TSC played SJC in 20 games today.

TSC won 3 (1st XV, 13A and 14G's)
SJC won 17

Why did Scots only play 20 games against Joeys when they have 30 teams at Bellevue Hill? Anyone?

Scots 3rd were playing Grammar which means all C & E teams also play Grammar along with the 5ths & 7ths. Same goes for the schools who play High and TAS

Thanks for the update br. Let's hope it's nothing serious. And on the scrum law front, after seeing the scots shore game earlier scrum problems seem to be an issue with the refs, might be worth an info night to bring them all up to date, but it wouldn't be a scots joeys match without a dash of controversy that will get bigger and bigger as the days go on, just like the (slang used by low IQ schoolboys) incident of the mid nineties

I will speak to his father this week and see what he says. He expressed concern at the supper as Andrew looked resigned to an injury spell.

Further news from the afters...

The team looked very roughed up with winger Yassmin also under a cloud too. Mitchell Short's comments too were interesting as he said that "Tavita Makasini (?) was the toughest opponent he has faced this season including nationals. Scots consider him a big threat." Scots coaching staff conceded they must work on the team's one on one defence which Joeys exposed. The longer season may expose a soft underbelly.

Thoughts?

Let's hope it is the only blemish for the boys from the east, well I hope it is. The 9 from scots very quiet today, the 9 from joeys marshalled his troops brilliantly. I think scots needed a reality check after the stellar result last week, joeys nearly doing the goods.

If depth is an issue for sides, scots, joeys and view look to be the only ones with depth, new, shore and kings all struggling in the lower grades and the 2's. Let's hope the boys remain mostly injury free!

Scots do have a habit of popping champagne corks early and hence today were served some reality. As well, they also were exposed in areas other teams have yet to test. I am sure the Newington fan who watched the game near me with his camera would be reporting back to Stanmore with some news. Love this longer season.

Riverview 22 - Kings 10

Frustrating game out at Paramatta for both sides. Drop ball from Kings eventuated in their loss, coupled with a consistently strong attack from the View backs. Kings saw hope late second half where View's 13 Hutchison was binned for a dangerous tackle, putting on a try to make it 17-10. Hutchison made an impact on his return, setting up a try for View to seal the victory at the whistle.

McCalman (8), Ballantyne (6) and Lehmann (5) were the standouts for the Kings side, a pack of dogs in defence, shutting down opposing forward runnings and jumping on the pill for a turnover - in particular captain McCalman. Davies (12) also had a strong game, however was struck with injury in the second half and taken off.

For View - Electric centres Molloy (12) and Hutchison (13) worked wonders in the centres, linking well with Freeman (15) and McKay (11). In the forwards, Hayson (6) was tireless in both attack and defence showcasing his unparalleled match fitness. View captain, Hunt (8), made a strong return, churning through defence with strong ball-runing.

the other joker, the angry ranga, spear tackled the No 4 and broke his nose.

Did the No4 have the ball, I have to compare it to a game New v Shore in the 2nds and figure out whether it was because the #10 for New 2nds didn't have the ball or didn't break his nose, that the referee didn't even give a penalty.

For which I thought the only debate should have been whether it was a red or a yellow card.

I think its fair to say that any team can spring an upset on the day if the more fancied sides are not on their game.......... its a great testament to the quality of the competition...... full marks to Scots though they have beaten all comers at the end of the first round of games and are a very classy side........

The scrum laws are clear.

Law 20.8 Front-row players
Lifting or forcing an opponent up. A front row player must not lift an opponent in the air, or force an opponent upwards out of the scrum, either when the ball is being thrown in or afterwards. This is dangerous play.
Sanction: Penalty kick

In short, Joeys were robbed.

It wasn't a penalty to SJC. Both front rows went up - I have the photo; I was right there.

Whether or not the scrum should have been reset is another matter - but that is not the point you made.

Let's talk about a great game, not the refereeing, which I thought was pretty good.

Wow ... Great rugby on show at h hill. Joeys played amazing and without Hanigan and latrell .. Who disappeared, and seemed to have been a state secret.

Must say tevita, played great at 9, and so now I see why the other 9 has been left in 2s.

Kellaway, seemed to have been well marked, and wasn't the show stopper ...although still "all class". His goal kicking was definitely off. His brother had a good game and popped a great pass to set up one of the tries.

Thought scots super lucky to come away with that. Joeys really good at the breakdown.

As an independent, feel a draw would have been a fair result ... Both teams played great rugby ... And ref did fine job imho

Thought while joeys 1s were unlucky, joeys 16as were lucky, care of all the yellow and red cards. However i would not dispute yellow or red cards, But do note 2 of yellow cards were for tackles that were, in my opinion, a case of a short stocky bloke ploughing into a tall skinny bloke. Certainly the first one was.

Either way high quality game, with 2 standout players being the scots no 8, the ranga. And the joeys inside centre ... Not sure if that is grant or wright?

Does it have to do with injuries to player who was playing another code???
Interesting if true ...Latrell definitely a massive star.
i saw Crichton looking like he is not seriously injured ... Running arround ... So loss of scots five 8, will be offset by returning Crichton, who would have been useful at breakdown today.

So, after dodging a bullet today, scots title is looking likely ... Def needed to fill what is a pretty bare trophy cabinet ... Didn't realise scots title record is so minimal

I reckon if any school wants to win rugby titles, they need to bolster boarding house numbers ... Which is no easy thing, with farming not what it used to be .... Tas going alright , I see

Scots 3rd XV 26(?) SGS 1st XV 15.
4 yellow cards of which 1 seemed justified.
Scots midfield very impressive.

Final score IS Scots 27 to Grammar 17. Could have been anyone's game at halftime. One card definitely warranted, although not sure of a couple of others. Disappointed to see a Boy kick one of the Scots players after he scored a try. Thought a card would have been appropriate rather than a warning.

If better discipline is luck, then I guess we were "lucky". I just think we outplayed Scots. The Joeys boys didn't punch right in front of the ref so that was lucky. All three tries were also lucky. Missing three conversions and a penally was however, unlucky.

Second yellow was No. 8 spearing 4 who is 6'3. Inside centre was Psaltis. Wright flyhalf, King outside centre.

Newington has only lost one game in the 2s, against Joeys, and are coming second if I'm not mistaken, came out on top after a gritty win against shore where they saw little ball and shore failed to capitalise on multiple opportunities. New won it with a superb try to No. 8 Tim Lee off the back of some great play from Lachie Anderson

Re 16as. Ok ... Thought someone might bite on that ... You probably right on the second yellow. Re red card. I was too far away to see the punch ... But if it happened that decision was most definitely correct

.. However as usual there was a big fracas, and from my experience blokes don't just go and lay a punch on someone, without provocation

But either way I was no where close, so again i cant disagree poor discipline

Anyway, highlight was definitely that joeys inside back in blue stack hat ...still not clear on who he was. King didn't seem that amazing ... More impressed with joeys pack, and didn't see finanne ... Although that might just be my eyesight
