Did the No4 have the ball, I have to compare it to a game New v Shore in the 2nds and figure out whether it was because the #10 for New 2nds didn't have the ball or didn't break his nose, that the referee didn't even give a penalty.

For which I thought the only debate should have been whether it was a red or a yellow card.

Not only didn't he give a card or even a penalty - he spent about 30 seconds lecturing the offending Shore player and then promptly awarded a scrum to Shore!!!?? Maybe the New player being speared into the ground was disoriented by being upside down and knocked on??? Who knows - but that whistleblower was rubbish all day!

I try not to be critical of the officials but honestly this is one of the most frustrating aspects of this competition!

Re 16as. Ok . Thought someone might bite on that . You probably right on the second yellow. Re red card. I was too far away to see the punch . But if it happened that decision was most definitely correct

.. However as usual there was a big fracas, and from my experience blokes don't just go and lay a punch on someone, without provocation

But either way I was no where close, so again i cant disagree poor discipline

Anyway, highlight was definitely that joeys inside back in blue stack hat .still not clear on who he was. King didn't seem that amazing . More impressed with joeys pack, and didn't see finanne . Although that might just be my eyesight

Fair calls on the second yellow and red. Can't recall first yellow (but sure he was doing it all day ref).

Finnane and Simpson injured; King rolled ankle in first half and was replaced. Mat Psaltsis was inside centre with blue headgear. Strong player. No love lost between teams that is for sure.

Did d grant play? Going by the number of quality year 11 kids, and that 16as fixture, reckon next year is going to be a great year for gps rugby ... And think joeys will be good chance to add to their trophy cabinet

Final score IS Scots 27 to Grammar 17. Could have been anyone's game at halftime. One card definitely warranted, although not sure of a couple of others. Disappointed to see a Boy kick one of the Scots players after he scored a try. Thought a card would have been appropriate rather than a warning.
Don't be so disappointed: that's not what happened, as I saw it.
Given the ref's itchy trigger finger (yellows for repeated infringements without a warning? was the Scot's captain sent for chat during the cautioning and carding of another player?) if he had seen it that way you would have got your hoped for extra card.
The kid seemed to me to misjudge an attempt to jump over the try scorer.

^^^ Did my bit for the Ponies tilt at Soup glory, and also penance for the Wobs not showing up to play in the 3rd test in the B&I Lions Test. Time to more on.:)

Saw a penalty given today against a halfback of the side not throwing in a ball to a lineout for yelling at the player throwing in the ball.
This is a trend in kids' games I have noticed this year. I have seen players from the non throwing team in all forward positions do it.
It is blood ugly.
Any effort of a ref to get rid of it has my full support - but I would have the refs warn each team before each game - as the halfback seemed surprised when he was sanctioned.
I think it can be justified under law 10.4(m) - lets have a campaign to get rid of it from the game ASAP.

There is far too much chatter during most rugby with most players very keen to help "Sir" to manage the game. Funny that they never seem to assist Sir when the forward pass, not straight, or off side is made by one of the players in their team.

The other trend that I am not in favour of is what I call the Public Van Humphries. I am not that naive to believe that colourful language can be eliminated from the game, but I do not like Van Humphries language being yelled out at the top of their voices as "motivational" talk that can be heard from all points around the oval.

If the players feel it necessary to F this and C that, then do it within their huddles, and keep it within earshot of only those in the huddle. They are representing their school, whether they are in the 1st XV or the 13E's.

Add this to the anti sledging campaign as well.

Sorry to report that just this sort of expletive laden "motivational" speech could be heard clearly from the huddle after New conceded a try in the 2nd's today!

As far as the 30 "assistant referees" on the field - to me it's a case of "monkey see - monkey do" ( and I mean no offence to monkeys who may contribute or read these threads! ). Watch any Super Rugby game and see the players all keen to conduct running debates with the refs! Kieran Reid and James Horwill are among the worst but they all do it,

My advice to kids I have coached is that rugby is a game best enjoyed with your mouth shut! Except where appropriate - like "MINE!"! :)

Never had a problem with fruity language in this context but I doubt its effectiveness when used on all occasions.

if he seemed surprised then use the yellow card!

Anybody know who scored the winning try for Scots?

I thought it was Olly Kamp, but the paper had Taylor Deer as the scorer.

Don't trust your eyesight, I gave up on that years ago. And as far as provocation, a couple of years ago New vs SJC had one New player sent off... Before the kick off !!! Apparently he had been " doing it all day" too ;)
