies to keep trying him there.

I though Pat went well last night, and proved that he is more than McCable to be the Wallabies 12. The combination of AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and McCable outside of Genia and Cooper is new, and for a first hit out in anger, worked bloody well. I would be more than happy for last nights backline to be the one we take to the RWC. I think Mitchell will struggle to get in the 22, as we don't need a specialist winger on the bench. Hard call, but, barring injury, the backline looks set.

Quote from Robbie in SMH today re McCabe last night:

"''I thought Pat did very a good job, he carried very well,'' Wallabies coach Robbie Deans said. ''It's what you've got to do against these blokes, dent the line.
''He also defended very well .. he was the first bloke back when they breached the line on more than one occasion.''

I think if he plays well against the All Blacks and holds his own against Nonu, the 12 jumper is his for the World Cup. If so, he would have deserved it. It's tough luck for Barnes and Horne, but such is life.

He made two great tackles in the first half that directly led to turnovers when the Boks were on attack in our half... very nice to watch...

Thought McCabe had a good game v saffers, however the return of schmoo - which looks on the cards prior to the RWC is going to cause some issues.
Which winger do you leave out - diggers? Oconnor? Both need to be on the field as much as possible. Mitchell was in smoking form in the super 15 so should be starting as well.
To have all three on the field means OConnor at 12 or diggers at 13.
OConnor is a better prospect at 12 than diggers at 13 which leaves McCabe on the bench.
Or am I missing something...

It's a nice problem to have, but I'm sure they'll wait and see how Mitchell pulls up.

He might return pre-RWC, but he still might not recover 100% and could find himself on the bench, particularly if the current backline settles in.

You can't leave out JOC (James O'Connor) as he's our #1 goal kicker, but I'm unsure if Deans will shift him inside?

And there's no chance that Ioane will get dropped to the bench.

Quite a conundrum...

You know, I'm not so sure that Spiro was crazy when he mentioned something about playing Beale at 13 last year. He does well in contact, offloads well.

Think I'd rather see diggers at 13 than beale - but would prefer neither. Still hoping AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) will hit his straps.
If Deans doesn't use OConnor at 12 (and I agree it doesnt look like he will) then there will be some seriously good firepower wasted on the bench if schmoo comes back and regains his super 15 form.

Beale needs to be used in space, or at the least have an opportunity to create something and distribute

It is not impossible for centres to be given space to work with, especially with such a talented 9/10 combination.
